Zippy Flightmax / Turnigy lipo testing

Don't tell us your charging lipo in a hospital. That would be slightly crazy, imho. Although they would probably have beefy circuits to run all their equipment, fire suppression may become a problem. Good luck!

Bulk loading none the less (with safety cutouts for cell over voltage and temperature).

My "pack" is actually contained within a LiPo Sack inside my trunk while charging (and discharging at the moment) and there were no running o2 lines or tanks... I also wouldn't use the RED plugs, those are backed up power and needed for medical stuff but the plug in the bathrooms is perfect - GFI and everything = )_

So far Ive charged on trains, at nearly every park I go to, some coffee shops... the list is endless and for the record, no I haven't had any issues since migrating to this more or less automatic charger.

I would not advise others to imitate me (except maybe methods, but ill betcha hes charged in a nuke silo or some crazy thing like that!

Anyone have a good vendor for the S-320 meanwells? or the PS SP-320, specifically I am interested in the 48v variety. Looking for the S-145-48 also.

I bought 8 of those for testing.
I have access to 60 more at 10% off of my already amazing price.
I am going to build a series of chargers.

My first SMPS lipo charger was one of these and it's still going well. I just got it from ebay. Unless they've changed in the mean time they're the passively cooled with the 'cage' type enclosure. They still get really hot so I put a fan on mine to keep the temperature down. There's no room internally so it had to be mounted on the outside of the case.

I noticed you hadn't posted in a bit, I thought you must have been on holidays. I hope your dad is OK.

Methods are those power supplies local to you or can they be shipped from china ?

I WORK in a hospital and charge my bike here daily. Our electrical and mechanical engineering departments with all their toys have become my new playgrounds :) Thus far I have built lipo powered ebikes for 2 other staff members and have a 3rd interested. If that happens I'm going to commandeer one of the bike racks and make a dedicated e-bike charging station . Viva la revolution

Note to self: Don't offer your secretary a demo ride of your 5kw ebike in a corridor. 2 seconds in to the ride she plowed into a wall and stacked it

They ship from the US. I will tell more after I have a chance to test them and close the second half of the deal.

Cool. If shipping doesn't work out too rediculous I might grab a couple. Unfortunately the bulk buying discount you guys get will probably be offset by the shipping costs to send the stuff half way back around the world...

I'm both happy and sad about the lipo prices falling. I'm not buying any more until they're $20 a pack. Which at this rate should be June :p
The 25C zippys are still better value for platinum members at $56 with the $6 bonus though.

Just bought 9 of those 25c packs for a 18s3p or 24s2p setup.

They should allow me to put my Methods-spec 18 fets controller to good use.

I also drilled some holes in the 9c covers and ordered a temps sensor and some 12g teflon wire to replace the phase. Should be fun!

Good buy on those packs!
25C are monsters...

I got my drilled 9C up to 200C. Smoke came out but no apparent damage.
I am going to mount a computer fan to blow on the motor - I think this is all that is needed to run a 9x7 in a 20" wheel with 100V 100A.

36V A123 tool packs have dropped to $25 btw.....

I drove my electric car to work today with the 470lbs of deal lead acid batteries.
I am going to do some Wh calculations and if I am satisfied I can make it to work and back I am going to switch over to Lipo.

Nothing like shaving 450lbs off of a 1300lb car

Do you reckon a computer fan will move enough air ?
I've done similar mods to a GM hub and although I'm only feeding it 75v 50-70a she still gets too hot to touch and really smells hot after a ride. I was going to try one of the little hobbyking plane motors that do 10 squillion rpm

What's the distance to your work ? A lipo powered car would be cool. I can just see the headlines now - "EV car crash melts hole through to China"
I'm thinking of converting a motor bike, starting out small before working up to a car.

Owners of HobbyCity are :: rubbing their hands together:: after hearing the news
of Methys plans to convert his car to Lipo

I have even been thinking about how I could get rid of my led acid batery and use a 3s 0r 4s system for a smaller/lighter/morepowerfull car battery!

As of the 17th the 25c 6s1p Turnigys are back ordered, and I was too late. Hopefully they come in time for Gary's BMS...

I wonder if I still get the flash sale price if I back ordered these and was already charged at the sale price...

I was going to buy a large load of these supplies and mod them (to sell as chargers) but I have been sucked up into a larger project. No sense coveting my source anymore.

These are re-badged - SP-320-24
In quantity I can get these for $24 each shipped - and I have quite a few if anyone needs one.

SP-320-24 on Ebay

Seller has these units which are lightly used - with power cord.
He also has about 100 units that are brand new with no cord.

Before nOoBs fire away - please be aware that we "think" these can be modded but we dont know for sure yet.

Nice. I assume that shipped price is only within the US ? I'll grab a couple if you can get them down this end of the globe for around that price

You would have to negotiate that with the seller. That is how much it costs to get them to me in quantity - it will be a lot more to get them to that backwards little island you live on :p . Normally he charges $15 each just for Domestic shipping.....

LOL..I mean OI..that'll be enough of that talk Methy you.. you.. you frock motor user you

Whats the deal with these 24v Meanwells can you run a couple in series so 50v can be outputted?

KiM

Yeah the cheek of him, insulting our fine country on Australia day too!

Sometimes it sucks when I hear of all the deals you guys have going in the US :( I guess it's for the best, I already have 3 ebikes and only 2 legs, if I had access to more cheap stuff my car would be out on the street ! Speaking of my car, I drove it for the first time yesterday in about a month. I was crusing up to the first intersection and found myself looking for a regen button to slow down instead of using the normal brakes

Thats to funny. I climed into my road runner(4speed auto) After drinving my srt4 (5speed manual) for a long time, and went for a wideopen shift from 1st to 2nd and slamed the brakes like I was stabing the clutch and my gf almost hit the dash lol!

I am thinking of a lightweight setup for my wife and those Turnigy packs are certainly tempting. I've used lipos for many years (from my RC past) but I still have heavily planted fear of thermal runaway, not necessarily caused by charge/discharge profile errors but by simple overheating (in a car trunk under the sun). Anyone have stories to share about packs exploding due to overheat in disconnected state ?

Thats the idea. 2 or 3 or 4 - as many as you like. The charge current will be equal to the lowest current limit in the chain.
