Fechter's Throttle Interface for RC controllers

Just to be clear, that giant red switch I posted was supposed to be a main power disconnect, not anything more or less than that.

Do you guys incorporate a means to physically disconnect the battery on your bikes like this? I mean, if something goes "wrong", I think it would be nice to have a big, red switch at my fingertips to shut things down, over and above any electronically actuated protection, which always has the potential to fail.

Nice to see this finally coming together. This circuit is really the last thing I need to get my bike on the road!

Hey Mr.F, if you have a paypal addy.. post it up. Instead of trying to funnel funds may as well just send it direct to you .. if some extra happens to show up.. well.. Bonus !
+1

You might consider an "ES Foundation" PP account where funds can be pooled and disbursed as needed.

What news here Fletcher? I had to call you that, it makes me laugh whenever I see someone else do it.

Have we heard from JRH? We have the funds, and mine (brand new) is just sitting here anywayz. If you would be willing to add the caps I could send you mine, and then I will buy another from JRH when they come in.

hehehehe,i remember that show Miles
guilty of getting Richards name wrong a few times myself

Anyway business!! no reply from JRH still but my outbox is stuck and he hasn't been on for a while so.....
going back to Y's suggestion if Richard posts up his PP details we should just send in the testing funds, that way if we get some donations above what's needed for Johns great price we can just get one from castle and be done already, personally i'll be needing a board soon so im keen to crack on.

Come on Richard, give us the details!!

Cheers,

D

D,
Ok, I just talked to John on the phone and he is out of stock on the HV110 for about another month. Apparently Castle is back logged on those (maybe it's all us ES heads ordering them up). But he says that he has an HV85 that he can sell for $151 shipped to Fechter. I really don't see why this wouldn't work for our purposes. So your move now D, Matt?

Hi Etard,

do you have another email addy to contact for John?
he asked me via pm whether my esc had arrived back on the 9th Feb but i'm still waiting on it and my pm's aren't going to him?
i need to know if mine is one of the ones a month away  or it's lost or what?
At this point i'd rather just give Richard my donation, if JRH is a month away from getting any i'd be happier if we just went to castle if they have any? no disrespect to John, obviously if he has no stock there's not much he can do but i would hope the board will be tested a bit quicker than that??

Cheers,

D

I bet its on the way. :D

I'll send Richard a PM right now asking if he prefers to receive the money (if so send payment information) and place an order or have it sent to him (and if so to send his address).

Is the hv110 vs the hv85 required?

If so then it sounds the going directly to Castle isn't going to be much faster than going through John. I think if you want this to happen quickly and a HV110 is required we should:

1. Find a source that has them in stock which I think will be easy:
http://www.google.com/products?q=castle+hv110&hl=en

2. Richard or someone with his address needs to place the order.

3. We need to reimburse whoever places the order.

Its not a huge deal but if we order it from a California Source (one of the ebay links sources for example) and have it sent to an address in CA (Richard) it will cost an extra 8%.

I can place the order if you and Richard want me to do that.

THIS POST HAS BEEN MODIFIED

Hi Mitch,

thanks for that, im happy to get a 110 anywhere asap lol
anyone else?
Mitch if you are that close to Richard would you mind placing the order if we send funds to your pp account?
anyone else mind that?

Cheers,

D

pm sent.

This is really a great effort. I hope I can come through with the goods once I have a controller to play with. I have little doubt it will work with minor tweaking.

The idea of an "Endless Sphere Foundation" is interesting.
Everybody sends me money and I spend it

Actually there have been several projects stalled due to lack of funding. Other people have worthy projects too. Someday knightmb might need some bribery to keep the servers going. If there was enough money, we could even have sponsored events or at least contests with actual prizes other than a picuture of a fried guinea pig or bottles of beer.

I think spending on research would be most beneficial in the long run. Somebody figures out how to do something that a lot of people want. Never underestimate the power of the forum, Luke. I strongly believe that we have influenced the market either directly or indirectly in a very positive manner. Just a couple of years ago, a decent controller was nearly $300. Now we have programmable ones with regen and other nice features for a little over $100. We have learned much about advanced batteries and charging systems. Things we come up with here eventually become part of mainstream products.

