Turnigy HXT Powered Custom Cruiser Worklog

I liked your old built forks Kim, but these new ones  damn those are quality!! Should add some nice billet jaw dropping.

I was actually waiting for you to out some lightening holes on the forks, you know, like the muzzle on an old WW2 gun. I'm beginning to think you have replaced your beavers with trained vipers the way everything has holes in it. IMHO, if you didn't do such a pro job of making sure all the holes a symetrical and centered it would prolly look like an afterthought, but the way you've done it definately adds a level of craftsmanship to b admired. Git er done!!

Yes i agree, they have to be evenly spaced or veeeery close to it or it doesnt look to flash...

I am awaiting my mate to pick me up to gotto the hardware and bicycle
shop so i thought i would up a couple of pics from yesterday/last night while i wait-->

pulley1.jpg

Marking out of the pulley SEE Gary i do mark stuff.....sometimes LoL :p

pulley2.jpg

If you check one of the pics below on the right of shot, you will see a heap of
aluminium shavings, thats ALL from that pulley! I should of weighed it
prior to drilling the thing to see how much it shaved off...

My mate and I slid the forks onto the bike last night too see how much needs
lopping off them, prolly about 3-4 inches will get accurate about it this arvo...
if its not too hot, heres a few 'teaser' shots of how they look on the bike as is...
the springer tube ISNT connected to the rockers...

springer%20fork%20mock%20up.jpg

Notice i have been able to use the bar clamps rather than a traditional stem!!!
the top of the fork tubes have a thread in them! same setup as the threadless
forks use, the thread slides so ill knock it down a little and lop the top off the
fork tubes, no need for re-chroming!! When down the Bar clamps will sit flush
on the top CNC Pr0n plate hehe

Feeling a lil bad i asked Matt to sell them too me now i see them on the
bike, they are just so sexy...then i think about the 1976 Honda 400
hes modding to a cafe' racer (Luke you will frocking LOVE this thing
when hes done ill forward pics to you
) and his new e-mountain bike
build and i dont feel as bad LoL..Cheers Matt..

That's a very nice gesture, and a fairly huge gift considering all the work and money you put into it. I have to say though, it's pretty ironic that you're giving such a meticulously made and good looking craft to a blind man

More holes, excellent

TBH its not that big of a deal too me i haven't got as much money in it as
people may think, the frame is pennies, the rear trike conversion probably the
dearest part of it, the electrics weren't much all cheap scooter gear OH aside from
the Kelly controller, none the less, i wouldn't be rebuilding it if it was for my use
but it will be a HUGE helpt to Rocko..

Got back awhile ago with a 1/2in drill bit to drill the pulley for the output shaft of
the reduction drivefreakin LBS doesnt open till 10am SLACK baaaastards so no
headset grrr.. We got a speeding fine on the way back so a bloody expensive
5km trip 150 bucks and two demerits latter, managed to talk the cop into reducing
the speed we were caught at, there was two wiminez in shortie shorts walking
along the side of the road that distracted us, "likely story guys" he said, i said "true story"
as i pointed behind and said "look..here they come..." well thats the best excuse he
had heard for awhile and knocked 10kms off the ticket for me mate hahaha...Girls
walked by 5 minutes later cops tongues were hanging out hahaha...

OK..so heres a couple of pics of my driveline with NEW belt and NEW pulleys
installed on Mr R's drive unit-->

Pulley&Belt_fitted_series_pics_1.jpg

As can be seen, i still haven't 'recessed' the shock mount so the motor can
be tilted forward to allow necassary clearance of belt from motor, it ever so
slightly touches needs to be moved ~5mm forwward to clear, no biggy fix it
before locktiting and tightening of components. As you can see though Matt.P
absolutely NAILED it working out correct belt size it couldnt be any more perfect for length!!!!

Mate and I were sitting looking at the setup and Flavio says to me, "that motor
will go forward of the shock mount
" i Said "nope...it will hit..." Turns out
it doesn't...This ones for you Luke...-->

4_motor_photochop.jpg

I thinkz im gunna need more batteries Luke BWAHAHAA..Two motors will be
plenty i doubt as, even as nice and strong Mr Rs reduction unit is 4 motors would
be a lil much for it no?

Off to the quacks in 10 minutes so prolly be it for today over 30 (in 90s) this arvo
so toohot to sit in tin workshop for this black duck..

Laterz peepz

Back soon...

KiM

Edit: Soz Hyena...hardened steel sprockets i can't drill em, no lightening holes today :: sigh :: I wont sleep well...

now its time to get the less sexy drive powering that bike :p .

I'll let MicK know he has "sexy legs' then shall I hehehe...Need to keep on the right side of my mate MicK
he's a boxing trainer and not too shabby in the ring himself, very handy person to have next too you
in a brawl lets say LoL...You will no doubt meet him when/if you make
it down OZ in the future though enoob top bloke he is...

Just waiting on Mr GGoodrums lvc boards now and i can fire himz up for an e-ride!

