Getting some worrying feedback from my CycleAnalyst (direct plug-in type) and was hoping someone could provide some advice...

Setup consists of 72v Headway lifepo4 pack, Golden Motor 1kw hub (not the pie) and what I think to be a Lyen 4110 controller (Hyena to confirm  )

The only settings I have put into the CycleAnalyst are...
  • Units set to KPH
  • Max Speed set to 99KPH
  • Volts Limit set to 65v
  • Max Amps set to 99a

Now the controller has been programmed to max at 40amps BUT the cycle analyst is showing a peak of 161amps on take off. As acelleration continues, the amps taper off to about 99amps due to the Max Amps being set at 99 and limiting is starting to occur. You can feel the bike bounce off the limit even though it still winds up it just feels like top end grunt is severely limited.

With the CycleAnalyst disconnected the bike is much faster and there is no limiting feeling as felt before.

Now, I suspect the CA is reading the amperage incorrectly but I dont know why - all ADVANCED settings are default. Can anyone with experience with setting up Cycle Analysts on similar gear please give me some hints as to WTF is going on?

I have a feeling the resistance value for the current sensing shunt OR the poles setting may be causing this but I have no idea of the resistance value and even less about the number of hall effect transitions per rotation of the wheel!!!!

help

There is a controller setting, I think it's called "block-time" or something similar.

It largely eliminates the setting for the shunt-base current limit for a user-programmed amount of time (generally a second or so). It's to help ensure electric motors get spinning in the right direction in situations like starting on a hill.

The Rshunt value in your CA setup needs to be adjusted... try 1.000 at first, should be in the ballpark.. Increase the value to lower the amp readings until you get into 40 amps peak..

Got to 3.150 and she sits perfectly on 40amps - thanks a million Ypedal!
I now have full power AND a correctly functioning CA!

Time for another lap of the park...
