Varstrom TSDZ2B seems to have full power in all 'gears' 1-5

I've just installed a new Varstrom TSDZ2B with EKD-01 display and the battery linked below. Problem is that it seems to deliver north of 400W in every 'gear' 1-5 and they are indistinguishable by 'feel'.

hopefully this link will display. If not, it's a 36V Cheterdoli from the Aleaivy battery store [brand+ according to Aliexpress] and is purportedly the 14,000mA-hr version. It appears to have 40 cells and reached 41.7V when fully charged. The pack weighs 1.5kg compared to 2.7kg of an older 10s-5p 10A-hr Hailong unit.

The battery took 8 hrs using the supplied 2A charger to fully charge from discharged fully so I'm guessing it's not far from advertised spec. It does however seem to be volatile in its response to usage, the percent remaining display will drop/recover at least 15% during a ride.

In accordance with regulations the throttle is not fitted and thus neither are the brake switches, otherwise it's as delivered. My investigations confirm that with a brake applied the black and yellow wires are joined, the red is open circuit, with the brake released all three wires are open circuit. I tried plugging the throttle into the harness but apart from operating the motor independently as presumably intended, the lack of power modulation remained.

Any suggestions? I wondered if the more energy dense cells that clearly must be used in this battery have a low internal resistance and this is messing with the TSDZ2B power settings?

My next move will be to try it with the Hailong unit but I'll await feedback before doing this.
