Dunno how much longer we Stealth owners can remain 'Under the radar'.
Cheers

CD, That scenario they painted at the beginning of the article, that may have been based on me riding Tahoe last year minus the eating while doing so. I did that exact scenario climbing into Marlette Lake past Spooner lake. Powerfloe brings up a great point though. Don't ride WFO on bike paths around pedestrians, through school zones, and on MTB paths when others are looking and we are golden. But I do see your concern. Stealth Bikes is starting to catch on. And what will save us all from being banned from MTB parks and trail systems is smart riding. Nobody cares if we are flying downhill. Just when we are climbing and flat riding. Got to be smart at those times. If restraint is a problems, the other option is do what Hyena does, go where gassers go.

Dunk your battery should settle around 79 volts and stay there. Six weeks is no problemo.

Snapper boy, I like your set up. The bomber is a good commuter. With your setup, its a great commuter. :D

its christmastime, oh sorry easter ;)
snow was falling during the night, but the sun comes out

24km/17,2Ah and a lot of fun :)
It seems that a snowy trail eats the battery... recharge + lunchbreak cause I will go out a second time

it is true, the bomber is a dirtbike ;)

No Paule, its not a dirt bike, its a mud bike  . That mud on your Bomber is the sign of a good ride. Just so you know, part of your power consumption is going to be increased from the cold weather. In cold weather, batteries just don't work as good as wehn the weather is warmer. You will see. Great pics, I would email them to John K at Stealth and have him post them on the Stealth Facebook.

one more picture, this time from the sunny side of the trails

Can someone explain the definition of range for this bike.
Today I road my hub motorized kickbike (37V lipo 1,3kw Peak power) on paved roads for 13km and consumed 10Ah.
I did drive it quite aggressively.
So this means: 1,3km/Ah
Scooter weight: 30kg
Rider and scooter: 95kg

So how is it possible for Paul, with his 4,5kW bike hit 1,4km/Ah
Both bike and Paul himself are over my 95kg

And I am not even talking about people who claims to get 80km on that thing or more. In this case you must drive really, really slow and on flat ground?! And how fun would that be...

Hey Rix, I hope those mud pics do get put up from DH-Paule, 'cause I'm tired of getting the glossy, clean and shiny pic updates from Stealth. :p - Must be trailer queens in most of 'em.

Allex, one ride I did some ' kicking single tracking on mine last year, nice steep crawly technical stuff, combined with faster sections. Saw 25 miles on 1 charge, something like 19 Ah used ala the CA, re-gen showed something on the order of 10% of that. http://meurett.com/levismound/map.html

For my commuting use, I regularly see 40+ miles on a charge, average 18- 24 mph ( total trip) never really above 35 mph ( the wind noise gets annoying after a while wearing an open face ) Combined hilly terrain, flats, off road trail and stop and go city streets, stairs, and occasional urban assaulting comprise the commute. Yep, fun.

the common way is to give mileage in watts/km because everyone has different voltages .

so a 10volt bike's 1 amp per km is different than a 100volt bikes 1 amp/km.

so if your battery is 10ah x your voltage (37)gives you total watts in your battery =370watt hours

so then your battery divided by your peak draw 370/1300=0.28 of an hour run time at full throttle.

anyway, here is an idea for motor cooling

my thought is to use thermal paste on the dropouts to conduct heat from the motor windings out and on to the frame.
you can see in the image that even the lower suspension arm that is insulated by the bushings did not conduct the amount of heat away that the upper with direct contact did. this picture was without any paste but gave me an idea when I saw the frame temp and oil cooling is very effective but messy.

you ran at 37V and I ran at 72V thats the difference.
you have to calculate the watt/km to compare. And this is the half of mine.

So my ride: 20Ah*37=740Wh
Bomber:20Ah*72=1440Wh

So I should get at least 30km range on the Bomber when driving hard, on road - not bad!
I was getting worried there at first, thank you all!

Btw, the 2013 Bombers do have external power outlet from the battery to connect a light kit. Has anyone tried this?

Hey all first time poster.
This is a great and informative forum.. Lookin at getting a stealth trying to decide between the bomber and the fighter. I do a lot of dirt bike riding and i've had a few local dealers (Los Angeles) direct me toward the bomber. Any of you fighter fellas I would love to get your thoughts...

I have both so I'd advise you to try both, not always possible though with your dirt bike experience, the Bomber will feel like a lightweight so I'd agree with the dealers' advice. The extra weight of the Bomber will give you a full range of gears to best match cadence to speed, substantially more suspension travel and up to 50% additional range & power. OTOH the Fighter is a lot more manoeuvrable, much more of an MTB feel though just as much fun as the Bomber.