Hi,

Just sent Richard the following via PM:
Would you prefer to (1) receive funds and place the order yourself or (2) would you prefer to receive and HV110 in the mail?

I asked him to provide payment information if 1 and shipping information if 2.

Mitch if you are that close to Richard would you mind placing the order if we send funds to your pp account?

I'm happy to do that if it helps.

UPDATE:
Just received Richard's Address which means he prefers to receive the esc.

I would prefer not to post my paypal address (I use it for other email and thats an invitation to get spam). If the consensus is that I should place the order I''ll PM everyone who offered to contribute with the Paypal information.

If there is any left over should I:
1. Send Richard a check?
2. Refund Matt and D (largest contributors)?
3. Refund everyone the correct percentage (least desirable option - most time consuming)?

My $20 all goes to getting this board and a HV 110 tested. I don't want any change back! If more is required, please let me know.

Mitch, go ahead with that Paypal address PM.

Richard, once you get this working, if you need a deposit for a board that's no problem either!

:D

That is a fantasic idea Richard :!:

There you go Mitch, we could put all "extra" donations to a fund which could be used to support our server (pay for back ups maybe?) or other worthy causes, superb idea.
Now about the 110  - Mitch will you collect and purchase and send to Richard?

Richard,

your the man.
don't worry if first try it goes pop lol, who better to trust on the forum?? :)
give me the addy Mitch

rock on northernmike.

Cheers,

D

Here is the email I have for John: jrh@holmeshobbies.com

But I think we are coming up short if we buy from Castle directly. I don't see what the difference between the HV110 and the HV85 is anyway, besides the obvious. If you guys just want to throw money at Castle, go ahead.

Etard, the obvious is the important part.

I PLAN on being able to use 110A.

I want this tested the way I intend to use it.

If more $$ is required, so be it.

Castle has an interest in protecting their sales chain - their dealer accounts - by making it less desirable to purchase directly from them. As a business, would you not rather sell minimum quantities so you can finance batches instead of one-at-a-timing it? Of course.

I suppose we should be considering too - what will Richard be using as a load for these tests? All well and good to have a controller, but now what's the motor on the bench going to be?

Hi Etard,

the only reason it isn't coming from john is we (I?) don't want to wait a month for it, otherwise john would be our preferred supplier every time, indeed my personal one is coming from John, i hope
But if he doesn't have any for a month imo we need an alternative now, indeed i need an alternative now.
i suggested castle as that's the only alternative i knew however Mitch has since posted many places where they are available at a better price.
Matt is shipping drives as you know and we need the board soon, waiting 4 weeks to save $40 doesn't seem worthwhile to me?
also personally i would like to test the hv110, maybe if their are enough hv85 users they could supply Richard with one of those too?
anyone else agree? i think we should just buy one, from the most stocked resource available now and get it over to Fechter's house double time

Cheers,

D

I can't believe CC still has problems not keeping these things in stock. I was a dealer for them as well, and that was always the rub. They'd do production runs in spurts, so I'd always have to order way more than I wanted to in order to keep them in stock.

Mitch, who had these in stock? I was going to go direct to CC, and re-activate my dealer account, but if they are out, there's no sense going that route.

If John is correct Castle is out. Might be worth stocking them again anyway if they take off on the forum.

Which is the reason I thought we should find another vendor. In my experience "about another month" means probably within the next six or eight weeks.

I thought if I placed the order on Friday (even though its not shipping until Monday) that would end up being faster. Plus it is a more efficient use of my time to just jump on it rather than continue the debate.... :D

No trouble finding it in stock. I ordered it from Tower Hobbies (http://www.towerhobbies.com/) because:
1. I verified by phone its in stock.
2. Their list price was one of the lowest ($229.98).
3. Out of state (no CA Sales tax)
4. $25 discount
Save $25.00 off Your $199 Order!
Order NOW and save $25.00! Place at least a $199 order through Saturday,
February 28th and we'll take $25.00 off the total!

Hi Mitch,

good work imo, i hope no one else minds but i would think not, Richard gets the board pronto and we can move on.

Cheers,

D

Should I have received the PayPal details by now?

No PM received so far.

Hi,

PM Sent. The total pledges and the price exactly match so including Paypal fees its going to be a little short which is OK.

On the other hand if I missed anyone or anyone else wants to chip in a few bucks please send me a PM.
