WHat Set-Up[ Do I Need To Do "Burn-Outs"

My brother keeps annoying me- he wants to do slides and burnouts but the 5305 is not obliging at 24s 65A or so in a 20" wheel.

Anyone here into this sort of nonsense??

Personally I prefer efficiency and reliability but the kids seem to like burnouts and "power-slides" :shock: :roll:
 
Narrower tyre, harder rubber, oil (WD40 works well), amps, amps amps (torque).
 
I have a city slicker profile tyre on the rear.

It's much like my head - smooth in the centre where most contact takes place - but knobby bits on the side for cornering. The smooth center does a nice burnout for the bogan kiddies.
 
The way the arabian burnout works is (apparently) :
* deflate the tyre
* fit a bike chain around the circumference
* re-inflate the tyre

5404 at 100-150V, 100A+, thick wires everywhere, overinflated thin tires.

My current setup does a fairly good heater. I would imagine the 5305 would be fine at that kind of power and only a 20" wheel. If you are looking for insane wheel spin, seated on the bike, it will take something very substantial. Where you have the weight located matters, but I can smoke my rear tire while leaning forwards on my bike, rolling at a few MPH holding the front brake. It takes at least 6KW. At 4, it's hard to make it spin, and it's super easy at 8+ with junk tires.
 
thin tires, high voltage, and adequate torque will do it.

When i was running 72v on my motor temporarily, it could do mad burnouts.. just had to lift the tire a bit, get it spinning to full RPM, and then drop it..

Back to 36v.. and 56v.. could barely pull it off :(

First a matter of balance, you can do a burnout with the setup that you have now. Put your weight in the front, while standing on the pedals and hard braking the front wheel; at the moment that you feel there's no weight on the rear wheel, give it full throttle and hold it. Then progressively release the front brake and resume to your normal riding position. That is a burnout start, you will control it after a few attempt.

Everyone is leaving out a critical ingredient for burnouts. That is to drill a hole in the head and empty at least half of the contents. :twisted:
 
Depending on road conditions, I can start a burnout on DayGlo Avenger with the front Fusin geared 36V motor at 48V, even with the Lyen 6FET limited to 20A or so. But it doesn't develop into a smoky real burnout; it grabs too quick. The tire is a Kenda Kross type: slick in center and knobby on sides. Usually when this happens the road has something on the surface, fine grit or sand, and the instant that's gone the tire grabs the hot sticky asphalt pretty well.


If it was a rear motor, I'd probably never have this happen, with all the weight back there. :lol:

I largely agree. I prefer stealth cruising. The younger guys prefer to turn $50 tires into piles of smoking debris. Not interested in low-heat, high-efficiency hill climbing. Only interested in breaking things and making smoke! I have seen these 40A ESC machines at 72v that AussieJester speaks of, there is one guy who's bike LIFTS at the slightest hint of throttle. I mean it stands up on its ass. Insane. :D
 
Nah, what you need for burnouts is $$$$$$.

Then you can afford to smoke stuff, get 100 or less cycles from batteries, etc. Pinkie, or the hill climber Luke built would be the model for sure. Forget affording much burn out type fun with most hubmotors. They'll do it all right, but only for a short time before the smoke comes out. Chain drive is where you need to head for this.

But if you want to do it with hubmotors, you'll start seeing the tire slip a bit at 2500 watts, but 3500 or more is where it gets really touchy. So say you have a 9c 2807 motor around, feed it 24-26s lipo and you'll see some tire smoke. And other smoke too is likely.

There are two burnout vids on youtube of note, one is a guy with what looks like an X5304 in a BMX, and the other is a guy with an X5304 in a front wheel drive on solid-forks. Both of them pop the tyre/tube before anything happens.

When I try this on my X5305 72v, the rear wheel sort of tries to lurch forward, then immediately goes slack, despite my having the throttle held forward.

That's why you need $$$. So you can put 144 v on a controller you are fine with getting 2 minuites out of. 100 amps at 100v oughta get that thing going. Fairly likely in the vids they've oiled up the tires or something too. At the least, you need some kind of slick surface under you, like plywood or painted concrete. Too much traction, and you'll merely launch, while losing a shoe.

Ever seen the burn out pits in the biker bars in Datona and such? Just a stall with a wall to put the front tire against, and some slippery wood or concrete underneath. Then while you have a beer they put a brand new tire back on your hog for about $500. Hopefully you showed up with an old tire on it.

It might be the controller. I don't carry a BMS with me. It sort of clicks forward a few cogs and then goes slack.

Yeah, well, these kids. You know me, Monster Hubbing it all the way, but the brother is into gears and ratios and mounting plates and all sorts of nonsense.

Anyways I found some unbranded Turnigys and they are good entry-level for the "Dark-Side" activities... :p I am thinking external mounted halls and a controller from that special friend of ours.
