Aprilia Enjoy

I finally solved the slipping chain in high gear problem. It ended up being the limit screw needing more adjustment than I gave it.I had to get someone with better eyesight than me to check it ( the missus is called on in these situations). Those sprockets and stuff have to be in spot on alignment to work properly.

Hi Friends.
I just got myself an Aprilia Enjoy racing. I'm after a new controller.
please can someone point to a link where I could get a compatible controller from?

I have a spare 36v 10ah lipo battery which iI'm hoping to use. so should I be looking at 36v 300w controller?
What about a 36v 800w 20a 30a controller? would this give me more top speed and more torque?

what do you guys recommend?
Your help is much appreciated.
Cheers
Kersley

G'day Kersley,

I got your message but I am not the person to ask as I do not have the technical skills.I simply read all the threads and then copied what I had read from the "techy's".
Someone better than me will answer your questions.

Cheers,
Tony.

Hi Kersley, welcome to the "Enjoy" owners club !
If you plan on using the 36v battery, then yes i would suggest you go with a 30A controller..assuming your battery can handle that kind of load ?.. that will give you 1kw potential and a fair boost in speed.
If you read some of the previous posts on this thread you will find the controller models some of us have used successfully.
Be aware though, that none of these will be simple "plug and play" swaps, you will need to do some mods to your wireing to install the new controller, but it has all been documented.

from a previous post..
( mine is a Yi-Yun YK 40, with a 28A current limit ) but there are several similar but all with subtle variations.
The makers web site may be usefull reading ..http://www.yi-yun.com/product.asp
Be aware also, many of these will not allow the brake cut out to function with out changing the levers, and will most certainly not operate the torque & speed sensors or the LED battery status unit. Few of the connectors will match those on the bike.

I suggest the lbd14 conrtoller, also search lbd14 on ebay as postage often cheaper.
http://tncscooters.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=41_73&product_id=159

It'll take up to fifty volts. I run 8s, 33.6 volts which is plenty.
Read this whole thread and you will see my voltmeter mod. Strongly suggest this as the low voltage cutout on the lbd14 is too low for 8s.

If you can invest the time read this whole thread...

Hello boys and girls.
I have striped my Aprilia ejoy sport motor down thanks to Samd..
The main gear part number AP8000149 is badly worn and needs replacing. I can get one for £78.00 from a UK dealer.
Also it would need a new aftermarket controller. I had plans to put this bike on the road and make it fast like what Samd did to his..
Now i'm thinking of just selling it and moving on to my other project. my hybrid with the 960w Cyclone mid mount kit.
If anyone is interested in making me an offer. please get in touch. i'm based in London UK kersleyv@hotmail.com

Well its a pretty quick fix if you change the controller and gear, leave it NimH perhaps, should be easier to sell...

Geez, it's been quiet around here for a while.I have decided to open up the gearbox on the most recent bike I bought. It has been making a hell of a noise when it gets warm.It is okay for about 8 klms and then it starts to get noisy. Not sure where it is exactly but thought it time to open the gearbox up.
I have got the motor out of the bike and have got the cranks off ( I bought the right tool)
What do I remove next and how?
Please help guys.I have read the posts back a few pages but still not sure what comes off next, for example, how to remove the chainring assembly.

Cheers in advance,
Tony.

If you have the motor and gearbox still as a pair but off the bike thats a good start. I wouldnt pull the motor off the gearbox as there isnt much to see and the carbon brushes on springs can be a little fiddly to reassemble. Not hard, but why add to the frustration.

The key is to get the gearbox casing apart.

Looking down thru the chainring you will see (I think three) long capscrew bolts with hex key heads. They hold the crankcase together. You should be able to undo them and prise the two halves of the gearbox apart. There is a small gap or two in the casting where you can insert a flat screwdriver a little and twist to get the castings apart I think.

Then you should have the gearbox/motor in one hand, and this cluster/gearbox side casing in the other.

You should be able to follow the changeover from this point:

I can send you my wrench. I need to order another gear - want to combine orders TOTOABH and save on postage?

