I am doing a new build and using the Shengyi motor and Lishui controller that would come with my frame as a complete bike. I have the company’s literature and specs indicating that just about any Yolin display will work with the controller, including any one of these three YL81C variants.

I can’t find anything that says what the difference is, like maybe the A is black and white or something? From what I gather they are all protocol 5 and there doesn’t seem to be any other brand I can find as an alternative which doesn’t really matter but if anyone has any general knowledge or opinions I’d love to hear it.

A quick search doesn't find any useful data on those displays, so my guess is as good as yours. ;)

The manual for the B version shows up in a few places, but not the others, so can't make any comparisons that way either.

If you can find the Yolin company get them to respond to you by providing manuals for each one, you can compare them directly that way (but I wouldn't try asking them for the differences; that is probably too complex a question to get across and get a useful answer back. )

You could check with the assorted open-source firmware project(s) for the Lishui controllers, and see if there are specific displays they use or recommend, as those are likely documented better.

I always search exhaustively before I ask any questions here, I see the abuse other people take for not doing that. It doesn’t even matter really because according to the the bike manufacturer's specs any of the three are applicable and I want the simplest thing I can get, so it’s not like I’m trying to avoid the most basic and devoid of frills model if the difference is just about extra features and not weird subset protocols.

Nice to hear from you again, I have more questions and I’m sure there will be more to come once I get all my stuff. I have the motors and controllers and my frames are already in customs after coming ocean freight in just 14 days.

I found a battery that ships from the States from UPP that seems like it might actually be the same battery the bike manufacturer is using and price gouging like crazy with. I know it’s a little far flung but there are a couple little anomalies that might even make you wonder. I’m really loathe to buy the manufacturer’s battery and get hosed down twice with the price and the ridiculous shipping, half of which is obviously just an extension of the price. That whole routine is getting really tiresome. Like I’m not buying 5 $50 rims with free shipping dude, how about 10 $20 dollar rims and $50 shipping 🙄
