Which one? Haibike SDuro SL or Focus Jarifa 27?

I think I'm heading towards a new ready made bike rather than a self build and these two are what I have the budget for.

Does anyone have experience of either or both?

Where should my money go?

Well, the Haibike is full suspension, the Jarifa is a hard tail. Hard tails are lighter, and less complicated. Full suspension adds comfort and complications.

Both are little 250watt bikes. Honestly, I'd pick neither. But if I was forced to, I'd take the Jarifa since it would be lighter. That way I could throw it farther in frustration.

Sarcasm aside, I think it really depends on how you plan to use them. Full suspension is nice in the rough, but it is added weight to a bike with very little power. You aren't going to get far enough off the trail with a 250w bike for a rear suspension to be required, so the hard tail with it's lower weight might be more fun.

Sorry, the SDuro in budget is the Hardseven version, so also a hardtail.

I realise that there are more powerful motors out there, the new Impulse thats on the Jarifa 27 is meant to put out 70Nm of torque which seems like it'll be quite capable.

The yamaha motor of the Haibike is rated at 60Nm, which should be okay too right?

Ahh, My bad. I didn't see the hard tails.

By the specs, the Focus is better. It has a Rockshox fork VS the Haibike's Suntour. The Focus has Shimano Brakes VS the Haibike's Tektros. The focus has a 612wh battery VS the Haibike's 400wh.
The Haibike realy only wins on aesthetics.

I suspect the Focus is using a Bosch drive with their own battery and control system. I can't confirm that yet, but the cost of developing a system like theirs would be more expensive than a small company could afford, so it's my theory. Haibike went with Yamaha. Both are great units, if you can call 250w great. The Bosch unit is comparable to the Yamaha. here's a good comparison:

If you kidnapped my favorite girlfriend and threatened to read her all the texts in my phone if I didn't ride one of these two bikes around the block, I'd have to go with the Focus. Maybe. I might also decide girlfriends are replaceable.

Hello Tyler,

I think it dosen´t matter which bike you choose because both bikes are good and have the same level. In my opinion Haibike is always a bit to expensive but I like the design.
If you like to drive fast and have hills in your area then take the Focus with big battery.

Btw, 250Watt is absolutely enough for a cyclist 350watt is enough for 45km/h support and more than 500Watt is simply a Motorbike but I will admit it is fun :D

regards
frank

Meanwhile, I understand software can be used to reprogram to 350w.. more than enough for commute purposes, pretty insufficient for offroad...

I just checked the price for those. I find it is a lot for what it is as an (supposedly) off road bike. You could build much better for that amount.

If I was on your side of the sea and going to buy a ready made off road bike, I would try to bargain with this guy who has a great bike for sale and it's been a while: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=81795&p=1230844#p1230844

I'm sure that's true! ... though not sure many folks are building their own houses anymore... or appliances... or a lot of things. "Car"-sized vehicles, etc. (Have a friend whose father did actually build the house he lives in today.)
