I know that if I don't put these guidelines up here, someone will point out that they don't exist and try to exploit that.

Posting on Endless-sphere.com is a privilege, not a right.
We reserve the right to delete your posts and/or ban you from this forum and/or Endless-sphere.com without prior warning.
It is your responsibility to read and follow these rules.

What can not be posted here?
1. Links or information leading in a topic, post, reply, or your very own profile that contain pornographic material, get rich quick scams, religious debates, link farms, advertisement for sexual enhancement drugs, or anything else the community or myself considers to have nothing to do with this forum. Those accounts will be removed from this forum with haste.
2. Please keep all advertisements for items which are relevant to these forums in the Online Market section http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=23 (clarification: all ads of any kind must go in the Online Market, in the Items For Sale - New / - Used sections. If it's discussing or promoting a product you or your company sells, it's an ad, and can't be posted in the discussion areas).
3. Posts, topics, reply, or profiles which go beyond simple expression of opinion and edge toward unfounded accusations will be removed. Repeated problems with a user will result in account termination. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but don't take it too far.
4. When all else fails, just use common sense. We are all adults here, so let's keep the community focused on why everyone comes here. Everyone wants to exchange ideas and information with other people that have the same interest. The last thing we want to do is sort through tons of spam topics or post that have nothing to do with anything here.
5. NO FORUM BOTS ALLOWED!!

Use the REPORT button
There is a report button in the corner of each post. If you see an avatar, signature, or text that violates the site rules or you would just like the administrators to review it, PLEASE report it. Only the administrators can see reported posts and we really appreciate the help. There are many new posts each day and we can't see everything. We depend on everybody to keep these forums a useful resource for EV enthusiasts. (If there is no report button it means that post has already been reported.)

You can be banned from the Endless Sphere Forums for violating any of the posted rules, or ignoring specific instructions from the administrator or any moderator. Continued abuse of the Forums or attempts to get around a ban will result in banishment from access to the entire website. If your username is banned understand that it is banned on the entire site. You will not be able to post anywhere.

Any user with more than 3 (active) warnings will have their account deactivated for a month. Repeated problems can result in a permanent ban from this forum. All warnings expire 90 days after being issued.

Legal Threats and Lawsuits

The intention of endless-sphere is to spread and share knowledge and experience of ebike technology. It is not intended as a platform for the public hashing out of disputes between vendors and their customers or between other individual parties. If you have issues and grievances with someone then that should be dealt with privately if it can't be done amicably on the forum. Talk of lawsuits and legal threats is not tolerated on this space, and people making legal threats may have their account suspended and post removed.

I'll add:

Some people can access theese forums from work.

If for some reason you decide to post a link that has racey pics or any other
content that would make you uncomfortable if your boss saw you watching it,
make sure to tag your link as beeing not safe for work. (NSFW)

LOL.. the irony.. spam posting on a thread from the administrator saying don't spam...

Doesn't PHPbb have some kind of spam filter? i am on a couple online message boards and they do not have this problem.

I know it's not quite what you want, but you can use the Members link at the top of the forum:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/memberlist.php
and then click the "Posts" link (twice) to order them with most posts on top. Since typically the people you're looking for have a lot of posts, it'll put more of them in the first pages of the list.

The red ones are admins, and the green mods. Then blue are gurus, with no special powahs except ability to post in a restricted-write-access forum for technical reference stuff. KnightMB shows as green, but he's also an admin.

Really hating the "View post history" feature.
^^Ditto. I liked it before when we had 30 seconds to two minutes of grace time to fix a typo. Edit History = OK, just don't have it kick in right away so I don't feel like an illiterate goob.

Spel checkin evry wurd, KF

Know that the mods are with you on the revision to the post history "feature." We all want the first xx minutes to be "free" with no history recorded. It is in the process of being figured out by the powers that be.

I have a question. Decided to post it here since other new users might need to know this as well. Otherwise I probably would have kept this to a PM.

(this section of the forum doesn't allow me to post new threads. So chose this as the most relevant place to mention this. I'm thinking I need to get a minimum post count before being allowed to post a thread in this section, but that's just a guess until someone clears that up)

What are the guidelines regarding what's allowed in the signature area of my/our profile? (and possibly the avatar area as well) A quick look around when I originally signed up didn't address this, so I had chose to play it safe and not have one at all yet.

