Full Face Helmet

Here is another one, not too bad price wise compared to the average premium motorcycle helmet, but it has a really neat feature, it comes with different size shields and a face mask even for the winter! :D

I have this helmet and it is pretty nice

I like how you can remove the visor and the face shield easily, and there are a ton of vents that you can close with switches on it depending on the weather. Plus the clicky neck strap is much easier to use with gloves than the neck strap in the other motocross helmet that I've used

Also you look like Master Chief when you wear it.

Looks over $400.

The one I tried to post a link of was $300 on the site, but all the pics were weird so I found the best one I could.

You normally pay upward of $400 for a really good motorcycle helmet, and you really don't know what your missing at motorcycle speeds at least, with the reduced wind noise, neck fatigue and just a helmet that REALLY fits you well.

I started out with cheap Nolans, up-graded to Shoei helmets (crashed one once face plant into a guard rail on a race track at around 80 - 100 MPH, and not a scratch on me) but it wasn't until I got an Arai helmet that I finally understood why other people raved about them, they actually have not only different sizes, but different shapes of helmets to fit you so well, and wind noise a thing of the past!

Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't wear anything less than an Arai now, just that you really do get what you pay for, and E-Bikes for me are a strange animal when it comes to a helmet since I'm not going 60MPH on the freeway, I actually don't wear my MX helmet much any more because of how much of my vision it restricts, which is part of why a helmet like the Blade is so interesting to me.

I just recently bought an AGV modular helmet for $6 at goodwill (it will need a new windscreen & hardware), and with the windscreen instead of goggles, I think I will find the less restrictive view more acceptable.

The other thing is how much more muffled sound is, harder to talk to your buddy while riding bicycles with a Motorcycle helmet on.

That is a pretty sweet looking helmet! :D I like that it makes room for speakers to, nice!

I find that the visor is completely indispensible for blocking low sun angles and the headlights of oncoming traffic.

Mace DH full face helmet. I never ride without it.

I guess mace the brand has been discontinued? Might find them cheap, saw one on pinkbike for 50$ http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/688235/

I'm a fan of the Nolan brand helmets. The N43 is really good in warmer weather, and you get chin protection without the look of a full-face motorcycle helmet.

Thank you so much for posting this!

I just ordered a N43, I'm really looking forward to getting it!

I love the flip down sun shield that is on the inside of the face shield idea!

That and the removable chin-bar just made this my favorite helmet.

There is a pretty good deal for them on Amazon too:

That Nolan lid looks perfect except for one hesitation. Does anyone find that these kinds of helmets draw attention on a bike? I'm trying to keep fairly stealth so I don't get sprung for having over 2kw on board  . It's one of the things I liked about the blade, the sharpish design with a peak at the back and an optional peak at the front makes it look a little more like a cycle helmet.

On the N43, the clear visor is removable, and a visor peak can be installed instead. That makes it look much more like a bicycle motorcross helmet.

I had to share since I got my own now! :D

It's the newer version, and doesn't come with the removable chin bar with breath guard, but it's fine with me as I bought it to not have a chin bar in the way when I want to take a drink from a water bottle.

You can get the earlier model of this helmet really cheap on Amazon (about $100) on sale, but I paid full price on mine because I wanted to support a local shop owner I have been buying from from years, and I paid $220.

I also added the essential fog city fog shield http://www.fogcitysolutions.com/InstallationCleaning, and unfortunately, this one was a dud (he gave me a discount on one that was on the old side, but with the promise to replace it if it had problems) and it worked great until the last part of my ride home when it came unglued. :(

Not sure if that is because it was old, or if the face shield just has too tight of a curve, could be either, but I'm going to give a second one a try.

I absolutely LOVE this helmet! It has a built-in flip down sun shield that is inside of the face shield!

It's also a lot more friendly for lower speed riding than a typical motorcycle helmet, it allows more sound inside, with out sacrificing the typical snug feel of a 3/4 motorcycle helmet.

Now if you land on your face, I suppose it's still not going to protect you as much as a true full-face helmet, but I crashed quite a few times on motorcycles learning to ride fast and racing (or so I thought I was ...  ) and I never really landed face first, it was almost always side or back of the helmet (yes there was one freak accident on the race track where I ended up flying end over end side-ways and kissing a guardrail, but that's gotta be a 1 in 1,000,000) so I feel pretty confident that this helmet will protect me in 99% of any accidents I might get into. :)

Nice looking helmet for sure, but holy smokes $220!!??? I spent twenty on my Leedom Scream, and $5 for some fog free goggles.

http://www.sierratradingpost.com/leedom-scream-s6-snowsport-helmet~p~72028/

Well, I would love to see a pair of fog free goggles work half as well as the Fog City Fog Shield, I have a pair of nice ski goggles that are double paned that do ok, but at the price of a LOT of peripheral vision.