It is a bit sad to read some of the articles picking on E-Bikes :( - At 45 now and having enjoyed years of auto racing, motocross, jet ski, snowboarding, mtn biking, bmx, snowmobiles, it is catching up a little...4 knee operations, low back surgery and a titanium plate in my neck have put a little damper on my two wheel fun...my Outlaw SS has been a breath of fresh air, and my incoming Stealth Bomber (hopefully only about 2 more weeks) is eagerly anticipated!!! All this hub bub about E-bikes reminds me of the mid 80's when we "rebel" kids discovered and dove into snowboarding! Burton was the big company at the forefront, and skiers worldwide hated us- "we were going to ruin the mountains" "snowboards tore up the hills, damaged the snow and caused skiers to fall from the damage to the surface" My God, we heard it all! eventually people came out of the dark ages and today very few even remember those days- hopefully through smart riding and respect E-bikes will overcome and share the planet like skiers and snowboarders do now- We will always struggle to change the mind of the self absorbed rider who thinks if someone has had too many surgeries, or they are just too old... maybe they just should not be riding.....my plan is to offer a smile and a tow to the top..

Hey Aaron I remember those emerging ages of snowboarding , funny stuff. Still have my Elite 150 . Plenty of haters then, and see some of the same attitudes towards the e-bikes now. Some folks say " Wow, cool," and others well, not so much. " Cheater !" Personally I love to go fast from time to time, but keep it toned down around others on trail, and bike paths while riding the Bomber. I've even demo'd the bike for the local cops 'cause the bike patrol guys thought a couple might be a good addition to their stable. Their budget would not allow it at the time though ( the guys still want them 8) )

Late last year I was featured in a news article here about electric bikes, and charging " stations" and predictably there was a bunch of haters had to voice their ignorance . Funny stuff. Then the Chicago guys got into it via " The Chainlink " and there was plenty of banter about the use of e-bikes , and high powered e-bikes and their use on roads, trails etc..... My response to the high powered haters is something like " Well, my 7 series Bimmer can do 130+ mph all day. But that's not allowed on our motorways, but it sure is fun on the track, and I can still drive it on the road. "

1abv, I've ridden a Fighter a bit, and it sure is nimble. I just have a hard time getting past the two pedaling speeds though. If I had the dough, I'd add one to sit beside my Bomber for sure, if only for singletracking. If you are a dirtbike rider, the Bomber might make a real good choice as well, more range, more power and a little more " dirtbike- like" .

Thx for the info I haven't been able to find any shop in So-cal that has one to test ride. If anyone knows if / where that is possible that would be awesome! Did you guys (in the us) buy through a shop or go directly through stealth in AZ?

Is there a big difference in torque? The speed is cool but its not an end all be all for me. The idea for me is a practice bike for dirt bikes. Can both / either of these bikes huck the front wheel up in the air or can you spin the rear wheel?

On another note the misunderstanding about electric bikes like these is lame. As long as people are safe and respectful who cares where they ride?
It is a 2 way street though.. same thing in the dirtbike world. I know on some dirt bike forums rangers will read and follow them. One fella that I met got busted for posting pics of hiself going around a closed gate. All the rangers had to do was wait for him to go riding there again. Not exactly the smartest thing to do...I wouldn't be surprised if they start following these forums soon with the gaining popularity of the e bikes.

Just like the Posers that go to Sturgis.

Bill Nye Science guy, do you have any thermo imaging showing the difference between two of the same hub motors, one vented, one not? I know vented runs way cooler but it would be neat to see exactly whats going on. Just an idea.

Dh Puale, had a great day yesterday. Went for a ride in the morning on the Bomber. Came home put it on the charger, then went for a ride on my gasser, came back home and rode the Bomber again. Wheather got up to 72F. Perfect day. Have my 5403 back on right now because I am doing something special with he 5404, in a couple of weeks, will post a pick. The red mountain in the background of the bomber pic is where I took the pic of my Evo. What a a day.

Hi Rix,

looks like the perfect area for a rallyebike ;)
72F sounds really good, my morning ride yesterday started at 34F, the second ride was at 42F ... waiting for the spring & summer.

Getting it all dirty wasnt in the deal. Now if this happens again I am afraid you will need to send it back. :p

I think that is the muddiest Stealth picture I have ever seen. Can any anyone out there top this? 8)

I posted one, but it's gone now demo.jpg I'll find it and repost it
Wish someone had taken one on the group ride

Full T, thinks for reposting, I enjoy the older videos but don't take the time to search for them. This video could be "On any Sunday" with Ebikes instead of gassers.

Puale, it was the nicest day of the year so far, and yes, its excellent rally terrain. In the back ground of the evo pic, that road is part of the annual Vegas to Reno Rally race. Actually the course changes from year to year, so this isn't always the route. Don't worry it will warm up. Even though its still rainy, April things start warming up.. even in Germany. I wish I had the Bomber when I was in Hiedleburgh.

That was a muddy ride. In fact I think that was the muddiest situation I've ever been in apart from the Bluesfest
