Every times they just wanted to get info on that bike they often crossed during patrol...
Probably because it was indistinguishable from a blur or ufo hehe. I once got stopped for speeding in a car, but I had a wearable computer, and the cops were so interested in this thing that they asked me to show them a bunch of things. For a while I thought I was going to avoid a ticket but no. After they got their thrills peeking at my computer they still gave me a speeding ticket. It depends entirely on the cop, may even depend on his mood at the time, or other things on his mind.

I agree wit you.. it depend on the cop...

Often they ask me; Is that you we watched on tv and your speed record?

I just can't say NO... ... i'm taged!

But they are still impressed and understand that it's not the same ebike I used for the 94kmh...

What they are impressed by is the acceleration I have..ex when i start from a stop at an intersection... They often say.. Yeah it's you we watched accelerating like that?.. I thought it was a motorcycle.. lol... but USUALLY WHEN THEY SEE PEDAL ON TEH BIKE THEY LEAVE ME ALONE... SO EACH TIME I SEE COPS... I BEGIN TO PEDAL !!!!.. it'S THE KEY!

ALSO WHAT HELP ME TO NOT BE ARRESTED IS THAT I HAVE VERY VISIBLE SPOTLIGHT.. 70W OF PURE LED LIGHT... 2300lumen!.. They already said they can see me coming at more than 1 mile... So I'm visible, respect the driving rules, Imobilize the bike at every STOP or red light and respect cars and cyclist...

I've never been arrested from over 5800km total from the very first ebike run..

Maybe I touch wood...Who know...

You didn't show them Canadian "beavers" ? That's why.

i think that it's time for this to be put to the test.(it will happen sooner or later)
for all your help, and solidarity,i am truly grateful.and i hope to re-inforce the
purpose for which we are here ,and so "driven".
those of us that see our work as a wonder ,and continue to make a change
for the "greater living experience" ....we ARE demonstrating ,as engineers(!)-
"THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER ANSWER-AT LEAST!" AND
WE CAN FIND ANSWERS THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
that there are liars out there ....these bikes are the evidence of some such lies.
(anyone who has traveled,KNOWS about the signs of
EXCESSIVE consumption, and can see when it's excessive!)
i am alone here ,and the good fight "ends ONCE".
it's just not over yet!
if i should win this,i will immediately order more kits ....
and mount them on some demo frames, for sale.
too bad. it's that simple!
lol ,all you guys are great,do watch for the result tonight?
doc ,you and i and the other doc are lucky
to have had the character as a role model
(the guy has been my hero, since "ignatowski" in "taxi")!

btw:
i run a "phoenix kit", now with lifepo @48X 20 ah.
I got the 72601 'cos i needed to get away from the
72x48 x-lyte controller and it was documented
i also got the kelly 12151 ,(still making decisions in the
scheme....)
and i do want to change to 96X10 for the connector
limits.......((I -SQUARED ) R)
when i got it i could do 45mph (hot off the charger -72V SLA)
since this hap'd i have a speedometer .
it is good to have, because fun DOES get in the way of
accurate judgement!

just got back from the court,
and i will be appointed a public defender for a fee of $100.
the prosecutor would not even look at the law ,and i have a feeling the
case will become interesting-when tried....
jeeepers!

And if you look like you are pedaling really fast some people just might believe you are actually making the bike go that fast. :p

Pedaling slow and easy while scooting along, especially uphill, is an instant tip-off that something isn't right and it's the first thing I noticed about the 2 other ebikes I've seen on the road.

Doc,

You are 100% right.

Think about this... your riding along and a police officer sees you,

1.) If your even moving your feet he assumes your a bike and pays no attention to you...
2.) I don't know a single officer who can judge a bicycle speed on sight and many of the trapping methods they use won't work on Bicycles,
My local PD uses Laser boxes (similar to vascar but with out the possibility of human switch flip error). I can go by these at 40 on my bike and I just don't register at all (the police told me, more on that later).
The issue is it concentrates a beam about 3-5" off the ground. A bicycle doesn't have enough surface area (spokes, ground clearance) so the length of time it breaks the beam is less than the device needs to
figure it is a motor vehicle vs a cat or dog or just a leaf blowing through. So their tech can't even register me.
3.) When passing police, don't make it obvious you have a throttle... keep pedaling, hell SHIFT as you go by and change your pedal cadence.... removes all suspicion 99% of time.
4.) Don't go flying past cops uphill with no pedals. This one is fairly obvious and has an exception - the cop challenged you to a race, knows you build eBikes and isn't a 2 face dick who will write you up.

So with all this, I have not yet been "stopped" by the police but... I had a really cool conversation last night with a local townie cop (one I have had issues with in the past).

The gist was this:
1.) They all know what I'm working on (A bike for cops, law enforcement, offroads in addition to a commuter model - turn key).
2.) They have seen my 3am-4am speed trials and in this officers words "That thing is extremely cool"
3.) Noone is going to bother me for running my speed trials.

This is such a 180 from the normal attitude (5 years worth) these cops have given me and only 1 thing has changed, I am building something they see has a value for them.

In addition, I will be meeting the officer tonight so he can test ride... and very likely be supplying the local boro with 2 evaluation models for a 2 week review - read that as SALE!

So what I posted earlier about talking to the cops, dropping subtle hints about the federal laws supporting and pre-empting their local motor vehicle laws, etc... it can go a really long, long way towards a peaceful co-existance with the police in the areas you ride. Remember the less conspicuous you are and the more they know about you in my experience the less they bother you ... heck they might even ask to ride it!

i spoke to a "cip lee" at cpsc...
he sez this law///"low"/// pertains to the SAFETY REQUIREMENTS.
AND ONLY TO THE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS.
in that a state may "classify " the bike as anything!
help!

Have not read or previously applied to this thread here in The Cesspool.

I have been more than just "stopped" by the popo here in Miami.

One of them even, nearly, and most deliberately set upon handcuffed-me and beat my head with prizefighter blows and then tried to "black me out"
with the old thumbs-on-the-jugular veins, movement. He meant to make me die, without leaving even a trace of mark for a coroner to reconstruct the crime.
It was attempted first degree murder. A fellow officer, an older female, hobbled up to the cruiser, just in time, and STOPPED HIM from stopping my heart.

Ten more seconds and I've have been dead.
I have been stopped by police many times now since I became a THORN to them, as of last November 6th.
I have no "priors". Fifty four years and NO problems with the po-po, until I began to call out the bad ones,
the minority of the cops here who are THUGS with badges.

I do not lie. I do not embellish. I do not roll over. I do not paint all cops at being "bad".
But there IS a =tendency= for certain personality types, to gravitate toward positions of power over others.
Some few of them are abusive, evil, and destructive of the public peace, and some FEW of these renegade cops
actually CAUSE new crimes to be committed by the very people they are supposed to moderate.
"Serve and Protect" is the famous mantra of the Good Policeman. We have some good cops here.
We also have some very, very bad cops here in Miami, and also, at the helm of Endless Sphere (my opinion).

I have been stopped by the popo. I have now stopped the popo from stopping me.
I have them in a legal bag. Officer Lanares won't last long in prison, where I think he is destined to live his last days.
The inmates will kill him in his sleep, after raping him with a broomstick. That's how much "criminals" resent bad cops.

Yes, that the federal law pertains only to safety requirements is what TylerDurden has consistently pointed out in the ES forums whenever the matter is discussed. Its shameful that the vendors of ebike kits imply that the federal law is otherwise.
