Yes I am rather proud of calling them clowns under the gizmag comments! Same SamD here.

The problem with journalism and advertising now, is that you can make up a press release saying whatever you want, and these sort of technology sites will publish it verbatim.

But we should really be taking it up directly with the bike manufacturers such as specialised (sic) and holding them to account..

samd - PROPS man, that was rich! :D :D :D

Now I'm thinking it's GIZMAG that made up the "world's fastest" description???
At least they're doing articles about ebikes, so don't hammer them too hard.

Hey hey, I love GIZMAG. If you think that's hammering, stick around.

But they do remind me of the old "Popular Science" magazine, reporting on stuff that'll never make the mass market.
Oh no! Did I say that out loud?

sk8norcal is right - they do a good job reporting on light EV's - they are a friend to the community. I'm just wanting to know where this "world's fastest ebike" comes from.

I'm still waiting for the nuclear Jetson's type of flying car Popular Science and others promised me back when I was a kid that I'd have by now. Now it's the wait for the 10X in energy density of batteries that I'm more eager about. This year I'd settle for just double.

Preach it man, I'll say "Amen". Where's my inflatable rubber space station? (1963 PopSci that had the review of the "new" Karman Ghia had an inflatable space station featured on the cover...)

I thought that was a given to park my car in.

I seriously doubt that Specialized expect this bike to sell in any quantity.
They know that most cyclists are not buyers of up market units unless its competition biased ( Lycra set, road racer wannabe's), and they know the price point of the millions of Asian built Ebikes,...so this is most likely just a "marketing" exercise to get the Specialised name in the news, and the quoted price is deliberately inflamed to deter mass sales as they wont have the production capacity to supply an Ebike on a "chinese" scale of volume, or the skills support in their dealers to provide aftermarket support for electric drives etc.
I will be interesting to see when one is actually spotted on the road ! :D

I bought my daughter a 16" specialised bike at the weekend at the Local Bike Shop (LBS). I mentioned electric.

He asked if I had seen the new Specialised Electric - "world's fastest ebike!" he said.

"Oh, the 200 watt one? They look cute. Do you wanna see a 10,000 watt stealth electric?" I asked him.

He didn't think it was funny....

Everyone knows that Gary Fisher invented the e bike.

I just saw one of these at my LBS Trekstore. It's a gold-colored version of the same bike. It appears to have been for sale at some point (and they seem like they would still sell it), but it's showing wear and tear. I can only guess it's their "runaround" bike, go get pizza on it and stuffs.

The motor looks nice - beefy, cast-aluminum-looking case. No controller visible, must be in the battery container. The battery is kinda sexy looking, but doesn't look big enough even to be 10Ah....
