Hi all,

I just thought to ask, when you're forced to place the pedals on an electric bike like the X-treme XB-700Li, if it be a good idea to have these folding pedals installed?
I don't like the regular pedals because they bounce against the floor if they are not horizontal. You think these folding pedals will make things better or worse?

when would you ever get forced to put a pedal on scooter bike? :?:

I've read there are police officers stopping people because they have no pedals, and can't prove it's an electric motor aided bike, instead of a motorcycle...

I live in South Florida, and don't know if police officers know about these electric bikes here. I just would prefer avoiding unpleasant tickets, as I don't have a license plate, nor insurance for a bike like this.

I'm not too up to date about the whole electric bike/scooter laws in S-Florida, just thought of gaining knowledge wading through the many contradicting and aged webpages out there!

Many states have their current laws online, so you might go to the Florida.gov website and see if you can locate the bicycle-related laws. In many states, it is not a bicycle if it doesn't have operable pedals, thus if it also has a motor on it then it isn't a "motorized bicycle" but rather is a scooter, moped, or motorcycle, if it doesn't have the pedals. Might be other limitations, like power amount, speed, etc., but you'd have to check that too.

Some places, it doesnt' matter if you have pedals or not, you might still get hassled by police and others just because it doesn't look like a bicycle. Depends on the area and the people, as well as how you and others before you that also rode such things behaved on the roads. ;)

But but but it has pedals! Remind of a thread not too long ago about a Canadian(?) guy playing the victim game because he rode a similar "ebike" and was harassed.

Off a bit to one side here but if you want to get the pedals out of the way get the quickly removable ones, only put them on when you need to use them.
I got a set to save my shins from getting hit by the pedals when moving the bike in places with restricted movement. They are also a theft deterrent when leaving the bike parked up. I got a pair of the first type (second weren't available) and they've been good, the only problem is a bit of surface rust on the shaft between the bit you put your foot on and where it fits to the crank (one of those little jobs to sort eventually, probably just a bit of hammerite).

To be sure do what i did . Call the caps they will tell you that you probably need the pedals. But folding pedals are a bad bad idea.Think of a folded pedal looking down to the street and you taking a long left turn ...the pedal will strike onto the road and you might hurt yourself.

Investigate with the local police and if possible go there with the bike if it didn't came with a certification of some short to get you one.My scooter bicycle came with a certification that is 250 watt road legal in Greece with frame number and everything this kind of document is a mast if you got stopped by a moron .

But don't use folding pedals for your own good. Also you are lucky that 700 watt is road free here under the Stupid European laws its 250 !!!
