Using 48v battery with 36v motor - peoples experiences?

Hi

Has anyone run a 36v motor with a 48v battery, and what was your experience of it?

I hadn't used my e-bike for 12 months and pulled it out to dust it off, but pretty sure the lithium battery wont charge fully, so it was a question of do i stick with existing 36v setup or upgrade battery from 36v 10Ah to 48v 15Ah battery for a long distance cruise planned with some friends.

The motor is some 36v 1 kw hub motor on the rear wheel , no idea what brand it is. I had to put all new 7 gear cluster on a custom axle i built to get it into my old steel bike frame. The e-bike is probably.

If you have the model of your controller, or if post a pic of your controller label, it would help to determine whether you can up the voltage with your existing unit. You can predict that your speed will increase by about 13/10, or 30 percent. The ratio is based on the number of cells in series to make a 36v pack, or 10, and a 48v pack, or 13. There will be a torque increase as well.

Not your motor or controller, but just an illustrative example:

The range you get from a pack is based on the energy stored in watt-hours, or Wh. Wh = voltage x Ah, so whether you get and increase or decrease in range can be estimated easily. If your 36V battery is rated at 14Ah for instance, and your new 48V battery is rated at 17Ah, then the original battery has 36x14 watt-hours of energy, and the new battery 48x17 watt-hours. Or, 540Wh and 816Wh, respectively. In this example the range increase is approximately 51%.
