TSDZ2b - controller failure?

So, I've got a TSDZ2b motor installed on my electric trike. Worked fine Wednesday.

Today, took it in to the shop to have them try helping me with a bit of hardware (I've got a bearing that needs replacement), and so I took out the batteries and brought it in; when I got it home, I put the batteries back in and powered it on.

It's running OSF, with a VLCD5 display (yep, stock display, haven't changed it yet), and it's set to display the current battery voltage at power on - usually, it'll power up, briefly show "53.0" or "54.2" (maybe "55.4" or the like if I've just pulled it off the charger - LFP, not NMC), show a semi-accurate battery meter, then drop to zero. At present, it's powering on - the display turns on, the other hardware on the bike (the lights and dashcam unit) power up off of the 12V buck converter attached to the battery, which all suggests to me that the battery is fine, maybe needing a charge, but the controller seems to be doing nothing: it's not reporting rotation counts to the display - speedometer reports 0 constantly, it's not accepting inputs from the throttle or pedals, and it's basically behaving like a lump.

Any troubleshooting steps? I can always reflash it, both to another build of OSF and back to stock, assuming the controller isn't toasted. (If it is, I've ordered another.)
 
OK, what does a VLDC5 show with OSF? It has no brake indicators, but the speedometer should show the back wheel spinning, It should change the mode settings when the up/down buttons are activated. Backlight should come on when the lights button is pressed. It will also display E02 when you do that and cycle thru whatever series of values you chose during setup.

If don't see this, the controller must not be communicating.

Speedometer does nothing, can change mode but no action, no errors. No change when wheel spinning.

The values chosen during setup were battery voltage at power on and lights toggle - the backlight toggles (dunno about whether the headlight toggles - mine is hardwired on) but no voltage is reported.

Oh well, guess it's time to just wait for the new controller to arrive from China.

Edit to add: typically it behaves mostly the way it does stock. The display settings are mostly moot - everything in the display is configured on the motor side, the wheel size option changes the reported speed from the controller.
 
There is one more thing you could try to see if controller is working, Look at the torque sensor output using the VLDC5 hidden menu. Start with display in Trip mode. Both of mine start around 170-175 for re1 or te1, whatever they call it.


It's odd that the tongsheng fails after a trip to the shop with no battery connected. It's worth reseating all the connectors.

I bet it was misbehaving prior to the trip to the shop, but since I didn't check before taking it - had been a few days since it's last ride, but it was working then. 🤷‍♀️
 
I've not had to reprogram mine. Have two on bikes. both with almost 5000 miles, with a spare kit in a box.

My wife's bike has had random issues with throttle taking off. I've changed throttles. Changed the display cradle. On a VLDC5, the cradle splits the 8 pin cable separately to throttle jack, display, plus USB port. Thought I had it fixed, but this week it came back when I powered up her bike. Maybe I've initiated the walk mode, I'll have to check and disable if enabled. That means reprogramming,
