[USA] Will Tariffs come about and lead to higher priced ebike parts

How soon can this be made secure for use? How much will that cost?

How soon can a person who does not care about foreign influence even after swearing an oath be made safe?
How soon can a Congress member who does not care about foreign influence even after swearing an oath be made safe?

a bit over the line for overpoliticizing it, guy :/

Now is the time to buy a lot of items, so you can make a killing and retire when the tariffs go back up.

I wouldn't bet on that, it's mathematically unfeasible to return to the original tarriff plan & govt knows it.
Given how unpredictable the governance is, you could very easily get burned.

Perhaps we should see what Nostradamus's AI predictions are for 2025, end of conflict, a weakening of the Catholic Church, a new world power emerging, bugger it will get the Ouija board and see if someone up there knows what's going to happen next.

At this point I don't think it's safe to assume the government will act rationally in any way when it comes to tariffs. (Which is why it's causing so much trouble for companies that import and export; you can plan for any new tariffs but you have to know what they are going to be.)

I'm just wondering if everyone is good with 30% price hike compared to months ago. Reminds me of the stores that jack up the price for a few weeks then lower it just above the original price. They call it a sale. So is everyone going on a buying spree with a 115% discount.

I'm not good with it but i can't change the fact. I can only work around it.
Made a bunch of buys right before everything kicked in.
Lotta big companies did the same, manufactured a year's worth of Chinese goods in 3 months, lol.

I have a couple IT clients in the finance world and they are throwing fits.
There's no safe bets, you just gotta let the storm pass.

Yeah, I bought a bunch of bike stuff before the storm. I was worried about disruption in the supply of wear parts, so I bought tires, brake pads, chains, etc.. Probably worried too much, but now I'm a bike store. I did buy the electrics for 2 future projects; a walking tractor and a heavy-duty cargo trike. Though my ability to envision projects overruns my ability to complete projects.
I kinda wish that I had bought more stuff to make bicycle motor wheels, battery components, and controllers with the doodads. Maybe the age of super cheap ebikes has ended, and a market for a capable ebike built on a quality donor bike will arise again.

State Farm doubled my auto insurance this year. Asked why they did not have an answer. On the News tonight they said that State Farm raised everyone's premiums 70% to cover their loses in California fires. This is the last straw for me. Texas has had a EV tax, $300 last year and $250 this year. Going to sell my car and just ride my Trike. Need a used EV neptronix battery around 60%. Thats 6kw.

Going to sell my car and just ride my Trike

Not just about you.

A silver lining. I have been working out my trike design/implementation with an eye on being able to ride after the system breaks down (and before, of course). I've moved now and found a place to live. Now I'll re-assemble the trike and starting riding it. The new place isn't as bike-friendly as where I moved from - I have other reasons to be here.

Think about your future and buy what you will need while you can get it.

I want to import a rz style motorcycle from china to usa. It might be a complete bike or a box of parts When might imports continue and tariffs fall?

So, what is the tariff bottom line on a battery purchased from EM3EV today? How and where is it collected?

I haven't kept up with the whirlwind but i would expect to pay at least 30% import fees.
Try to keep under the de minimis value of $800

As part of this orange man also got rid of the de minimis from China so you actually will pay more or possibly less (the wording is confusing) if it doesn't have a formal import. So what was free under $800 is now 50% or $100 although I'm not clear if that is the lesser or greater of the two, kinda assumed greater.

Looked into it.
Lotta chaff on the internet right now on this topic.
But it looks like de minimis isn't paused. You're paying the orange man tax, but it's not >100%. it should be more like 30%.

If in the next ~2 months a deal is not made between guys in suits then we are back up to the >100%. ( in theory )

More anecdotal

Do you know people that are getting stuff in under $800 duty free? How? For reference, I just paid $148 in tariffs on $362 worth of prototype PCBAs from JLC. Sometimes I wonder if UPS is just pocketing most of it.

Sorry, don't know!

That's 41% tariff! When was the order placed/ delivered. How was the tariff collected?

I've stopped ordering stuff from China until this tariff BS gets straightened out.

That was probably 30% plus UPS import handling fees so the best option he could have had as far as I understand it. If it was shipped via USPS I think it would have been 50% (or maybe $100 depending how you read the it). As far as I understand the difference if you pay the 50% or $100 that replaced the de minimis (yes they lowered it to 50% from I think it was 100% before) vs the current baseline 30% (assuming it isn't in one of the exempt or bonus categories where it could be lower or higher) is if it's shipped via a carrier like UPS, DHL, etc or via post. So it currently I think it makes more sense to have things shipped via UPS, DHL, etc as they'll do a formal entry at 30% and yes they will charge a fee but it's normally not too much and you may have to pay a fee to the post office on top of the 50%/$100 at least as it was reported before, I think it was like another $8.50.

But yes I've stopped buying anything that I don't absolutely need to for business and even then from US stock if I can. They want to see the result of doing stupid shit and causing this much uncertainty, it's me not spending money, I know I could keep spending but I don't want to and I know that will harm the economy and I don't care.

Wow, man.

Wow, man.
I mean I'm buying food still but like this hyper consumerism system we live in can be a delicate balance. I love buying stuff just like most Americans but if you introduce too much uncertainty about the future, increase recession risks, and generally dramatically increase my taxes that balance can be upset and if you have a natural frugal bent like I do it doesn't take much to shift into save mode.

I'm sure we'll spend our way through this like we always do but to me that's not the deal, the politicians support a stable economic environment and we consume, which means we need to work to pay for that, which means we have less time so we consume more to make up and the cycle continues. Notice how I didn't say a good economy, I said stable, stable as in predictable. If things are rough but you can plan for the future a person or a business can work with that. Too much uncertainty and both people and business stop investing and start saving. Now I'm still buying plenty of business things I need to operate but no major investments.

We already know what Tariffs do. Can not make money taxing imports, the volume goes down. GDP goes down and unemployment goes up. It normally takes a new administration 2 years to have full effect on the economy. If it this bad in a few months just can not wait for the next two years. I'm not going to spend anything I don't need to. Moved to heatpump cooling and heating in my home and will sell my car and only ride my trike. the rest is out of my hands.

I ordered last week, and it just cleared customs today, should be delivered tomorrow.
There is also a $30 brokerage fee, the rest are "government charges" no breakdown given.
UPS sends an email in advance of delivery to get you to pay before taking possession.
Government Charges:$147.93
Brokerage Charges:$29.00
Edit : this is what the payment options are "online payments can be made anytime up to 30 minutes prior to delivery. If you choose to pay your import fees online, we recommend saving a copy of your receipt to show the driver. Your driver also accepts limited payment methods in person upon delivery."

Ok, i get you better.

I think the best time to get a deal is times like these. I save during the hot times so i can buy stuff cheap when everything is down. Computer equipment is definitely down in price, so i'm finally investing in a decent amount.

Vulture strategy wins in this scenario, lol.
