Given the possibility of Energica disappearing and there being no future spare parts, what would be needed in terms of the controlling software/hardware specification to replace the VCU/BMS or battery pack should one of these units become defective? One of the things I was thinking that when the battery eventually degrades, would it be as simple as building a new pack/bms that delivers the same voltage/amperage parameters and hooking it up to the controller. Or if the motor controller went cactus, could any generic pwm controller of a suitable power be substituted.

Depends what the stock bike uses. Not sure what Energica or some of the other E-Moto manufacturers use but it could possibly be a custom version of a controller brand like a Fardriver for instance. The Bigger companies like Kawasawki (E1 Ninja) or Zero may have their own controller and bms but other smaller companies like Energica, Sonders, etc would use an existing controller I'd figure customized for their bike.

How many bikes did Energica sell? If they have enough of a user base, buying critical spares in liquidation might make some economic sense as far reselling. Otherwise they go to scrap, kind of like those batteries from that lame exoskeleton robot thing.
And what a high quality battery they were :) .

They use a custom controller they built with Mavel (who also supplies chinese companies like NIO), unfortunately part of what makes them excellent machines (all the electronics) is what likely made them so dang expensive.

By most estimates its only several thousands (not tens of thousands). There is a large owners association and two or three major dealers that are financially invested, I'll post it out and see if anyone else had thought of this, its a good idea.