The beauty of this helmet is it gives you total peripheral vision, and I'm not saying they don't exist, but short of some other form of a double paned set-up for fog free eye ware, I don't see it happening (I tried many coatings, and goggles over the years, and none were really up to the task of the muggy Portland area that fogs things up so completely.

As to the price, what is you head worth?

I have $10 Goodwill bicycle helmets, and I have used them too, but I really have to say that with out a really good one, I'm taking a huge chance!

In the motorcycle world, a good helmet meaning something that is going to save you in a crash STARTS at around $200, and that is usually for a helmet that has all kinds of cosmetic and lack of venting issues not to mention causing your head to bounce around in the wind at speed, and many really don't fit you that well.

I have spend over $500 for good Arai helmets in the past because they have not just different sizes, but different shapes too, and getting a helmet that fits you like a glove, doesn't cause extra neck strain due to poor aerodynamics is worth it's weight, and since we are (ok most of us aren't going motorcycle speeds! ) going slower, a good light motorcycle helmet with little restriction on vision makes more sense, and this helmet has fit that bill VERY well for me, and it just happens to fit me extremely well. 8)

I am getting a downhill helmet or a dot motorcycle helmet for my ebike that can go 50mph. Normally I don't go that fast. I normally go around 30-35mph average.

My question is will I be fine with a downhill helmet or should I get a dot motorcycle helmet?

Keep in mind, I don't like heavy things on my head. : )

Price is not much of an issue. I know a motorcycle helmet might be overkill and cost more than a downhill helmet.

The other issue is with cops. If they see me with a motorcycle helmet they might be more tempted to pull me over since I am riding in the bike lane with a motorcycle helmet.

What are your thought?

I notice my full face downhill draws a lot more attention then a typical bike helmet. Cops stare extra hard since the change. With the typical helmet they don't glance twice at me. So don't base your decision on drawing attention as I feel they both draw more attention.

At 50mph it won't be the helmet that makes the cops go

Most of you know where I stand on this, for the USA anyway, 50 mph is for the track, or at most a few dawn patroll sneak runs that won't draw the cops down on ebikes in your locality. Not your daily transportation.

But if you are doing 50 mph without a dot helmet, AND some body armor on bicycle tires. Well,,, at least buy some dot tires.

Bike tires will hold up at 35 good enough. Just go easy on the duration of 50 mph riding and it will be ok. New DH helmet for everyday, and used Dot helmet for the 50 mph sneaks at dawn?

I would say anything that is full face is going to draw same amount of attention, that DOT sticker isn't big enough to be seen from a distance.

If you're going to be riding in mostly hot weather, I'm sure a typical DH helmet will be better as it will breath better.

If you want something that can be more useful in cooler weather, a DOT helmet is going to do a better job for you IMO, yet will never be as light as a DH helmet.

I don't think a DH helmet would ever be considered too little protection even up to 50 MPH speeds, but, it will also not be designed as much for everyday use like a DOT helmet, and won't hold up to abuse of normal everyday use like a DOT helmet.

My biggest gripe with most DH helmets is the bicycle style clip for the neck strap, that IMHO is the weakest link on any helmet, and only the DOT ones have truly well designed ones, unlike the flimsy quick release you see on most bicycle helmets.

Also, if you're going to be riding on the street mostly, there are a lot more practical choices out there in DOT helmets, my favorite so far has been my Nolan N 43 E.

It is so modular, it can be full-face, 3/4, and has a flip down sun shield that lives inside the main face shield, and if you want maximum air flow, take off the face shield.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I think I will go with a downhill helmet instead of dot motorcycle. I do have a regular bike helmet but I feel that is not adequate for the job even at 30-35mph.

Also for the 50mph run. I rarely do it. There is this one section on my daily route where I need the speed just to be safe and I do use it. But after that, it is all 30-35mph.

Any good light downhill helmet recommendation?

I was thinking of giro remedy cf.

Downhill helmets are lighter, some are very light if you are willing to pay for a racing helmet.
DOT motorcycle helmets offer better impact protection, for cheaper.

Be careful, i noticed that people who start wearing a DH helmet, suddenly lack 30% of their brain trapped inside.

I just got an urge helmet yesterday. It feels amazing, light, breathable and sturdy. Urge downomatic full face in Monaco yellow so it's easier for cars to see me.

You might want to look at nutcase helmets. They were in my short list and they do some awesome helmets both for cycling and there motorbike helmets look like cycle helmets so maybey a little more stealthy

mace makes dh and a light dot helmet. troy lee designs are the best carbon fiber d2 helemt

iv got a full face dh helmet..

It clearly tells you on the helmet its not for motorized vehicles
I ripped the sticker off and im good to go..

if i was to buy one again, id buy a proper motorbike helmet.

The other day i was riding and had the go pro on the helmet, stuck in the middle on the top....
drove past a few cops, they gave me nothing but wow his a freak looks lol

I've got a Six Six One Fenix full face DH helmet. It's both DOT and SNELL approved, and uses a double D-ring strap. The only downside is its not vented all that great.