Hey once you get the two halves apart, you might want to check the gearbox start nut for loose play on the other side of the axle. Maybe it is contributing to a loose drivetrain once it all heats up.

Thanks Sam,

I had jumped the gun and removed the motor from the gearbox but not to the point of seeing any brushes, I can only see a little gear.I got the two halves of the gearbox apart but ran out of time but couldn't see at first glance any wear.I will have a closer look tomorrow and check the "star" nut.On reflection I should've checked the star nut before I took the motor/gearbox out of the frame.Maybe that was the prob. I am more than happy to combine an order with you .Sounds like it would be a good idea to have a spare gear anyways.Let me know when you want to do it .

Cheers,
Tony.

I had a pretty good look in the light of day and could not see any noticeable wear on any of the gears etc (maybe it is one of the bearings? I think I will buy a castle nut wrench and see if that nut needs tightening ( I can't feel any end play by moving the shaft that the crank fits onto).

Sounds like a plan - I'm in no hurry to order. There is a couple of circlips in there too from memory that stop stuff sliding up and down the shaft...

I am happy to get a gear as a spare whenever you want to go ahead and order Sam.Were you going to get the parts from the same place you got them last time? I emailed the people on Ebay who are selling the genuine Aprilia parts in the UK and they don't have the gear (model no. 8000149). Have you thought any more about substituting the Bofeili motor instead of the Aprilia motor?

Cheers,
Tony.

I think i mentioned before.. on mine , it was the bearings that support the motor pinion (little gear) that had worn.
I think you have to split the end cap off the motor to get at them ( then you will experience the fiddly brush problem).
but those bearings are local supply. The clutch one way roller bearing is also in there.

I am glad you mentioned this as the more I think about it the more that makes sense. I noticed when I got back from a ride the noise was most apparent when I "revved" the throttle whilst stationery so I guess that little gear would be the main thing spinning at that point? I have got a good auto electrician that I can call on if I stuff up the brushes. Good onya Sam.

Funnily enough I didn't have much trouble with the brushes, I was able to get a flat ended screwdriver in enough to hold them in place whilst I put the cap back on.Not sure how to tell if the bearings are worn or not so I have gone this far I may as well change them.It really does sound like they might be the culprits.Would they make a noise when they get hot if they are buggered?

Any synthetic grease capable of 120 degrees or more would do - synth stops those rubber seals wearing prematurely.

Thanks Sam,

One of the bearings in the motor is buggered,so I am looking forward to replacing it and putting it all back together.Hopefully it will all work again.I was surprised at the small size of all those little gears etc. I will let you all know how I go.

Cheers,
Tony.

Its not til you gring flats on the gears to clamp them for unscrewing that you see just how hard they are.

Took my bike downtown for a stealth run last night. Hit the skate ramps for the first time. Warm night with noone about.

Just as well as i hesitated on a ramp and the backlash snapped my chain. Which was well worn anyway. Need to go find a new one...

I got two new bearings in the motor, put some more grease into the gearbox parts I inspected and then put it all back together.I had mentioned a few months back that I had had trouble getting one of the bolts that hold the motor/gearbox into the frame on another bike. This time I removed the chain protector (par no.25) and that made it a hell of a lot easier to get the nut onto the bolt.I had a bit of trouble getting the cranks back on ( you have to really put a lot of torque onto the bolts to get the cranks to go onto their spindles.)Anyway it is all back together and working so can't wait to go out for a ride tomorrow and see if the noise has been cured.Bloody better be!

I went out this morning and rode pretty aggressively for about 15 k's and all went well on the motor/gearbox front,no noises any more. The only problem was the pedal on the right crank started to come off just before home and it looks like it has cross threaded a bit. Bugger! THis bike has been mucked around with from the previous owner and there are problems everywhere. When I opened up the motor/gearbox I could tell someone had already been in there as the motor was scratched where someone had used a screwdriver to prise the motor/gearbox apart and then I noticed a spring washer and rubber "o' ring missing on one of the long motor bolts. One of the front fork seals is buggered too.A good job I didn't pay too much for it.
