and how is that working out for you so far?
Pretty good. Death tolls from coal pollution are down. (38,000 a year in 2003, 13,000 a year now.) Airborne pollutants in the US have decreased by 50% to 90% depending on region and pollutant. The ozone hole has stopped getting larger and is starting to shrink. The Cuyahoga river hasn't caught fire in 50 years.

So some of the efforts people have made have worked. We should continue them.
you mean that "charity" that has its uppermanagment that is basically made up of big shots of big oil and other corporations that take a big ass shit on the enviroment and profit from its demise?
I care about what they do, not about how you feel about members of its upper management. So yes, good cause - even if your burning hatred for certain people blinds you to any good they do.
where did you get the notion i support guns in schools or anywhere else? and be specific please.
You sound like you do, so I am assuming you do. It's clear you love guns and would do anything to advance your pro-gun cause, no matter how many children have to die. Proud of yourself yet?

(Don't like my assumption? Take a good look in the mirror before you complain.)

you forgot to add the part where none of that is thanks to good causes you donate to.

so, its do as i say, not as i do? the effectiveness of charities like that is borderline zero. unless you are management, then you are at least raking in the dough of those dumb donors.

so far you have not disproven any of my "assumptions" i made directy on your previous comments. just lame ass excuses that prove my point exactly and even defending them like you rather giving your money to millionaires that run a "green" charity to give them tax free money to frock over the same enviroment in their other job. that is not an assumption, that is plain facts you can find with a 20 second google search if you botherd enough to know where your money goes.

like i said: you give your 5 dollars to greenpeace and make yourself feel better while the rest of the people can go die in a ditch.

at least when i look in the mirror i can look at myself, i dont see how you can.

ps: i do like me some guns.

The present tack of the discussion is not productive. Little ever is around here but its getting awfully personal don't y'all's think?

people from certain countries tend to take uncomfortable facts about their countries personal....

still not making much sense. are you actually making the argument that its better to trow people in jail for long enough until they "find jeebus" so they dont commit further crimes because its not prison but the fear of god that keeps people from committing crimes? am i understanding that correctly?

It makes perfect sense to anyone with at least the Forrest Gump level of IQ.

What I'm making fun of is:

That the finding religion is so often the most effective part of imprisonment, thought it doesn't carry over well to being free again. (I had this idea for a movie with the guy who is faking religion in prison because there is some amount of leaving the zealots alone in the lockup, then when he gets out he begins realizing that if he'd continued to fake it he'd still be getting a lot of that treatment.)

That so many of us consider it a charade but play along because we think it sure beats the alternative.

That people like you want to end that and have them quit behaving just because of their religion even if that does mean going back to . . .

Well, I hope the Hannibal the Cannibals among them find you first.

Yeah, I think this shows it's time for both of you to flee. Does Flippy HAVE a country to flee to?

So I was born and raised in California, but my native Texan father said 'Y'all so much that I did, too. Still do some, just not like I used to. If I moved there I'd be a 'Texian,' nonnative. But even native Texans say I sound like one when I visit.

Didn't know they said 'Y'all' in N'York.

I don't see why Jack and Flippy are arguing. To me they are both on the same side. The correct one. The little people need more and the big ones less. Corruption needs to be combated. The planet needs cleaning before it's too late.

Maybe their argument is about methods to accomplish this? I suppose that would be alright. I'm all for finding a better way to do things.

Nothing wrong about donating money. I give away quite a bit. I keep it local. Other than the IRS the biggest outfit I give too is the local food banks. I've been known to give to the homeless. There are a lot of them in CA. I'd rather them piss it away on booze than some large international charity on their "overhead".

i've made the Institute for Justice a beneficiary :bigthumb: they know why the usa is the land of opportunity, and fight every day to keep our rights 8)
most people have no clue.
a guy in Texas wanted to have a food truck. his city has a limit of 12 so they turned him down. IJ sued and WON at the state supreme court. The city says their city is not covered by the texas constitution  and still won't let him have a food truck  Shows how stubborn people in government can be. So IJ is back at court. Will the supreme court fine the city? or will the court order that the state police arrest the city council? .......... this is the only charity i really like because a goal is to let people start their own business,
rather than find helpless people and give them money. there are thousands of charities helping helpless people, but few help you start a business by going after unfair laws. :bigthumb:

the guys problem is that he was not rich enough to start a business.

i think this is called cronyism - it is not about money but being friends with those in power.

again: not rich enough.

if you notice the state or county will give billions in tax credits or subsidies to get a new amazon warehouse or some whatever factory (the american foxconn factory is is real doozy) so companies can basically run tax free for years and threathen to leave the state if they dont get a new deal.

Good idea! Sue for equal treatment under the law 8) another job for IJ (they work for free)

i rather see states lose the abillity to waive taxes at their will. everyone pays their fair share, no exeptions.

fun fact: most big companies like amazon, apple, GE and so on pay exactly jack shit in taxes or even get refunds. once you are part of the 1% you basically pay nothing because its legal to bribe legislators.

Exactly! That is how they will lose their ability to make sweetheart deals. Once an equal justice case makes it to SCOTUS, they will be prohibited :bigthumb:

good one...

dunno if you kept up with what kind of people are on the SCOTUS these days?

i listen to their decisions with great interest. :bigthumb: i don't study the people themselves.
IJ WON 7 of 8 cases so i'm pleased overall :bigthumb:

i'll give you a clue: the last one mconnell added believes that god is above mans laws and wants the end times to come sooner so she can go to heaven. you can take 1 guess on her take on abortion if you can get her to stop humping a bible.

link?

Amy Coney Barrett, look her up. she is quite the bible fanatic, including in her judgements in cases.

its funny, on her confirmation hearing she made a complete 180 from her past decades of statements.

when talking about abortion pre SCOTUS:
“If anything, the public response to controversial cases like Roe (v. Wade) reflects public rejection of the proposition that (precedent) can declare a permanent victor in a divisive constitutional struggle rather than desire that precedent remain forever unchanging. Court watchers embrace the possibility of overruling, even if they may want it to be the exception rather than the rule.”

and this is just one of dozens of qoutes from her about this subject. she never changed her stance in her entire life from what i can tell.

and at the confirmation hearing a few years later:
“Never. It’s never appropriate for a judge to impose that judge’s personal convictions, whether they derive from faith or anywhere else on the law.”

when do you think she was full of shit? at the hearing or her entire recorded life before that?

That's always been my problem. The most unfair law I know is you're still required to pay in full even though they won't give you a full time job.

And of course I'm kidding, commies.

yes Amy- did hear a lot of comments about her. as i recall she was a Judge for a few years, so where are all the crazy rulings?
Most people can do a job that they are hired to do. With 7 kids and the whole world watching, she will probably be very careful with her vote. :thumb:

nicobie said:
Why should she be careful? She's got the job for life. She doesn't have a boss.

they can still kick her out. (not happening)

but that said: dont forget trump/mitch replaced 30% of the SCOTUS in the past years so its not just her. its also that "i like a beer" asshole and that guy that looks like paint drying that replaced scalia.
