I have a daymak voyager solar scooter with a lithium battery. I have the bill of sale. Daymak says they never sold them last year. The batteries should be warranteed for one year. I opened the battery pack and it has 4 batteries the size of 12v20a. Three batteries are Zhenlong lithium cell 12v 20 amp, but one is dead or not conducting and is 16v 20a. I need a replacement cell but can't find one. Or can these cells be rebuilt?edit,,I want to replace the 16v with a 12 v 20 amp.

A pic of what you have might help. It sounds like you have something like the lithium motorcycle starting batteries that are 4 lifepo4 cells in a plastic box.

But if you don't tell us what chemistry you have, we can only guess what matches it. Then recomend a seller on the wrong continent since we are also guessing where you live.

Sort of like this? http://www.electricmotorsport.com/store/ems_ev_parts_batteries_lpf_gbs_20ah.php

note: LiFeMnPO4

I'm in Ontario Canada. I meant one battery is dead and is a 16v20a battery cell. Why would this pack have 3x12v and 1x16v? I can't charge them because nothing goes through the 16v. The 12v still have juice. this is a picture. What are balancers? Thanks for the link to that battery.

Well, I'm old and can't see good anymore. But I doubt the young can see anything in a pic that small either.

That is pretty odd then, if you have a 16v battery in a string of 12v ones.

Balancers would be a small battery management system inside the case. Often present with lifepo4 batteries, the balancer will help keep one of the cells inside the box from overcharging.

I can't figure out how to attach a file and my pictures seem to big, so I had to make thumb nails. this is the best pic I can do. If I open it what will I find? The terminals are solder points. If I open the battery, can it be repaired or rebuilt?

no way to know if it can be fixed until we see what is broken inside. usually the lifepo4 cells will last forever unless something damages them.

not sure how you open the case, i assume the seam is glued but if it is plastic snap hooks then sometimes you can tease the seam open with a plastic credit card jammed into the seam to spread it or i have used a guitar pick to open the laptop cases.

if it is glued or welded then just cut along the seam with a saw, just a tiny depth initially to see how thick the plastic is. do you have a table saw to use? or a dremel tool or even a circular saw?

if you can cut almost all the way through the plastic without penetrating into the inside that is safest, then where it has cut through slightly you could start working the seam open enuff to see if it is clear so that you can cut deeper with the saw. make sense? don't get too far ahead of it though because there may be spots that are closer so still cut just a little at a time.

That's at least readable now. But I still see no indicator of what chemistry it is. I'm going to assume lifepo4. 5 cells? Or it could be 4 cell limn or lico.

Other than saying look up that company in china, I don't have much in the way of a lead for you. Lifepo4 12v batteries like that are fairly avaliable, but 16v may be hard to find.

Here's one place that just popped up the other day. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=48062

I'm not going to dig up other sources till you say what continent you live on. USA sources would be useless to ya if you live in England or Australia.

Googling the company, I got mostly sucky alibaba links.

I said I live in Ontario, Canada. I don't understand why there are three of 12 volt and one of 16 volt. I think they should be all 12 volt? I asked where can I find a 12v 20 a lith battery. I also wonder why Dakmak says they never had Voyager solar bikes last year and I have one, with bill,.

Canada eh! Well you're best bet would be Saskbattery. They offer free shipping withing Canada if I member crectly. Here's the website eh! http://saskbattery.com/?gclid=CPa90dug3rUCFc0-MgodtFcAmg

Couldn't find a 20Ah battery but I did find a 22Ah battery.

Check the dimensions and see if 4 of those would fit. Or maybe even 5 if you want to go to 60V and go a little bit faster. But on a Daymak, hmm... maybe not a good idea to go faster.

I don't get why there are three SLAs and one Lithium battery in your scooter. But from some things I heard about Daymak, they are kind of weird. Some of them run a 48V circuit for the lights with 48V lights which are harder to find. Maybe the scooter runs on 36V SLAs and the lights and other stuff like that run on the 16V Lithium battery?

The pic of scooter is correct,,,from the Daymak invoice "Quanity 1 - Voyager Solar Lithium Bat. Total $1917.87
I will look at taking the battery apart, but I have no idea what I will find inside.???

you will most probably find a batch of cylindrical cells inside wired in series and parallel. it is not clear that they do have a BMS inside, so best thing to hope for is a disconnected wire between cells.

CANADA, so idealy a Ca retailer, or at least north american. Might look at battery space for starters. I'm not sure if the scooter places like monster and others are carrying lithium yet.

Sorry I missed the location. I've been extra dumb lately. My dad survived, but he's still in hospital. So I'm not mentaly all there lately.

I'm also confused by the use of one 16v battery in the string, but it's very likely that a 12v one could be substituted as far as running the scoot goes. It's charging where it gets tricky.

However, that opens up another possible problem, since you would then be likely to overcharge the whole thing by 4v unless you got a new charger for "48v".

The possibility exists that your charger is a "48v" charger, and you've been undercharging all along. A voltmeter may be able to tell you what the output voltage of your charger is, and verify that a 12v replacement will work or not work.

Then we still don't really know what to suggest you buy untill we know what kind of lithium polymer battery you have. It could be lico, limn, or lifepo4. Each would have a slightly different end of charge voltage. Personally, I hate this shit where you get a battery and only know it's "lithium" and nothing else. The retailer refusing to help you makes it even worse, but that scoot could have been sourced straight from china leaving the CA retailer perplexed about it.

What to do? I'd cut that sucker open, and hope to see labels on the cells themselves. Then you could at least know what chemistry to look for in other brand names. Since the end of discharge voltage varies so much between lico and lifepo4, you really can't just swap in lifepo4 if you have lico.

Maybe you get lucky and find a broken wire inside and vilola it's fixed!!

In addition, do a search of all relatively nearby wheelchair battery sellers online, looking for the same brand. I came up empty on a quick search, but maybe you can dig deeper and find the same brand and size.

Your scooter is advertized as being a 48V 500watt one running on lead acid batteries. I'm thinking that some color blind worker who can't read good and still a little drunk from last night's party dropped that 16V battery in the scooter by mistake. There should be only one chemistry of battery in that scooter, all SLAs or all Lithium. I don't get why the two are mixed. Or is that battery that says its Lithium really SLA? Zhejiang Zhenlong Battery Co sells SLAs that they say have 16V in them :|

I told you what I have for batteries, 4 lithium, they are light weight. I ask questions because I know jack about batteries and circuits. My scooter was sold with lithium batteries from the head office store, that are guaranteed for one year. When I phoned to ask about the scooter I was told they didn't sell them last year. I have the invoice but it's not worth my time and money to chase after this. I just want a campatible battery.
