Bighit 8t mac

Yes they are amazing little motors, I love mine, you can of course run them at higher power but have to accept that they wont last as long, to be honest I have not had any problems with heat in the windings other than the solder melting on the joints, my problems at high power have always been the one way bearing and the gears.

Don’t be tempted to fit any metal gears though, they sound terrible and don’t help, even fitting one doesn’t help, lightly lubed nylon gears work just fine, I have taken my bike off road many times and use it for work every single day, the motor in my work bike has over 12,000 miles on it and has only ever had 1 x clutch go on it, it has always been run at 50-60V 40A, old school crystallite controller analogue controller and Magura throttle, the old school xlyte controllers have very smooth ramps on the throttle, just what you need to help keep the gears in good shape.

I have 4 x geared motors on different bikes including my electric BMX, I have an Xlyte X5 direct drive motor on one bike, that’s a beast but it is dog heavy and I much prefer the lightness of the geared motors, if you know how to treat them the BMC or MAC geared motor is a fantastic motor for an assist, all out speed freaks may need to look elsewhere like Chromo or fat DD Xlytes.

Again good luck with the repair and much praise for a very nice looking machine.

I have three grey gears here- you can have those and I'll grab the ones you've ordered from Paul whenever they get in?

The only downside is one of the bearings is bad- has a minor click in it and I was going to put a decent bearing in before using the gear. Easy enough and if you bring your old set around we could do the whole job here. You may have to drink a beer with me tho...

Let me know- I'm in Basso. I'll pm you my mobile.

Thx Man, super kind offer, the es community is so cool

Well catch up for that beer next ride :D

HI deffx you and John

Have some cool rides.

What would you suggest if I went a gear hub on a Ekross Vector frame maybe for single track work not too much up and down and 60kph max

Thanks in advance Kiwi :D

Hi kiwi,

I wouldn't really recommend a geared motor for serious off-road duties, it's bound to strip the teeth on the planetary gears eventually, not that it ever happened to me personally

I really liked the Mac 8t on 15s lipo@40amps, but I'm pretty light 70kg, the bike was quite light and I understood the motors limitations and rode accordingly

I need to update this thread, I sold this bike, the bearings in the Mac died/disintegrated with the new owner, we replaced them and soon after the halls failed, he now has a new 10t Mac

I missed my bike instantly I sold it, lol, I have another bighit now with a bbs02

Thanks Deff

I really liked your build I think I'm abscessed I have 2 bikes and starting a third its like trying to have one bike that does it all lol.

Cheers Kiwi

a pic of my latest build :D

I'd recommend the gearmotor if you keep the batteries light, you're gonna have a good time.
I've cooked a lot of motors, havent busted gears in a very long time...

Kepler's fighter is still going fine apparently.

Agreed, for a lighter motor, torquey, 48ish volts build, I like geared motor, I even like the sound, not hard to have a spare set of gears and clutch handy

But for a heavier vetrix, kiwi doing 4 to 5 foot drops, I just didn't want to recommend it, due to not being as abuse proof as a DD

Pic of big hit with bbs? How do you like it

Haven't really done allot of km's, to give you my final verdict
Recently did some programming which much improved it
Also fitted a twist throttle, after using a left hand thumb throttle for a while, which was just not natural, love the weight distribution, liking the pas function, it can sip amps

I need to work out a battery configuration and mounting to finalize it, probably chop the frame up at some stage

The big question is how robust and reliable these bbs02's are, we will see

To be continued....................... Lol

Thanks Sam interesting stuff definitely food for thought :D

I enjoyed reading your thread deffx - looking forward to your thoughts on the BBS02 once you get some km's on that thing...I initially didn't like the left thumb throttle on my setup either, but its starting to grow on me. I have a half twist on my other bike, and sometimes feel discomfort in my wrist after a ride. Anyways, nice bike and keep the pics comin'!
