CYC PHOTON

Good luck...does Flipsky provide theirs? (or all the various other companies and groups basing their products off VESC, including some here on the forum?)

Though I am not following Flipsky story of late, but AFAIU - initially Flipsky did not provide the firmware source & Benjamin Vedder (or his representative) contacted them & Flipsky took down the product (75100) from their website & later on it reappeared on website. It seems initial (other than jaykup reverse engineering the hardware config file) solution was to use one of the existing hardware configuration (I think 75 300 h/w) in the upstream VESC and modify configuration (like turnoff phase filter). Currently Flipsky 75100 has some instructions regarding firmware.

Did a quick look on the latest VESC sources, it seems support for 75100 as well as their younger siblings are present in upstream VESC repo. Some of other boards like Shaman's cheap focer support is also present in VESC repo. Further I am seeing Luna BBSHD & M600 support code in VESC repo!

Undocumented SW102 display menu option.

My display shows an extra menu item below the "Info" setting. I can't find any reference to it in the manual or any of the demos I've found so far. Can anyone explain this?

The extra setting is "Gear" and the options are Level 3, 5, 9. Description is "P-SET", default setting is Level 3.

I agree with @Atak_Snajpera - assist levels. But who knows what happens if you set it to 5 or 9, with the "3 levels" only Photon. I've yet to try it on my 750C'd Photon.

I'm pretty sure your bike won't explode if you change that value...
I think you're right (again), but that bike is upside-down on the repair stand. I'm swapping bars and stem for the nth time and wiring up some add-ons (headlight and on-the-bar USB power for a map GPS), fed from fused battery power - a pokey, hand-crimped, hand-assembled custom harness job.

Fiddle, fiddle, fiddle.

I also wrote up a response to CYC on the DS103 display after they asked me what I didn't like about it. CYC seems to respond to at least some of our inquiries.

Number of assists?
Probably, but "P-SET" and the use of the term "Level" (not plural) would be strange way to label that. In any case, the CYC Ride Control app wouldn't allow the user to set any parameters for additional levels anyway. Why is it on my SW102 but not others?

I've changed this to 5 on mine. All it does is divide up the 9 total assist levels into 3 or 5.

You'll notice on the ride control app if its set to 9, that when you change power levels only one red bar of the 9 will fill per click. if you set it to 5, two red bars will fill. If you set it to 3, three red bars will fill.

its just giving you more fine power selection.

This is on a Photon motor with normally just three levels? Have you since gone into the BT app and looked at the three (maybe now 5!) power sliders for the torque assist and throttle?

UPDATE: I set my SW102 display to 5 levels, but I still only see the two sets of three power level sliders on the app settings page. I can't road-test right now.

yes this is a photon motor. just checked the app and it still shows only 3 sliders as well. I'm thinking maybe the assistance levels are just a percentage of your 3 sliders you have set, and that the 3 sliders actually correspond to the highest assistance level power output as a range. Thoughts? the relationship with the sliders and the assistance level has been confusing me as well.

I think I mentioned this in my review of the app on the Play Store. It isn't clear which scales are absolute values (like power), which are percentage or scale; is assist level a percentage or a multiple? Judging by the variations in presentation between different pages, the app is clearly a work in progress and I suspect CYC are themselves pretty stretch with resources at present.

At least it exists, some of the others don't. The Photon is really good. The app will get fixed I'm sure.
okay , making changes to production line is expensive and takes time , making changes in code is nothing to compare . especially when you see free projects with ppl working for free and doing this in spare time ... and cyc is charging money , good money

Ordering a CYC Phantom is like ordering a car. Current wait time is 3 months.

Looking at state of older app for bac855 (wrong units, wrong labels etc) I Would not expect any fixes in new app.

Simple 5 or 9 levels of assists in firmware is like a Rocket science for them.

Last error should be 12Nm/Volt, but where did the 12 come from?

If this hasn't been corrected on the Photon, this could explain the crazy human power levels it is displaying. No way am I ever going to be capable of the +200W the Photon shows :)

I did real life test.
I found flat bike lane and then I was checking human power at 20km/h , 25km/h , 30km/h.

According to Cycling Wattage Calculator my power levels should be around 75W for 20km/h,120W for 25km/h,200W for 30km/h. Values reported by cyc app were regardless of the speed always ~6 times too high.

CYC Photon component update - a new 42T chainring has been announced, at $58 usd. This fleshes out the current chainring tooth count a little more, to 34t ($128), 38t ($58), 42t ($58), and 52t 50t ($93). All of the rings are now available for sale individually, along with a new lockring tool ($10).

The pricing range may be a good indicator for future replacement parts pricing, we'll see.

Those prices do not have shipping cost and VAT+duty. So 42T will cost ~130 euro and 52T ~200 euro.

and also let's not forget about 3 months of wait time for spare part...

Sorry, I don't have VAT & duty costs here in the U.S., at least not as separate, distinct costs.

So, how much for say, the Lekkie 42T where you are (with VAT+duty+shipping)? Here it's $99 USD plus approx $15 shipping.

I'm just trying to give/get a sense of comparable pricing for motor kits and the related, OEM or aftermarket parts.

All of the chainrings are listed as available from the parts store, sold with replacement covers, so not ideal as replacement parts where the cover probably won't be needed. At least CYC are giving options. Other prices (like $18 for the BSA/Pressfit adapters) seem reasonable, as is $10 for the lockring tool. Shipping might make that quite expensive so more local dealers are required.

I requested a replacement speed sensor magnet (missing from my kit) and I received it in under 2 weeks so CYC are quite responsive; they did ship almost immediately. Similarly, their shipping of a battery was quite quick, and far faster than I was expecting. Which makes me think there are delays due to production capacity, maybe that will improve with scale.

Interesting that CYC won't/can't sell to China, Hongkong or Macau.