This is what I got for other forums I visit. This version is low size/filesize. I have a slightly larger version for some forums that are a bit more lax on file size limits.

*Snip* (Example now used in my sig area)

(aww, no center align text bbcode on this forum. Guess I can live without that. :p)

So what I need to know is if images are allowed in signatures? Can they be animated gifs? If so, what are the file size limits you have? What is the max resolution for the image(s)/text total that you consider acceptable? And of coarse subject matter. If this can be cleared up, it would be appreciated.

The above image is about 244Kb in file size and has a resolution of 256x144 pixels not including the 5 or so additional pixels from the text below it. So total sig size would be 256x150 or so.

I don't consider mine to be obtrusive. But that doesn't really matter. Every forum is different in terms of guidelines and rules they have. I try to adhere to what ever rules any particular forum I visit has. So I would like to get this cleared up and I bet others dropping by here for the first time might benefit from this as well.

I have already gotten 20+ posts on this forum. But I visit here sporadically over longer periods of time then some other places I go to, so other then when I first signed up, I hadn't thought about this here much until today suddenly. :p

As for the discussion above about post history....Hmm well I tend to edit my posts a lot. Like in a couple of my recent posts. I tend to try and fix errors and add detail I might have missed to the post. I do this usually before it gets read by others. Forums in particular allow me more time to do that. So I tend to try and fix it up the best way I can. It's a habit/compulsion of mine due to how I learned how to communicate online. So I suppose for me, my edit history might get cluttered.

Hopefully not a problem? :p

most people have reasonable signature stuff, we have had members at times post HUGE images, and we've ( mods ) asked that they be removed or shrunk...... it's not exactly black and white, being courteous and not cluttering up the forum with a heavy, eye bulging, seizure causing animated something etc is fine most of the time. and if it's out of line... you'll fine out.

Considering the above animation example by AT, I just hate stuff like that. It just grabs your attention when you are trying to read real stuff, plus if the person takes part in a meaningful discussion it keeps showing up again and again, not only grabbing you, but causing lots of extra paging when searching for what someone has said. Just my 2 cents worth.

Sort of in the same vein, I fail to understand why some insist on copy and paste of many many lines from a previous post as they respond to it when just a short applicable piece would serve the same purpose. Again, just my 2 cents worth. :D

Regarding the animations and such, I just use adblockplus in firefox to deal with taht sort of thing. There is a greasemonkey script for PHPBB forums that collapses nested quotes but I don't have it on this computer so I don't remember it's name.

Alrighty then. I've went ahead and updated my sig. The forum prevented me from using it saying the vertical resolution for images is limited to 240 pixels. Something I didn't know until I attempted to use it. :p

I've re-sized the GIF and re-uploaded to make it so the forum will accept it. :D

I (among other people I'm sure) have a registering suggestion, that would be great if made a requirement. A meaningful location - a number of times in the Sale area (as well as the PM area), users go back and forth posting extra messages just to get an idea of where the subject is located. That otherwise could have been avoided, should the original and/or a replying poster chosen to specify their location during registration.

Well, there actually is a required "country" field when signing up, added mostly to help deter spammers (or detect them, since often they put a different country (usually USA) than they are actually signing up from (usually Pakistan or China, sometimes Russia), and doing that will get them removed during spammer sweeps).

However this field is only visible if you are on their profile page, and isn't shown in the little info pane on each post, so to see it you have to click their profile button/link on their post(s). And for members signed up before this was implemented (maybe a year ago or so?) the field will be blank.

There is a proposal up already for making the location/etc info, and a number of other things like an introduction post in a specific forum for the purpose, within 24 hours of signup, all requirements to even create a login (or have it automatically scrubbed from the system in assumptions it's a spambot that can't read the graphics describing the requirements/etc.). But this will all take people with time and programming skills (specifically in PHPBB), so it's not likely to happen soon, if ever.

Location of the user/poster on the forum really helps people connect to nearby folks who share the same passion/interest.

I feel the same way plus those people who quote someones 11 image post to say nice photos ... :D
