Hi all,

I'm about to buy my second e-bike and due to our legislation, I'm bound to 250W / 25km/h versions (no driving licence for some time). Since I'm into something powerfull, the Bosch cx is my favorite. However, I found no info about increasing the voltage of this motor. Anyone got some experience? Is there an overvoltage check implemented in the controller / ecu which prevents modifications? There must be some volts tolerance at least...

Cheers,
pete

You're about to spend $1000 on a bike you think won't be fast enough. Instead, consider spending that money on a used bike and put the electrification components on by yourself. If you do that the budget is enough to get a bike that cruises at 30 KPH all day and sprints to 50 or 60 KPH. Don't waste your time buying a premade ebike if you're not going to be satisfied with the performance as the value for money is really really horrible. Spend a couple hours reading the popular threads on this site and see what people are doing with current technology. Then, if you still have questions, come back and ask for a kit recommendation.

Oh and as far as the regulations go use your wits, don't blast past pedestrians or otherwise piss people off, and always be on the lookout for cops who you should slow down and pedal for. If you do this you will have zero issues riding a "illegal" bike.

Yes, Bosch is very good at limiting your possibilities. You won't be able to use any other battery than the 400Wh and 500Wh packs.

If you want your CX faster you only can use one of the tuning chips. The cheap(about 80e) ones show you half of the speed. So (EU) Bikes can go 50kmh.

I bought one of the advanced ones. They show you the real speed and there is no limit...Riding 48-50kmh on a flat road can be done without getting sweating(29" with Schwalbe Big Apple or marathon supreme)

I don't think the value is so bad. I love the way you can ride this bike(torque sensor), it feels so smooth In Germany I can buy a new Liqrock 500Wh E-MTB with CX for about 1799e. There was a offer for the 2016 modell last week, 1599e

I bought a 1 year old Cube hybrid Stereo 120 SL with 500km for 2450e. look up the components...Fox Suspension(120mm), XT Brakes, SRAM 11x XX1/X01 shifting, Syntace carbon bar, Reverb stealth seatpost ....only the finest parts. very happy with it.
