I wonder how many cameras they had on you while you were riding at the reflecting pool.... 8)
Not sure. Not as sensitive a target there... The residence is a beehive, however. And for what it's worth, I think it's my HELMET, more than my riding, that attracts attention, suspicion, dread...

I'm sure they have you in several databases...:)

How do you like your magura throttle btw. I need to get a full twist, The thumb throttle isn't for me.

Yeah, I'm not sure that last post helped... I'm sure the license plate recognition sensors go nuts... For all the big brother stuff tho, the sensors led to the capture of the dude who killed an AU Prof.

The physcial throttle is great. Required mods tho, you know? I think I'd rather have a trigger type, like on snowmobiles. The electronic ones were hard to find, used for some scooter I can't remember the name of. Hold on, let me look. Here it is: An alternative to thumb or twist throttles.

Good fun last night, BTW! We did another podcast, this time chatting with guest liveforphysics! :D I'll post the link here when it's up...

I'm not a big fan of trigger throttles. It's just not what I'm used to. I can't much stand snowmobiles either...

I'll edit last night's episode as soon as I get home. Midnight is late enough on a Monday  It's going to be a great show!

edit: Where did you get your Magura from?

I think from here: electricscooterparts.com

An old threadon them.

Thanks, I just found that holmeshobbies has them for 10 bucks cheaper, plus he's a member. Ill have to order one soonish.

Edit: do you have the Hall Effect version or the POT version?

POT, but wish the Hall Effect... My chinese full twist on the comfort bike has smoother acceleration, and I gotta wonder if the POT mod deteriorates the range somehow...

I can't imagine it'd hurt range any. It might not give you the best response though.

Do you mean throttle response range?

Yeah. I'm no EE, but my magura throttle is pretty touchy, the hall effect one less so (tho that one on 6x10 might have some factor).

The ideal throttle has more range on the low end (slow) and less on the high end, right? I thought I recall something about this being an issue w/ magura throttles? Methods had something to say about it. Would take some digging...

Thanks for pointing that out. If its a true POT that goes from 0-5k on the wiper, then you'll end up with dead zones and just a little bit of active region. Methods has done the legwork here to make it easy anyway though.

Edit: also POTs tent to be more or less linear (unless they're logarithmic) and the hall throttles can make that curve pretty much whatever they want. You could do it electronically with a pot throttle too, its just more complicated.

I said range but meant resolution!

FWIW, I had a lot more probs w/ my old 846 MCU infineon....

tough love from my big bro, after i emailed him the trail jumps vid:

truthfully, and i've known you too long to start lying to you now, a disappointment. have become accustomed to a very high standard of creativity from you. only interesting shot in here was the one momentary perspective when the camera was on the ground facing up and you jumped over it. otherwise, in this day and age of espn xtreme excess, lots of shots of you jumping your bike 2 inches off the dirt just didn't do it for me (now if <my 3 yr old daughter> were the one riding the bike that would be a different story....).

only sayin it cuz i love you bro.

now that i'm done crying, i have to share it..

I told him he was right. I then sent him Sidewalk and he was it was 'superlative... guaranteed to make his wife vomit...'

but i think he felt bad...

 I think your bro is being a little hard on ya! your death defying antics in the streets of DC more than make up for it Greg!! Years ago we used to goof around on mountain bikes doing big jumps and dropping off 5-6 foot walls and stuff ( i broke so many bike parts I cant even begin to tell you) some of the stuff felt so scary when we were doing it but looked lame on video, so that puts Danny Macaskills videos in to perspective doesn't it!!

Keep the videos coming, I still watch em full screen on my big TV...awesome! you should be taking commission from 9C and Hobbyking for these videos, simply a great example of what you can do with off the shelf bits and a few dollars (OK quite a few dollars)

And hey thanks for inviting me to be the next pod-cast guest! I can hardly wait

See you in cyberspace at the weekend!

Paul

Hey G

Looking forward to it..I really love the street vids but also love the other routes you take, what would a tourist like me like to see in DC? would love to see Gregs guide! ha ha, now I know it may be beyond the scope of your current battery pack but a sort of e-bike tour of DC would be so cool 8) with a stop and some off bike footage of you nattering and the like, it would balance so well with the other videos you make, your city looks amazing (I'm a wide eyed kid when it comes to America..always have been) so love anything from your side of the pond, even stayed up to watch the super bowl this year..didnt really know what was going on  but loved it all the same!!

Looking forwards to the highlights video, you must have so much footage there unless you delete it once its up on the tube? anyways i am rambling again!! ha ha its been a long week, I did go out on my e-bike though after a month of riding a normal bike (trying to shift some xmas weight) and was simply blown away, my Turnigy packs simply rock even after sitting cold in my garage for a few months, all balanced and thumping out the power..gotta love Lipo :p

:D :D

So slick Greg!! very well edited as well, some nice stuff in there and some scary ones as well, the pedestrian near misses are so close! man its gotta hurt to be hit by an e-bike :? I suppose it wouldnt do the rider a lot of good either. Some amazing clips in there Greg, the quality of that camera is just outstanding, your rig is the perfect commuter solution IMHO, enough battery capacity to make most bike commutes, batteries in a sensible place for handling, plenty of power on tap to get you out of the way of cars, pretty much bullet proof in all weathers (as your videos have proved) silent, no chains to rust or anything to adjust, all built with off the shelf bits that are readily available if something goes...pretty much an ideal e-bike IMHO :)

Catch you later

Knoxie
