I love riding, sometimes I love pedaling!

Nice Denis, very nice. And welcome to the forums.

About the Schlumpf gearbox, how much did it set you back? And any idea where one can be bought in the US?

Thanks lazarus2405, I purchased the Schlumpf high speed drive from http://www.pbwbikes.com/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/16/products_id/57. I drove up to Chico, CA from Southern CA to have it installed, because special tools are required. see link: http://www.utahtrikes.com/ARTICLE-33.html. Total cost is $758 which includes the install charge. It's the 130bcd bolt pattern version with a 52 teeth front chain ring and black anodized crankarms. You can check http://www.schlumpf.ch/md_engl.htm for US dealers. If you can not find a nearby dealer, then the last option would be shipping your bike to have it installed.

OMG i've been planning a dahon built for a while but dahon bikes are expensive. That MU look great. I've been trying to find a cheaper Boardwalk. I want to keep the bike in the $150 range. That's nuts. $758 for just the chain ring alone. Or is that with the cost of the bike? Some guy near my area have a 2004 Speed P8 frame only without front or back wheel for $200. Your post really make me itch on pullling that trigger.

The Schlumpf high speed drive adds 2.5X ratio to the front chain ring at high gear which turns my 52 teeth front chain ring into a 130 teeth ring so I can add pedal power while going down hill or at full throttle above 25mph. I was able to pedal down hill to increase the speed from 33 to 42 mph. A front chain ring that big will not fit on my bike, so I guess the expense is worth it.

Wow, a lot more expensive than I had anticipated. Right now I'm running a 26" wheel, 14t rear, and whatever is standard on average mountain bikes for the front chainring. At the very fastest I can make my legs move, I can't keep up above ~17mph. That's a very elegant solution, and a fine bit of engineering, but it's a lot more than I'd pay, given the other options available.

Still, a very beautiful bike.

Hello everybody, I’ we just find this forum and, must say, delighted to see that I am not alone…
This is short description of my latest bike.
Motor X-Lyte 504 20A controller, 6x12V9Ah SLA…
As donor bike is used some cheap Chinese bike and so far I’ we replaced almost everything with better parts, still front fork and disc need to be replaced…

Interesting conversion! Is that an intermediate gearbox (Lashout?) I can see between the Kollmorgen and chainwheel? I'd like to know a little more about it. What's the reduction ratio between the Kollmorgen and cranks? How does it sound? I use a Unite MY1018z driving direct to the cranks, and it's very noisy under load.

HAL9000v2.0, that is badassical!

I love the custom frame. What's inside? I mean what kind of batteries are you running.

Where did you get that rear brake disk? Kind of solves the hub motor clearance problem.

Now you just need a really juiced controller

Geeze, I didn't even know they MADE discs that big for bikes . Very impressive. Excellent work on the frame. What's range/top speed like?

Yes, I must agree with the "expletive, look at that disc!" sentiment. Please, tell us all about it, size, performance, and where we can get them.

Disc is custom , must say, this is the v3.1. Problem is to find right material, first two was made from saw blade for stonecutting but it was to stiff and guys who made x-lyte didnt cast it wll so it was hard to center it properly. than i made one out of inox and milled alluminium covers on motor so it became planar. Performance is way better than i have expected. It stops how hard you want whenever you want. Disc is 355mm dia and 2,2mm thick. Costed allmost as motor but I'm happy :)

frame is made from 1,8mm steel bended on CNC machine and designed to fit 74V24Ah Kokam battery pack. Now I have 7X12V9Ah SLA FirstPower batt. First reason is that Kokam wont sell unless I need few tons and second is that this custom pack is over 1000€, but one day...

New 72V40A controler is on the way. Also new fork. This one have intention to bend during breaking and I will mount dual 255mm disc on front.

This is also custom fork; shocks and housing is from Gillera Runner, tubes are 35mm stainless steel ang upper part from old Tomos Cross Senior 125. Springs are also custom with 250mm travel.

That's truly great work.

Performance is way better than i have expected.

With a rotor diameter that huge, I'd suspect a whole lot out of it!. Can it throw you over the handlebars? :D

English clearly isn't your first language. We don't seem to have many Europeans here, mostly North Americans, with a few Aussies and Brits here and there. Where're you from and how popular is ebiking there?
