Having ridden a single speed Dahon way more miles than a person should ever ride one and actually getting to like it, I agree the front wheel mount would be the best. The weight of the rider, batteries and motor all on the back would make for a unwieldy combination.
My biggest problem folding was always having to remove the pedals as the large knurled section that is supposed to make it easy to turn never made it easy to turn and I had to use channel locks. Set up and tear down, unpacking and packing, probably took three to four minutes a bike and most of that time was getting the pedals on and off.
But, they did fit in the engine room (boat) and that was nice. If the ebike revolution had started when my wife couldn't ride much anymore I probably would have electrified them rather than go with electric scooters. Probably gone with the Phoenix Sparrow and 36 volts and a easily removable battery pack which goes without saying. The range would have been awesome compared to the scooters.
