Evolution of an eBike dashboard design [Build Complete]

A wattmeter placed inline between the battery-side and controllers would be a better use.

Thanks...that helped me understand the wattmeter placement.

So what about the multi-cell volt meters. How would i hook them up? Seems like i will need to splice into the individual BMS wires. I dread the thought of that.

I am still trying to work this out.
Is a multi-cell voltmeter used INSTEAD of a BMS?
I was hoping to be able to use the BMS that is supplied with the battery but still monitor cell voltage from the dash.

Whats up with the integrated balancer?

I think i am getting close to answering my own question. I found this post in a different thread

........ "add two 8s jst balance taps. They splice into the wires leading to the bms. The balance taps allow single cell monitoring".......

So i do need to splice into the BMS mess of wires.

Ok, i have come to the conclusion that i don't know what the heck i am doing and I will screw up my first eBike build if I try implementing a multi-cell voltmeter. I will stick with a wattmeter with pack voltage meter.

Small steps work best. Understand what you have and how to use it before investing time on more ideas that build upon untested ideas. :)

Believe me - I've gone down that path myself many times before and will certainly do so again. Implement, test, read, tinker, test again... all part of the process of learning. You're in good company here.

.

Aiya!

Why don't you get a second hand domestic scooter and re do the electronics? :p

you can solder the cell level voltmeter leads directly to the BMS where the sense wires plug in.

Those precision hand-placed drops of solder look great! What would happen if there was one solder point that created a short between 2 sense wires? Please don't say the F word----->FIRE.

Endless Sphere member Paul is based out of China I think, and resells Cycle Analysts. He is at emissions-free.com and may be able to help you avoid imprtation hassles.

Thanks for the tip. Actually the contact info on that web site lists Hong Kong. Strict importation processes apply between Hong Kong and the Mainland Border. Do you know where Cycle Analysts are made? I wish i knew what they were called in China..

Vancouver, BC, Canada

Interesting. Thanks for the information. It probably wont be long before Cycle Analyst production is moved here. They don't call this place the workshop of the world for nothing. Perhaps the PCBA and plastics are already made here.

I like this display. Might be able to read the numbers without my reading glasses on ? :)

I had best not ride w/o my glasses on. I might run into a water buffalo crossing the street  .

Here is what I ended up ordering. I will add "key" switches after i get the bike up and running.

I hope I can fire up the controller without the key switch hooked up.

This dash and battery box is slowly getting built.
Not sure how to make the Watt meter waterproof.
Not sure if I will need to open the battery box often.

It's 2:30 am and I can't stop thinking about a way to make my battery box removable.
