BBS02B controller upgrade?

So if you buy a BBS02B your throttle is really just an on/off button, and apparently it's been this way for years. So is it possible to upgrade the controller to something that works correctly, without breaking the bank?

These folks want $484, and they don't even mention the "B" version. This is a large cost relative to the original kit (basically more than a new motor!), and it's unclear if it would even work:

This controller mentions "You will be able to use a throttle only mode in PAS0 unlike inexpensive units purchased directly from China and not custom program", but it's only available for version A so it's useless to me:

Are there any other available controllers for the BBS02B that don't completely suck, and aren't ridiculously expensive? If not, this is another reason not to buy a BBS02/BBSHD kit and go with a hub motor:

I'm really surprised by how flawed the BBS02B is in practice, when you buy one and actually use the thing. It seems the popularity of the BBS02 seems to be actually based on the merits of the previous BBS02A model, not the B model.

I can get you a better BAC855 for much less than that.. like at least 100$ less.. turnkey... and I answer emails. Lol.

there is not much different between the 02A model and the 02B model.

That Luna controller is still with the bad programming, what i call the "Bafang Lurch".... just better FETS in it...

I am currently changing my BBSo2a into a BAC855 bike. Screw that controller. Imma gonna just do it. I chose that one cause I am interested in the program ability.

BBS02 is all talked up hype that breaks down at the first bit of real power. People love them though.. ( I think it is first ebike/bicycling love, not BBSxx love) hey I did for the first 200 miles until my drive broke. I fixxed it.. but yeah the controller is anemic... Any real controller that isnt all weird like the Bafng should be better. they tried to fix it with a larger roller sprag and some differnt programming in the "B" model.. but still anemic I hear/see.

Anyway, following this thread for more input.

has a number of threads discussing using the PHaserunner with various BBSxx versions. Not a cheap way to do things, but it is a very small controller and is very feature rich, so you can probably set it up to do anything at all you want it to.

Yup - that's more or less my take on the situation too. If you're new to ebikes, BBS02 will probably seem wonderful (because *anything* compared to nothing is probably great).

I want to upgrade the controller, but so far I've not found any compelling alternatives. For an alternative to be compelling, it needs to have a reasonable price ($100-$200) and actually be in stock.

Wait a minute.... The BBSO2B Throttle is... "Like an On and Off Switch"? I have a BBS02B 48V 750W Mid-Drive and the Throttle is Definitley NOT like an On and Off Switch. It works like any throttle I've ever used. The more you twist, the faster you go. PAS is like an On an Off switch, just at about half-power of full throttle. You start pedaling, and the motor kicks in. Just at about half-power.

Is it possible I have an upgraded controller? Or maybe my my kit was programmed to be the way it is? I'm confused....

Please clarify, if you can.

Thanks in advance.
