What fuse size do I need?

I bought a used bike that included a 48V / 1000W front wheel hub. The switch went out, which I took care of, and the fuse went out. The glass fuse that was being used doesn't have any markings I can make out.

If this is standard on these kits, can anyone help me with the V/amp rating for a replacement fuse?

Thanks.
Sal

A 48V 1000W kit is nominally 20A battery current continuous, Although you may see short peaks of up to 25A.

A 20-30A fuse should work fine.

I kept blowing 25A fuses on a 48V, 1kw kit. 30A for me has been pretty good since.

On the off chance you cosider it, dont replace a glass one with a new receptacle and plastic fuse. I had a fire once inside the plastic fuse - it blew so hot from the high current arc that the plastic fuse case caught fire. Almost spread to the lipo.

High current circuit breakers are nice.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I'd go with another glass fuse, but the only 250V 30A fuse I've found locally (so far) is ceramic (same form factor). What voltage rating is working for you guys?

Very same format fuse in the picture above that caught fire on my aprilia enjoy.

Yep, that's lipo right below it.

I was lucky enough to be running an errand near a good 'ole Harbor Freight Tools store, so I've got a nice box of fuses with the one I want for the same price of 3 at Radio Shack.

Thanks again guys, take care.

I now use strip fuse holders and fuses. Flame proof abs, fuses are very cheap from 20A upto 100A strip fuses can be stacked to make any size fuse upto 300A. sorted :D
