The future of our forum - facebook versus web forums

I've been off this site for a while and pretty much away from open source since it became so easy to create a blog on google blogger for free that is so much easier and friendlier to manage than something like wordpress... which like phpbb is getting pretty long in the tooth. I recently got back...

20 inch full suspension street build (now with twin motors)

I've built a few ovens including tempering ovens for glasswork.. furnace for molten glass... and a lower temp oven for blowing sheet acrylic into a canopy. I dont know the temp required for tempering aluminum but would be much cheaper and easier to build out of sheet metal with insulation...

    Yet another electric trike

Unfortunately it was due in part to my own negligence... I had burned some grass at the end of my shop early that morning... it was a very small amount and appeared to be out... had checked on it again later and appeared to be fine. I came out about 2:30 in the afternoon and smoke was coming...

    Yet another electric trike

On November 30th I had a fire that burned my shop to the ground.... 25 plus years of collectables including everything from a potters wheel... a hand loom... a world war 2 vintage motor generator type 250 DC welder and all manor of things in between up in smoke. While you can never replace a...

What would the best full suspension bike be (features)?

To my mind full suspension implies off road use and not a commuter. I prefer the tube frame look with the boxed area for batteries. Mid drive for sure... Dont really care for pedals... particularly when they are just to make it appear to be a bicycle. My old butt would prefer a motocross seat...

    At lowes yesterday

I saw something new at lowes yesterday. A riding mower with what appeared to be brushed DC motors on the blades. It was a bit odd because the front looked more like an ATV. It had dual a arms front suspension and at first I thought it might be all electric but it had a gas engine with a...

    Oldster turns standup n00b

I was looking at these not long ago for possible RC motor drive. Has disc brakes and front suspension. Drive through sprocket mounted where rear disc brake mounts. edit: Looks like the link I provided is broken.... here is a pic of the kick scooter I was referring to.

5 hp motor: highest reliability, highest efficiency

I would just put a water ski on the front of the death bike.... a fat sand digger tire on the back with paddles on it.... a flying start from the bank.... and don't slow down. Could be the first motorcycle to pull a wheelie on water.

5 hp motor: highest reliability, highest efficiency

I'm curious to know how much reduction you had when running the RC motors. With props that large even with a low pitch I'm thinking it would take a minimum of 50 to 1 and probably more. It does not take much prop at all to properly load a 5 hp motor. Take a look at the prop size on the Torqeedo...

5 hp motor: highest reliability, highest efficiency

I too am a big fan of wooden boats and boat building.... in particular stitch and glue type contruction. I've wanted to visit the area where this event is held and the Okume Fest put on by Chesapeake Light Craft. I have a couple of hulls in work and want to build a poor mans version of a Pacific...

5 hp motor: highest reliability, highest efficiency

Those are huge props... would take a ton of reduction... I've had good luck with 48 volt 100 amp esc's on 6354 size motors... you've got to be geared right. Those props look homemade... are they? A couple of 8085 motors might be the ticket.

    Advise on setup 30m@30mph

I recently put one of the 1000 watt 48 volt ebay motors on a mountain bike. I have 15ah at 48 volts. My other build is a recumbent trike with an RC motor on it and I have been surprised to find that it is more efficient than the hub motor. It is about a 2500 watt motor with serious acceleration...

5 hp motor: highest reliability, highest efficiency

I'd agree with that... which class are you planning on running in? The rules on the site say 8 KW limit. In the class 2 they expect the boats to be on plane for the entire race. Was your boat able to plane with your setup? Curious what RC motor setups you have tried? I like the dragon tail...

How can I charge my E-bike useing a inverter

Pure sine wave is what is in your wall outlet. What voltage is your charger made for?

    Ebike/Moped Gang Cruise Video

I rode for the first time with a couple of guys in my neighborhood that have regular bikes with the add on gas engines from ebay. I was riding a 48 volt 1000 watt hub motor on a bike and was a lot faster in most every way except going up hill. Was a great ride though and great weather too...

    cheap 18s powermeter ?

I dont really know what a turnigy power meter is but I've found these things pretty useful. They only read voltage but will plug into the balance connector up to 8s and reads total voltage and then displays each cells voltage. They also have an alarm feature that you can set the low voltage...

    Moon Lander Anti Gravity Machine

I may indeed make a shaft for it... I just got in some 10mm and 12 mm drill rod... it was a tad oversize or replacing shafts in the motors. At least the 12mm was.... hadnt tried the 10 yet. Just may order some of the heat treatable variety and the precision ground.

    Moon Lander Anti Gravity Machine

Mainly just thinking out loud on the cross lacing. I just ran across concept a few days ago. Wondered if anyone had tried it for an application like this. On this bike I will probably use the stock hub and rim with a chain sprocket in place of the disc brake. Probably going to put an 8085 motor...

    Moon Lander Anti Gravity Machine

Getting a little closer to getting back on this. Got the motor order I had been looking for and now having some pulleys made to order in China. I just saw something on a bike parts site about some BMX rims that were designed to be cross laced. This is where the spokes go from one side of the...

    Mongoose 20" FAT build

I just saw something on a bike parts site about some BMX rims that were designed to be cross laced. This is where the spokes go from one side of the hub to the opposite side of the rim from where they would normally go. Wondering if that could be done on a rim not specifically designed for that.

    RC motor buy

I'm lucky to live near the home of one of if not the largest RC fly in in this country. In September they have electric only fly in thats pretty small compared to the big one in May. I checked it out Saturday at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff SC. There are tons of you tube videos of it and...

    RC motor mid-drive plans. Thoughts?

The rendering is killer... curious what software you are using for that? Before I tried to create a gear reduction from scratch I would try to find something off the shelf that could be adapted. I'm looking at a planetary gear reduction thats off a car starter motor. Starter motor these days are...

    RC motor buy

Here are some pics of the innards of the 12080. Its design does not lend itself to traction use so much as the other motors. I've not seen a lot of info on this site about them so here is a look. It has a 12mm shaft that steps down to 10 mm where it exits the front of the motor. It has double...
