Hi

Bet you've never seen a hub motor like this before?

I looks like a bruched motor with temperature sensors. but when i connect it to a battery it doesn't move just draws a big current.
so i figured it must be shorted, but how do i open it? there are no bolts to undo?
i tried taking half the spokes off and unscrewing it along the middle seam. I tried stomping on the rim to see if it would pop out.
Nothing.

the small 4 wires do have a resistance between them of 1600 ohms so i think are thermistors.
0 ohms between to big red and black wires.
also my multimeter showed 2v coming from the red/black wires which decays to 0 after a while?

You have to unlace it from the spokes, then separate the two halves of the case. Its press fit together, and its easy to snap a piece of the spoke flange off during trying to yank it apart with a large gear puller or whatever you end up trying.

Also, the controller is in the hub, the smaller plug runs the throttle and display, and the decaying voltage is the capacitors in the controller discharging. So to fix it, you'll prob need either a replacement controller, or hack it to run an external aftermarket controller.

ah found this

thanks ypedal

so those 4 small wires im guessing are for a throttle or PAS?
maybe its working but i just didn't supply the right throttle input to make it spin?

This is a weird bike cos it had a massive controller shapped thing in the frame too.
and one in the motor it seems...

So im guessing red is +5v, yellow is ground, and brown and orange are sense for throttle or pas?

What do you think?

Just remember it's not a brushed motor (I think). So it could still have shorted windings even with resistance, as the meter isn't measuring the windings directly. There could be a lot of stuff keeping it from running going on in there. With brushed you could put power straight to the leads without a controller as a test and it should turn, but with brushless it's not like that. Some systems won't power up without a throttle attached for example but others will, but if there's lots of current when you hook it up, it could be melted or chafed wires shorting together.

This forum has seen lots and lots of them, with at least dozens of posts about them.

Even using the name in your title of Ultramotor (without the space) would find information you could use.

The name on your bike would also find more information you could use.

It requires the specific stuff built into the bike it came from to operate. Looks like an A2B. Lots of threads about those.

If you don't want to use the bike's built-in stuff, you'll have to open the motor and take out the internal controller, then run phase and hall wires out thru the axle in place of the internal wiring.

This thread

is one of several that show you how to do that.

Yes sorry mate. I think i got a bit carried away. Looks like i will have to open it up after all.
