Hello to you all,
My name is Richard and I am new to this forum.
I live in Belgium although was born in the Netherlands.
I really like this site (forum) for its enormous amount of data and joy-full people who have the same idea regarding transportation in a environmental friendly way (I am not a tree-hugger but certainly try to avoid wasting in any which way).
I just want to post my recumbent to see if there is any comment on my design (good or bad) so that I can improve it in any way.
I start to design this recumbent 5 years ago (in my garage) in a challenge with myself to see if it is possible to let sit my car at home as much as possible.
I work in the Netherlands so the distance I have to ride with my bike every day is around 64Km (40 miles round trip), it takes 1 hr to get to work and one to get back so the average speed is 32Km but that is all included (stop for traffic lights, avoid being hit, taking corners/curves etc etc).
The top speed is around 54Km (33.5 ml/hr) with the currently set current limit.
It is driven by a out-runner (set to max 1Kw), battery pack weighs 6.3Kg and contains 643W/hr (theory) and in practice I get 625W/hr which gives me a range of appr 57Km with a speed of 41Km/hr (25 ml/hr). The range increases with lower speed to a theoretical value of 110Km (theoretical because I never tried it with lower speeds once you get hooked on high speed bike riding you never want to go back to snail speed).
The recumbent has a 14 speed auto-up switch gearbox and is fully suspended so you can take road bumps with full speed.
The estimated weight of the entire bike is around 37Kg (estimated because I don,t have a descent scale at home and don,t want to spent money on buying one (yes I know I am Dutch). Myself weighs around 95Kg and I can load around 10Kg in the tail bag.
After almost 26000km on the clock and with difficulties along the route (it is after all a prototype) I can say that I rather take the bike then the car.
Please guys by all means I am just new here to this forum so I apologize in advance if I did something wrong by posting a new topic or making any typo,s.
Best regards Richard van Ellinkhuizen
