Hi, I am thinking of building my own electric velomobile similar to the Schaeffler Bio-Hybrid. Ideally I would have liked to buy the Biohybrid, but the price is going to be between $10000 and $18000 USD. That is probably okay for someone that works in a high paying job, has worked for many years and doesn't have anything else to spend money on. But for me, an average guy with no education, my only choice is to build it myself.
I know Alligt makes some strong cargo-bike wheels, but at 20" I think they are too small to look good. Small wheels make it look like a vehicle for disabled people. The Biohybrid uses 24" wheels.
Does anybody know what kind of wheels the BioHybrid uses? They look like wheelchair-wheels. Slightly similar to the ones from Skyway perhaps, but probably much stronger in the lateral direction.
I was also considering using regular bike wheels with 20mm through-axles, but the hub flange seems too narrow to give enough lateral strength. The wheels will probably taco if I have a couple of passengers onboard.
Motorcycle wheels (similar to Cyclekarts) are also an option. But they are expensive.
What are you guys thoughts on wheel choice for a project like this? Do you know about wheels that are 24" or larger that would work with heavy weight?
