Full-throttle's 1st

Nice traffic in your latest vid FT, is that standard for your commute ??
That sucks if it is. I'd definitely be coming up with an early warning system - perhaps some large forward facing spinning blades :p
Why the MX goggles on your commute ? Wind ? or just part of your ebike riding alter-ego's disguise ?

I have been seriously considering buy one of those jet fighter helmets, are they any good for ebiking? Melb winter is coming and I have been thinking of cutting down wind on ears factor etc.
They're good for the wind, the flip down visors aren't perfect though. Mine has dual visors, both clear and tinted which sounds good but they're not designed to cut wind and something in the design actually seems to channel the air INTO your eyes. It seems odd but flipping the visor up somehow actually results in less wind blowing in your eyes. Internal padding is adequate to be comfortable but not super spongy like most moto helmets so not really adjustable as such. Mine is a tad loose but I've got a pretty small head so that's neither here nor there. With a beanie it fits well but in winter I normally wear a full face mask as can be better seen in my ghost rider vid here: http://youtu.be/L2uZbNc6sP4

They're a bit of a novelty but I wouldn't suggest wearing one if you're trying to pick up girls
That said I'm yet to find any helmet that looks cool, though these are more on the geeky side.

No, that was unusual. Some school decided to let all these kids go on one of the busiest bike paths. No warning, no alternative route, no marshalling and no manners. 4km or something of that.

Someone left a blunt comment on YT. I was actually going slow, especially considering being delayed for work. The only collision I had was at 0:43 when a kid walked into me while on the wrong side of the path walking backwards. If you can call that a collision :?

The goggles are really good at stopping wind and dust from irritating eyes. And for amusing school kids

No music, still working on it..
Filmed over a few month period a couple of years back. Camera only catches 10% of the incidents.
I now ride on the bike path.

Great video man! funny how everything seems so familiar

in my country they are more and more blocking bikelanes from cars with poles etc (the car isn't king anymore in my city)

and the kidsvideo: how typical

watching the "downsides of being a cyclist" made me think of how it would be nice to have a horn on an e bike. like one of those compressed air horns.

You need an air horn or something louder.
Thanks. I have done something like that awhile ago. Couldn't fit a bottle anywhere so.. um.. improvised. Have a laugh

In traffic it was actually working well, on the bikepath not so much.

Just trying out something different. Want to pedal a little more, have a lighter bike, comply with the law
I'm not sure I like it
Complying with the law ? Or the other bits ? :p
I'm doing the same lately and challenging myself to use less and less power on my return commute. Going in to work I still take it easy so I'm not hot and sweaty but the challenge is on come home time. Initially I was using 30% less power on my return commute but I'm down to around 50% now which I'm pretty happy with and I think around as low as I can get it without being too uncomfortable. Slick tyres are next but my spinal happiness means not going near road bike style skinnyness.

Its catching. :) looks like its not just me getting a little err limp wristed of late.

Don't worry, I am getting a bit of testosterone boost with a nice new HS4060 laced up for the Fighter at the moment.

So what settings are you running on the controller?
Stock. Only changed the LVC and the 12V reg to work on 48V.

The hub is only stage 1 of Hubageddon. Stage 2 is the battery pack

Oh right, looked at the picture and clicked that your're not using your old controller.
The potted controller is a good move with the weather changing, but I assume you butchered half of the gel when you made the mods
Nothing a tube of silicone can't fix

Does it feel like a halving of power compared to your previous setup?
My guess is it's about 1/3 less power in terms of rider feel that only comes into play with hills.

C'mon. I've always wanted to waste my time on a twin cute build. You're just the man to do it for me!

Want it? Well, actually I was planning to add a q100 to the rear of my pub bike and make it dual after finishing about a million other things. Might finally be an excuse to learn to lace my own hubs...

It's a high-RPM wind. Might not be ideal for 700c. You should try it first in 26". Do you want me to bring it on the 14th?

The main problem is it hasn't got much torque.

Partly because it's an inrunner with airgap dia of 52mm vs BPM 130mm, partly because it's higher no-load speed than the 12 turn BPM.

The bottom line Wh/km is roughly the same with the average speed of 10~20% slower even with a lot more pedaling. This morning it got hotter than I'm comfortable with.

I would have expected a slightly slower av. speed if the economy doubled. Put it this way - on the very same route I have a higher average on a road bike

It is also much noisier.

I concur.

I run a q100 on my minimal look globe because it's a 1.5km stretch half way to work, turn left, another 1.5km to finish the trip. Torque not needed due to lack of stop/starts. When I run downtown thru lots of traffic lights it's best not to wish you were on another bike with proper torque. You end up routing around traffic light intersections.

I'm just curious as to what two would get me compared to the BPM.

Two at less than half the hub diameter still ain't gonna match a single BPM for torque I suspect.

Actually a speed wind might be kinda cool on the rear 700c full-throttle to prop up the top speed. Feel free to drag it along if you want to get rid of it for a few bucks but I have plenty to keep me busy in the shed if you don't!

I found my growly front one did settle in after about 100 clicks. Gears must be rough cut from the factory. Is yours new F-T?

Well, it's a little more complicated. The current, planetary reduction and the width of the air gap matter. Isn't torque proportional to the width and the square of diameter, if everything else is kept the same?
The reductions are 5:1 on BPM and 6.7:1 on Ananda. Airgap width is 18mm on BPM and ??? on Ananda.

It's new.

I've thought about a 2wd build especially as I have a cheapish bike here with steel forks. But I came to the conclusion it's a bit of an exercise in false economy. 2 motors = 2 controllers and 2 lots of wiring, which is slightly fiddley and space occupying even if they're little 6 fets. Then there's the weight, it's better balanaced by I'd rather have a single mac or bpm run at higher power than 2 smaller motors. Or in my case I was looking at twin macs running 2kw ea on 12 fets, but for the cost, weight, size, and fiddleyness I figured you're better off with a H35 running 4kw and be done with.
