Technically I should post this in the non-hub motor forum I suppose

One larger fan (about 750mm across) gear the motor and propeller drive for most efficient speed and press on. Yeah, I would use a propeller guard for obvious reasons and it would be a simple drive train. No worries about overheating electric motors, spinning hub motors in the dropouts, gearing high speed motors way down and all those challenges.
Could I go 25 to 30 MPH with a single prop? Attach the rig to mountain bikes, recumbent bikes, row boats and the like.
Think the cops would notice?

Does anyone know of a good motor and prop combination for pushing big stuff at relatively low speeds? Direct drive for simplicity. Just go with a monster turnigy and a 18" prop? Its got to be more complicated than that
I'm going to be putting it on a kayak. Solves to many problems....no holes below the water line, ~20lbs saved by ditching the trolling motor, virtually zero drag when off, and not limited by design to a low speed like most trolling motors either. Its so elegant to just bypass power transmission issues and just push against the air directly
I wonder if 5kw will get a kayak up on a plane?
Might suck if you top a hill and find the road curves quickly away, though, or it's a T-intersection with a high concertina fence.Whiplash said:I like the idea of having fixed wings for little glide sessions! Make the hill tops a LOT more fun!
