Once or twice I've towed someone up a large hill using a couple of innertubes between our bikes. I think uphill is the key to keeping this safe.

I know i've asked this before, but what have you used as a tow cable?

I stumbled across this product, I like the coil idea, but it is stupidly expensive.

I might consider replicating it with some sort of spring loaded reel. Now where can i get a spring loaded real for dirt cheap??

retractable dog leash? lol just what i thought of as i read. cant see the pic on my crap phone.

So, how much weight can a 2.62$ including shipping dog leash hold? Anyone want to take bets?

Maybe I combine 3 of them they would actually hold.

a dog lead should take a fare bit of tension before it snaps... over 100kg easy

the problem with towing is, if it the rope/lead/whatever snaps or comes off, and then gets trapped in your wheel ?

I once got a tow from my nephew once, who was on my ebike with a trailer, I just grabbed onto the trailer and was pulled along... he didn't even know I was there, worked great

tried it a few times using hands/feet/whatever (no trailer)... but it's too hard... you can;t steer and do that at the same time, you either pull the two bikes together or push them apart

maybe the bikes should have a retractable rope/whatever each.... that way if they come apart/get slack they pull in twice as fast, and there;s only half as much to pull in before it gets stuck in your wheel :)

I've thought about trying this while my girlfriend was riding my eBike but decided it was way too dangerous for both riders..

I had imagined a rope or dog leash tied around the seat post of the eBike and the normal bike rider to just hold on to that with 1 hand. Steering / braking is an issue though.

Better have a good motor. I have read many times " I smoked the motor towing guys with skateboards up a hill"

I'd say a larger version of a dog leash would work good for the tow device. If it's taking more than one, have that guy you are towing pedal harder, so you don't smoke your motor.
