GT i-drive 2.0 Build

Awesome videos. Really enriches the forum. I tow my boy to preschool in a trailer (very slowly), and he loves it. If his younger sister hasn't woken from her sleep before I pick him up she is devastated not to come along. If I didn't have electric power I wouldn't even ride a bike.

In my opinion cyclists are actually the biggest enemy of Ecyclists. I made this comment on a different thread, about how I read on a mountain bike forum these guys were talking about how they had seen a Stealth Bomber riding around in a national park here in NSW Australia, and how they were going to all dob him in to the cops. I made the point about what a bunch of turds they were, but a few people here on ES chimed in and said that mountain bikers have the right to defend their territory, and they argued how a Stealth Bomber is a motorbike basically. Which completely missed my point. In Australia at least when you seek to enforce the law against others who are causing you no harm, and when you "dob" people in to the law, we have a name for you, and that's a "dog" and a "rat". Spend some time in one of our fine criminal institutions and do it, and you will get a sharp tooth brush in your vital organs. Deservedly. You dog c&nt.

All of my difficulties dealing with the grey area of law and ebikes in my experience has been caused by jealous petty cyclists. They are like the fundamentalists in a religion. If you don't pray to their pure strict pedal god then you must be obliterated. I have never seen such a bunch of whiny whingy law calling bitches in my life.

I too have had cyclists yell petty hate at me as I blast them, and even though I never, ever, exceed the 200W allowed by Australian law, if it ever does happen somehow :) , and the law man comes knocking, I will know where to look, at my local lycra hero....

and I will start sharpening my toothbrush.....

Really!? Here in bay area, California pretty friendly to my ebike, I passed many of lyca cyclists and when i stopped by red light waiting for the green light. By time the bunch of lyca cyclists arrive the signal light and They tried get my attention cause I cant hear the sounds so they tapped my shoulder. They said is this ebike and I nodding as yes. They said awesome!! nothing mad or against my ebike at all. 8)

However if someone shout or mad at me. Thank god I am deaf in real life and I simply wont hear what he or she says to me. Basically they will be waste their time shout at me for nothing.

Thanks! I suspect my stuff is a bit polarizing. That's ok. It's all good...

I hear ya. When I dropped down on a trail 50 pages back or so, I got some heat about it, and created this query.

For myself, I decided a while ago it was more fun to play with cars.

Thanks. Batter up Greg!

If you really wanna blow my skirt up, ride like I was with your kid on the handlebars
How old is your youngest one ? My 3 month old is definitely too young to be shaken around but I'm sure my 2 year old would be up for a ride with dad. I don't trust high mounted carriers but I think some slow speed trailer action is in order.

Well rain sends those lycras home :D I passed 5 bikes on the way home in the rain and they were all gracious. One woman even said, "Hi!"

Checked my controller connections before leaving work and sure enough the Hall connector was part way out. Plugged them all securely and refastened the electrical tape. Full power with no cutting out on the bumps 8)

Did the kids get wet on the way home? How does Charlie like the rain in that front seat? Are you using the hardtail again?

i actually had jury duty today, and didn't feel like leaving my bike outside downtown all day in the rain. so i took the metro.

Charlie loves the iBert (and so does everyone else). Shipping to Oz wouldn't be pretty but I'm sure Hyena could make one up in a jiffy with some plastic and paper clips, and an inner tube to fasten it. Won't work with the big forks tho... I've got a nice worn set of carbon forks, maybe a crack or two, I could send you for your dirt ride. Make sure to mount the gopro in the front, facing backwards... haha

I've been meaning to thank you again, Dave, for the trailer bike! The video was done on Sat, w/o it, but on sunday, I hooked it up and we hit the park again, 2 trailer bikes and Charlie on the ibert. They fought over who'd go with me, but I put yours on my wife's bike so he could actually help her, since it has gears! The kids wanted to race so bad. My wife's bionx batt was low (charging in the cold?) but w/ 80V on 6x10, there was no competition...