37c (98F) forecast for today & tomorrow so doubtful much will be down over the weekend
cool change forecast for Monday though so first order of business will be too put in a NEW
head tube, YES! I have one for a threadless headset good 'ol Matt has come to the rescue....again
with a schwin stingray frame (albeit chopped to the hilt from pasts projects hehehee) with an
intact head tube!!! -->

file.php

And YES i am seriously considering using the Schwin 'tank/gusset' in a reduced size and angle
on my frame for added strength! Its very think sheet steel so weight will be
a bit of a non-issue ...be all about if it 'looks the goods' to whether it will happen
...

This project would have been alot more difficult if not for without Matt he has been very invaluable in getting components for this build so it can progress ... Along with the frame Matt also bought me up a threadless headset AND a niiiice aluminium stem for the springer i will use!...Cheers for everything mate :D !

Back when i am folkz

 errr it was my wife with the sexy bit . ya thats it i was in the jiffy and she was typing . thats my story and im sticking with it.

i read somewhere that youve never seen snow . :) im an avid sledder (slang for snowmobile enthusiast) and luck would have it i live in a world class sledding area. you can count on me and the family making OZ in the not to distant future and if the bug ever hits you to come north and try out some snow i know id be able to get you out for a blast . check my photobucket album, alot of my shots from the last 2 years in there. im this guy.
SledpicsJan-20-08087.jpg

I put my Giant together without the tank but have since put it on . it grew on me after a while.
i think you would do good to have that piece in there . that top tube is gonna see alot of stress and its making quite the span . plus i kinda like the idea of other old dead choppers getting cannibalized and reborn.

man . you are just flooding me with ideas for when i build up the gumption to build my own frame.

Have a design ready for me too build for our joint project when you come down under too ;)

I could ride one of them snow mobiles no sweat! problem i see is the snow, and hoe cold it is AJ doesn't do cold so good LoL

KiM

spring ride. lots of days when shorts and no sleeves is still to hot. and the bonus is the wiminez looooove you boys from down under. they like sledding to so those out of the way cabins can get fun

hey is vegimite realllllly something you folks eat with any regularity or is it an increadibly long lived hoax pulled on the rest of us ?

as for the frame i build myself i can tell you unless something incredible happens on the ebike market in the next 2 years i want this motor on a frame similar to this (hand operated rear brake  )
https://www.kellycontroller.com/shop/?mod=product&cat_id=51,16&product_id=387
http://www.nirve.com/mens.asp?cat=chopper&cid=580.05

and then i will talk to methods about how to milk a kelly controller to its limit.

Vegemite isn't eaten in Australia, we use it for grease on car axles...

Seriously though, i have vegemite on toast nearly every evening for supper, vegemite
would be as popular here as your maple syrup is in North America enoob...hrmz...IIRC i have had this discussion with FrankG
last maple syrup season i believe, Frank bottles up a heap of maple syrup from his trees on his property

Thats a nice frame i could knock one of them out in under a day if need be, Keep your eyes out for threadless head tubes on old donor bike enoob, one would fit in with your socks in your suitcase and allow th euse of better forks, one thing i havent got is those size head tubes, the motor however  ....we will have a little talk about that in private so not too upset the other frock wearers LMAO... Kelly controllers i have no probs with i used one on the Trike (brushed though)

KiM

:D

my cousin down there still sends me vegimite every so often . still makes me laugh . its good just a running joke between me and him .

the maple syrup is funny . some folks from down south that have only had corn syrup and try maple have a similar reaction to my Vegemite so whattya do :p

i know i know HUB motor  i was gonna remove that disk and mount a sprocket and mount that motor just before the seat tube, after trying to overvolt that meaty lookin thing.

what made me want to try that setup is the slim hope that this controller would not burn it up. i havent really looked at that motor to establish what it may take . ill flush my little experiment out before i go there.

Hey KiM, i've no idea what happened over at ratrods to make you leave,( was too busy building my chopper trike to be reading, and everythings been edited now) but you've made a fan out of me, so I joined up here to see how this awesome build you have going turns out.

Vegemite poisoning.
Wash it down with plenty of cool beer.

I love meat , fish, and fowl.
Vegemite is neither meat ,or fish but to some is rather foul.
Years ago the kids and myself tried some .
They excaimed ,you just got a rotten batch ,Seeing as it came from down under by slow boat from China.
I told them it seems to be fresh, it just tastes that way.

It is an acquired taste that I never acquired.

I checked your build log from the other place.
I will check here spasmodically for news of your build.

Merry Christmas
Stay cool, you are in the dead of summer now .

What the heck am I going to do without the buzz I get from checking this thread each day to see more of your amazing work, Kim?

Hope everything turns out OK, and I really look forward to seeing more progress reports from you on this thread in due course.

Merry Christmas,

Jeremy

Merry Christmas Kim, and good luck with getting the beast on the road.

This will be a duller place while you're gone. :D

I know what happened, Kim was drilling holes in his computer case and accidently hit the phone line and all the internets leaked out
