    My 1st ebike build - a folding 20" Dahon

Nice to see Dahon conversion. Would like to electrify my folding bike one day. Looking at the website for the motor you got it has the words "proprietary technology" that would make me hesitate as that usually means that it's not easily repairable

Further ideas about no power to motor?

I was finally able to buy a new KT controller. I plugged everything in and still have the same issues as before. I feel like crying. I did not break out the multimeter yet. I thought for sure that we had narrowed the issue to the controller. I guess I should go back through and do the test...

Further ideas about no power to motor?

So I come back to the bike today and plug in the 2x3 hall effect conector(the connector that before when unplugged allowed the wheel to spin freely). However plugging it in did not immediately cause the wheel stiffness. I turned on the power and plugged in the throttle and after some minutes it...

Further ideas about no power to motor?

Ok I did some testing Multimeter set at the 2000 OHM range Red lead to controller Black power wire all three controller phase wires read 362 or so Black lead to controller Red power wire all three read about 358 or so Other combinations give no reading (I tried going down to the 200 OHM range...

    An electrified light Dahon

I'm very interested to see your build. I have a folding bike and a full size electric bike and I would love to turn my folder electric. But I would want it to me multi-modal, that is I can ride it to a bus or train fold it ride then get out and ride. Most of the folding electric bike out...

Further ideas about no power to motor?

I was doing some searches here and found this in a tread: "Turn the motor by hand with it connected but switched off. Is it hard to turn. Disconnect it from the controller. If it's now easier to turn, your controller's had it." This would seem to indicate that my controller is at issue

Further ideas about no power to motor?

Hello again, Thank you I had put this aside for a while(since I got temporary access to a car). So I am back now figuring how where I was at with this. I did buy a new multi meter so I have that. I tried plugging in a different throttle I had. That one also makes "throttle" to appear on...

Further ideas about no power to motor?

Re: the multimeter I think I had it set on the lowest DCV setting, I had tried to get a reading off a AA battery at first but I didn't know if that battery was good. Then I thought, oh I know a battery that has a charge for sure! I took the bike battery off and stuck the probes to the + and -...

    Excellent review of eBike law

It's interesting that a legal ebike has to cut off power at 20 mph but a car has no restriction on its power over the legal speed limit

Bearings. All you could ever wish to know about...

Years ago a friend of mine came to me all exited about the new(Japanese made)bearing in his skateboard wheels. I didn't get what the big deal was. So he demonstrated by turning the board over and spinning one of he wheels. It just kept going and going. We stared at it for what seemed like a...

    EBike With Hub Battery

The site says they are showing it at a wine festival/event thing and a police conference. They will probably try to sell to military too if they are marketing to law enforcement. I guess they won't be selling it to any cops in Florida since they're illegal there...

Looks like a Wavecrest Tidalforce. It's from the same area of northern VA too.

What is Everyone using for a sidestand?

The one I got from mirosier is great I've been meaning to ask him about it. I'm pretty sure it's designed as kick stand/torque arm and it locks in the down position. Because it's right there at the rear motor it supports the weight well and the locking feature is great. The bike can't roll...

    Modded Milwaukee V28's not charging

Three of my five remaining battery packs are now failing to charge. I get the flashing red light when I put them in the charger. The icons on the charger indicate that the flashing red light is a temperature/ too hot indication but, in my experience the past few weeks in the hot Virginia...

    Cross-Canada by Ebike

Justin, you are the man. This is so exciting! The rig, the journey, the controller... Good luck and take care. I'll be reading your blog (edit: if you have/set up one(?)) and talking to people about this story for sure.

I was thinking it would be nice if I could rotate or reposition my cells to spread out the stress on the end cells.

Costco deep cycle marine batteries for longe range?

I saw a picture on here somewhere of someone who had an xtracylce with racks where the pantiers(sp?) are to hold 4 18AH Sla batteries 2 on each side. Assuming he's running 36v that's 36AH! I think about that system. Trailers seem cumbersome to me. I think it was someone in the UK. Anyone...

what do you guys think of this kit?

I'm pretty sure that's a Cyclone kit. If you search for it on this site you will find lots of info. I never read an concerns about getting sucked into the chain by your pant leg. I guess it would depend on your pants though.

IEEE Sprectrum: Our First Electric Cars...May Be Trucks

Good story. Thanks. I wish the power company here in Virginia would be more interested in this. Instead they are building a coal fired plant and wanting to add another reactor to the nuclear plant.

Beware Dick's Sporting Goods! They sabotage bikes!

I appreciate this story even though there are no Dicks within riding distance for me. :) This should be on the consumerist site/blog. Then it should be dugg/voted up on digg.com and similar sites. I can think of some good headlines for this story.... I can image the comments now: What do...

    Milwaukee v28 Charger Fault

N,o I had 6 packs. Mirosier, who built it, took the bottom of the cases of and hot melted and taped them together in pairs. I had one pack I sucked dry(not technical either) and wouldn't charge. But then I put my sla charger on the other pack in that pair of packs and killed it, so no. That...

    Milwaukee v28 Charger Fault

I found out the red light with that sound means the pack is drained(or has somehow gone) beyond the lowest point that the BMS can recognize. I say this because I was able to "jump start" my totally drained pack with my 12v sla charger for about 5-10 mins and now it's charging fine on the...
