What’s the Best Battery Setup for a 24V Trolling Motor?

Hello everyone.

I’m looking to upgrade the battery setup for my 24V trolling motor and could use some advice from people with experience. I’m currently deciding between using two 12V deep-cycle batteries in series or investing in a dedicated 24V lithium battery.

My main priorities are runtime, reliability, weight, and long-term cost. The motor is used regularly for fishing trips, sometimes for several hours at a time. Are lithium batteries worth the higher upfront price, or would quality AGM batteries be a better choice?

I’d also appreciate recommendations on battery capacity and charging options.
 
For something like this I would definatly have a look at used EV- modules. How critical is battery voltage, can it take 33V?
In that case VW meb cell modules from the 82kwh battery would make a a really nice package with almost 7kwh.
They are 8s3p, and there probably are other altenatives too. Maybe there are some cars with 7s modules?

There are those with 3s modules otherwise, 2 of those in series would make 6s.
Then your max voltage would be just 25V, nominal 22v, and you vould have to go down to about 20V to get the most energy out.
Would your motor go that low, or can you adjust the LVC on it?

I hadn’t really considered using used EV modules for the trolling motor. My main concern would be whether the motor can safely handle the higher voltage and how practical it would be to set up the proper BMS, charging, and low-voltage cutoff. I’m mainly looking for a reliable setup that I can use for several hours of fishing without having to build something too complicated. I’ll have to check the exact voltage range and LVC of my motor before considering the EV-module route.
