Okay, there was a recent thread about "will this bike make me look gay", so this is kinda the same and it seemed that the general opinion over on that thread was, "If you like the bike ride it." Well, okay, buuuuuut, what if you are thinking of a hot pink bike and you're in no way gay? I am considering doing the Bike E in hot pink. Why? Well, one, I like the color pink. Two, there aren't many options in the flashy high visibility colors. With apologies to Matt, the canary yellow thing has been done. I could do purple, and a pearlescent purple does appeal to me, but even that just doesn't seem very original. I was looking around the other day for any pink bikes that weren't ridiculously girly (maybe even some cool pink bikes) and about the only thing I came up with was this:

I think this is pretty good, but I think the transition is a little too abrupt and it's not just pink. I am thinking there may be some pink/black combination that might work, but I haven't seen anything that looks like what I think would be cool. So am I nuts, or is it possible to have a hot pink Bike E and still be straight?? Any of you have any pictures of any cool pink bikes I could use for inspiration?? Is there even any such thing as a cool pink bike??

Sorry I can't find it now, but a recent news item about how in China quite a few new drivers are buying pink cars... and that we might see this "trend" for pink vehicles spill over to North America...

So yer just ahead of the curve :)

hot pink->yellow->green could be a neat combo and you could claim it's a fishing theme..especially if you can airbrush some scales. Maybe add a fishing pole sticking up in the back w/ an orange flag. An idea. :)

Then there's pinks that aren't PINK pink...

(Sorry, had to crop this pic as somebuddy wandered into the shot and ruined watt was a perfectly good pic of the bike)

My death race bike will be pink with glitter and streamers.

No joke.

But if Luke gets to relativistic speeds, his bike will look blue coming towards you and simply disappear (shift into the infrared) going away.

Hot pink is great for visibility, especially at the dusk/dawn situations in which it is normally much harder to see bikes. I have a hot pink shirt over the top half of my CrazyBike2's seat back, along with a yellow construction vest, to make it more visible during those times.

I'm about as straight as they come, but you've probably seen my DayGlo Avenger bike pics. :) My new bike, should it ever get done, will be Dayglo in various colors as well. Probably be at least a little pink on there, too. ;)

If you dig it, do it.

Awesome! Okay,I expected to open myself up to ridicule and endless jokes, but it seems like the consensus is that's it's not a terrible idea. Also, it seem like girls like to have their pictures taken with pink bikes, so that might not be a bad thing either! :p

to be absolutely safe from advances and propositions... ride between two Hells Angels on choppers....

I have my doubts about this.

One of my troubles with the autos out there is that a certain number of them are truly condescending. They think we're idiots for riding a bike and some of them come right out and make it clear.

Won't a pink bike magnify this?

Did ya know that a few generations ago baby boys were dressed in pink and girls in blue?

I don't know where you live, but here where I am bicycles are respected more than anyplace I've ever seen. I lived (and rode non-e-bikes) in Houston for many years and yeah, that might have been a problem there, but here I think people are more likely to appreciate it for the symbol of non-conformist individual expression that it would be.

WTF - No unicorns and rainbows!?! Poser...

Pink is in. If anyone gives you trouble, tell them that its for breast cancer awareness.

Indeed, up to the early 20th century pink was for boys. It was very manly, think red junior, and blue was considered more feminine and fluffy.

I'm a proponent of pink riding gear because you will be seen and less likely to be hit by a car. It stands out against background colors more than most.

Looks like you were right Lock. I was thinking today of a bubble gum pink color for the bike and was wanting to find a Pantone # for the color. I Googled "pantone bubble gum pink" and this is what popped up: http://connellinteriors.blogspot.com/2010/12/pantone-announces-2011-color-of.html

There ya go, it's not "pink" it's "honeysuckle"
I have a shirtmaker that turns out mostly white dress shirts but plenty of colours and pinks too and I am not talking a gay clientele! (RDJ,Sly,Hoffman...long list but some of the most powerful shirts in the world.)
