Anybody finish this setup? I am curious how torquey it is? I would imagine this would have INSANE torque! Perfect for off road use, and you still get to use your strong bike hubs! This would be killer with the Rolhoff (spelling) hub too!
Spinningmagnets,
I must have missed that post, effin' brilliant, can't believe I didn't think of that before. I want to say that's the holy Grail of monster sprocket. Steel ring mounted to rim with braking surface on the interior. How would you go about mounting the brake? It would be easy on a hardtail, but on a linkage rear suspension could get tricky. Oh well, might just want to use the stock mount and disc. I still want to get a rim mounted sprocket going if anybody wants to mill it.
Question: what kind of steel are disk brakes make out of? Does it matter?
Whiplash,
Thud will be testing his monster sprocket on the racetrack this weekend, I'm sure a full report will follow, hopefully video of him holding a trophy.
Ok, finally got time to fab up the "Top Hat" but not the holes. Here are some pics, this adapter gives me about 3/8" spacing in toward the wheel. If I need more, I will just use spacers. I love this shit!! I did this at work on the lathe, but I found a lathe on Craigslist for $300. Don't know where I would "hide " it though, if you know what I mean.
I'm thinking of becoming a hand model, what do you guys think??
Looks great! You will probably want to do those spacers. I got one of Matt's 130 bcd adaptors and will need spacers to get enough clearance between the brake caliper and the sprocket. It is a similar dimension to my 9C's need for clearance between the motor side cover and the caliper.
I'm telling you D, you're not gonna get any riding in this year. Sorry bro, by the time you get your bike hacked together it's gonna be hot and muggy, you'll get five miles away from home and the rear wheel will get jammed causing you to drag the blasted bike home cursing the whole way about frickin Aussies with thier fab shops and "god given talents" an such.
If you want I can get the guy to make another sprocket with the extra metal, but I can't promise anything on my build as all my shiot has been crammed into the rv/ storage container while we remodel the house. I'm moving along, slowly when I get time. Wish I could take a whole week off, but even if I did, my time would be spoken for I'm sure.
no im in the uk, it doesnt get hot and muggy
you might be right about the jammed wheel tho plenty of time left, although i feel your pain on the time factor
Im waiting for you and thud to post up some monster goodness before i verr that way.
I need a few custom sprockets made preferrably of delrin but alumimum would work well - I need several tooth configurations for various single stage drives on 26 and 20" bikes.
Anyone (etard) capable who would be interested in making up some sprockets or pointing me to the right place to have them made up, I would be greatly appreciative!
They would only work with aluminum and only make batches of at least a dozen. I think the price would have worked out to $50 per sprocket. They are fairly local to me, so if you want me to drop in or pickup an order, let me know. I am in for 2 sprockets if you get a group order going, I just never got enough interest to get the whole dozen.
If I get my company going, I would be interested in getting my own stuff made up! Custom Aluminum Hard anodized Aluminum stuff would really take some weight out of the bike vs the steel I am using for the Proto.
So with Azusa it would be 600 upfront plus s&h for initial delivery + redistribution of 12 with 2 spoken for meaning 10 onhand at 50.00 each?
Anyone else (8 slots open) interested? The price would be 50 + flat rate USPS shipping (boxed, large) within the US (about 14.00) once order fulfilled.
