E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I'm getting better, and better at wheeling over that track because when you only have one camera, you have to repeat the whole scene for every camera angle.

Puffy Clouds...

Hi all, my first post here. Im down in Tassie, Australia. I have a Stealth p7/p7r 1500w . Done near 2000km on it so far. Its currently stock apart from replacing the rear rim with a 26"one. I did that to get a bit more torque out of it as i live in a pretty mountainous steep area. My question is... i could really do with significantly more torque for the steep hills here as it goes out on high temp at times, and my ageing knees not helping matters... i have read about a few possible hub motor replacements inc the 2 speed hub or a high torque unit ( cant recall the model of it sorry). Would anybody be able to help me out please with some info on a suitable replacement hub motor that hopefully still works on the stock battery etc. Mine is optioned with the bigger battery too. I would think i could really do with around double the low speed torque, yet it would be nice if it would still do 45-50 kph flat out ! Apart from the lack of hill climbing ability , the bike is fantastic 😍. Thankyou for any assistance. Regards from Pete.

Do you have the older Bafang hub motor or the newer MAC? To do this right, if you go with a 10 or 12 turn Mac, I went with a 12T for more thrust at the cost of less top speed on 24" rims. I also hung the controller on the outside of the frame as I went with a bigger 9Fet until rated for 30 amps, and a CA2.4 analyst. Plenty quick now.

Wow Rix thats a heavily modified P7 !! My bike is serial number 41. I remember when i ordered it that they said mine came with the latest upgraded battery pack. I just looked at the motor. Cant see a brand name on it but it does have a part number (M20171-0036) . Hope that helps mate. Im afraid im a real novice on the ebike scene, so would really appreciate advice on what motor etc to buy to get me up these hills ! I specialise in machining, tig welding and fabrication but ive always stayed out of the electronics game. Cheers mate.

I think if I ever leave Nevada, I am going to Canberra. Neat areas? Thanks CD for posting the vid, good stuff.
Thanks!
Yeah, I only moved to Canberra from Sydney about 8 years ago. So glad I did...Sydney made me feel like a monotonous zombie walking on a pollution spewing treadmill machine. I was prepared to move almost anywhere within Australia, and didn't really pick Canberra specifically...my work just had an opening and I took it.
Canberra is great as it's a big enough city for all your needs, but at the same time surrounded by bush (with MTB trails), beautiful mountains and not too far from the coast and snow (2-3 hours each). I don't think I'll ever leave this place now. :)

Cheers

Metal fabrication, and bikes go together like peanut butter, and jelly. I have a hacksaw, a vise, a big hammer, plus a voltmeter, an a cheap soldering iron. That makes me a very dangerous person 8)

Can anyone help me with gears, i have the mk1 the knock off and it looks like i can install a cassette at the back but not at the chain ting as I cant see how I can attach a front derailuer. can anyone advise me please

Wow.... Canberra must be heaven because coming from the states Syndey was amazing.. I wound up living there for several months and would again at any chance I can get! Granted I didn't have an ebike then..

Im building mine for the city, never even thought about actualy taking it off road, but seeing how easy it is to get about I need to find something like on your lots videos, Im gonna have to build 2 cause this one has alot of features that arent for thrashing it about. Can people who have had these for years, say what there best upgrades were please?

I finally get to show my wife our movie, and her first response is "what do you think you are, 10 years old?" sheez. So what if I do? Then she mad fun of the soundtrack. She doesn't get it.

Holy shit, impressive!

I have to P7, the first P7 has a serial number of 000, and the P7 I have in the picture is 096. Anyway, lets see what you go, can you take a picture of your hubmotor on your bike and post it, I can tell by looking at it if you have a MAC or Bafang.

Ciao Davide, can you also take a pick of your motor, some motors come with a cassette hub installed, and some are only threaded to accept a free wheel. You will not be able to mount a front derailleur without some modifications to the frame...probably. I never considered doing that but dont think its possible on the PS due to the fact the BB and Swing arm pivot are the same axis.

Hey Rix thanks for the assistance. Hopefully my pics attach ok. My first go on here. I am thinking its a MAC motor going by quick internet search. Do you know the specs of the factory motor vs a 12 turn MAC motor ? I am hoping all going well that i can buy a 12 turn MAC and lace it into the spare 27.5" rim i have and it will work with the factory controller etc ? Would you also know the plug on the motor side that i will need to purchase so that it will plug into the Stealth plug on the swingarm. Oh and i guess do i purchase a motor direct from MAC in china ? I am in Australia but so far i haven't found an Australian seller of these. Apologies for the basic questions . Ive always been into motorbikes and quadbikes. This ebike thing is all very new to me ( and great fun to ride)

You have the Mac motor. The Stealth Spec'd Mac motor is a 9T wind. I don't know if you can buy a 12T set up to directly plug into the stock controller, you may have to set that up your self. That said, you wont notice much of an increase in acceleration if you use Stealth's stock controller, they have it programmed to not start off quick, but to add power gradually, thats why your bike is faster at accelerating above 5-10 km/H than it is from dead stop. Getting a 12T in a 27.5 rim is no problem though.

I just happen to have a new 12T for sale
It is laced but I can unlace it and you would need to change the connectors, or maybe I can help you with that.

Thanks Rix. Oh that's interesting info. I did message Stealth about the acceleration curve programming. They said it was factory set and couldn't be changed. The factory setting makes it quite challenging to get started on a steep road . Sounds like i would be better off using a 26" rim like i already have on the rear, seeing that Stealth already have a 9t wind and i would like to maximise torque whilst still having 26" or 27.5" rims with a 12t wind. That said then which type controller am i best to buy to suit ? Its all factory standard at present with stock big battery and controller etc. Thankyou for your help mate. Much appreciated.

The program power curve may be set at the factory, I am guessing Stealth specified the ramp up mode though. I would hit up Allex and get that 12T he has. If you go with a new controller, then you will need to go with a Cycle Analyst because the DC1 would have to be reflashed by Stealth, and I don't think thats something they do for folks who want to modify their bikes. I bet Allex could get you set up to plug-n-ride with our stock unit, and it will accelerate noticeably quicker, just not from dead stop. And your plan to use a 26MTB wheel will also help.
