TSDZ2 36v Motor 48v Battery

Hey - I have ordered a TSDZ2 36v motor, and am considering getting a 48v battery as that seems better value for money (range vs size vs cost).

I've read that I can install the open source software to allow this to work but I wondered what would happen if I just used it with the stock firmware? Would it work at all? Would it burn up?

The open source software requires some kit like a screen and some stuff to install it so I'd like to do it at a later phase.

Won't work as the initial fully charged voltage exceeds the upper battery limit set in software.

Relatively easy to solve and there's several threads here on ES which tells you how to reset the software limits. We have several running on standard software but with the upper limit set to 53 volts and they are a really nice mod with the cadence pushed up into the 90's and plenty enough juice for most applications. many of us run on 52 volt batteries and even better.

Thinking back a bit, you can charge your battery to about 90% and it will run OK but the battery display will be wrong.

The controller is limited to the motor voltage, so the advice of Waynemarlow is the easiest way to try

For changing the stock firmware to handle a higher Voltage you can edit some bites, or flash modified stock firmware
Here you can find how to do that.
The minimum hardware you need is a ST link V2.
If you have such a ST link V2 it is also possible to flash OSF for stock displays.
In that case you don't need another display/screen,you don't need to fiddle with cables and your hardware costs are minimal.
Only minor point is that you can't flash the latest version of OSF.
