I'm not finding any... it's between a hub motor for a 26" rim or a currie 1000w 36v motor($109) with a freewheel for me it seems.

If I was buying a hubmotor right now, I would get one from

Truth. The site is excellent. Danny is responsible, smart and good to meet this way.
I did not know of ampedbikes before.
Now I will be a booster. Plain people can get ebiked with little work and full confidence that they'll be happy.

Way to go, Danny! More ebikes for The People! 8)

Wishing you all the best of success,

r.

I'm looking for something fast.. all all saw there were 500w hub motors..(did I miss something?) and somehow I don't consider $360+ "cheap'"..

Aunt Barbara for humor. Don't hit me. I Spam my own "quality postings", ha ha, as a joke:

You Get What You Pay For (or less!)

Crazy humor. Related to ebike parts? YES. Greasy!

e-noob, if you hurry, someone is selling there nine continent motor in the "Items for Sale" part for $200, unopened, brand new. I don't know if it's still for sale but might check there.

hightekbikes.com has some kits that are pretty cheap.

if you want something really fast , over 30 mph? , you'll have to spend a little more money probably.

Only ones that I know that easily go over 30 mph are

5303 hub at 48 v
nine continent at 60v
5304 hub at 60v

and some guys have gotten the goldemotor up to 40 mph + with 72v or more.

yeah I got a 5303 crystalyte, I just haven't installed it yet. I can't wait. I just got my current bike up to 31 mph with the new tires that I put on. 25 mph is pretty good but 30 + is even better. Man, it was so fun today.

Here's something to consider, if a decent motor for 350 or so, including controller and throttle is high for you, wait till you start wanting a battery that goes farther than the 6 miles you get out of sla's at full throttle!

If your trips will be less than 10 miles per charge, the only cheap route for hubmotors are the brushed hubs. Lurk long enough on Ebay and you might get a deal on a used one. In the for sales, I have a used but good WE BD36 kit for $175 including shipping to 48 states. Once in a while an ebay deal can beat that, or a new brushed crystalyte from ebikes-ca is an option. New BD36 kits are pretty rare, but you can still get the motor only at some WE vendors sites. About 200 for the motor only, and then another 100 or so for a throttle and controller, and you are much better off to just get an ampedbikes or High tech bikes kit.

Just about the only good thing about the BD36 motors, is at 48v , they go about 28-29 mph. After about 10 miles at full throttle, the brushed hubs get kinda hot, so you have to be carefull about hot weather and long rides. Brushless motors are worth the extra money for sure!

Whats your budget for the entire build, and do you already have a bike for the conversion? If you don't have a bike yet, wait...there are some interesting cost/performance options that may be frame style-specific.

Is you profile mostly hills (slightly steep or very steep?) or flat terrain?

What range do you need to start with (can be upgraded later after conversion costs finished)?

Danny's kits at amped bikes are 20-MPH at 36V. If the motor is wound for a higher top speed there will be a trade-off in torque (if voltage doesnt change) If you upgrade to 48V (most eventually do) The Ampedbiked hub should provide 24-25 MPH on flats.

Many people start off with lead/acid batteries because they are so cheap, and begin saving up money for the upgrade. After about a year, the batteries wear out, and you can get a pack that is lighter and less bulky such as LiMH, NiCD, or Lithium. at that time you can also upgrade the voltage to 48V or more (may require a new controller)

Right now I would recommend very seriously to look at the two Grinhill-drive "non-hub" threads. Do a lot of homework, there's a lot of info on this site.

colnsider a bafang geared motor.... $300.00 laced into a rhyno rim.... holmes hobbies... John is knowlegeable and VERY helpfulll.....he laces the rims himself.... you can power this baby to your credit card limit

Find a used BD36 kit for $200 and start with 48v of SLA, then save for lifepo4, that's what I did.

BD36 will do 27-29mph on 48v. Switch to lifepo4 just makes it travel longer at that speed.