And boy, can you imagine how tempted I was to chase some Lycras with all the kids on! The Lycras were blowing through, weaving along like they owned the road...

Want to get the Cyclops on but am toooo tired. Tempted to do spring cleaning on the bike at the same time. So I'll probably have to wait until the weekend, not that I have any more time then.... Might have to be an all-nighter!

Not ebike related at all, but a vid I just edited from old tape archives.

In 1990, after college I travelled around the world, and spent a year in Greece with relatives. I went back frequently since, often for the month of August, when the country is on vacation. In 1999, at the end of one trip, I was in Athens and had 36 hours before my flight. My cousin convinced me to go to Yaltra, where he had a rented room. I got there and an old man came onto the property. He thought I was a thief and I thought the same of him since he was gathering things. Once we got that cleared up and I found out he was a fisherman, I thought, heck, why don't I ask to go with him! We became instant friends.

I ran out of steam on the subtitles for the moment...

haha. You caught me off guard with the MacGyver question in the pod cast and I couldn't think of a good example off the top of my head.
Afterwards I thought of a good one though - I was out one night and the throttle cable on my car snapped a fair way from home. The only option was a new cable or an expensive tow home. So I took off my shoes and used a shoe lace to tie around the throttle body butterfly spring. I pulled it open until the car revved to about 3000-3500 rpm then tied it off to something in the engine bay to keep the tension right. I then drove home using only the clutch, selecting the gear I needed to get roughly the right speed. I don't recommend it in heavy traffic but late at night it got me home without incident

Thanks mate, that'd be awesome! They should hold up OK with an X5306 and a 100v 100 amp controller hey ?

You've been talking to Aussie Jester too much :p

Why not take the kids out and put a doll or 2 in there then go for a spin and hunt down some lycras. It'd make great footage
There's a big circular bike track near my house that's frequently inhabited by lycras. On my way home last week there were dozens there all racing around 'training'. I was so tempted to go mess with them (complete with my body armour and full face helmet on) but my gopro SD card was unfortunately full so I figured there wasn't much point. I'm going to detour past there every day though and work out when most of them are there, then set up the camera and weave through them all like a total asshole

What a difference 23 hours makes :) I passed no bikes on the trail this morning. I left an hour earlier and the temp was 10 degrees colder. No ice but close with the rain yesterday :| Got up to 44mph on one downhill street run after I exited the trail

Brilliant idea! Would look hilarious. The contrast of the dumb dolls' expressionless faces and these mad pumping lycras! But they might not look heavy enough for the full effect... hmm

I'm surprised a barricade wasn't set up at each mile. Pretty good chances that guy was a lawyer... Which downhill exiting the trail?? Oh, VA ave, the tunnel.

Honeymoon in WI. It's a nice place, isn't it? Where did you go in WI?
Hey Clay. Classic IRONY, you from NZ calling WI a nice place.

It is nice tho, esp this year since the Packers won! My wife's from there. We have a family reunion there every summer. The kids love it. But it's flat as a pancake! Maybe someday I'll get around to doing our wedding video...

you're my hero Greg.

I did make a mistake not traveling alot. We travel alot during our vacations though. Ill probably never quite travel that much... I have been able to ride my bike all over the US and Canada and were planning a trip to iceland this summer (going to rent a bike, couldn't convince my girlfriend to ebike). I would love to take some time and ebike around for a while, Sylvia Halpern style:

Greg,

I grew up in Wi and that is where I am originally from. It will always be home for me. I think it is as beautiful as NZ, just in different ways. But I have yet to go anywhere I haven't thought is beautiful in it's own way. I wouldn't say it is as flat as a pancake, except the south and parts of the east. The northwoods is the best part in my mind though I love the woods and the lakes and that is where I was living before I moved to NZ.

Cool. I'd like to go. I only know Green Bay and Shawano where the family has a cottage on a lake. We love it!

Oh, snap!

(his legs that is)

OK, I'm ready for spring. Note the tires:
IMG_20110302_072614.jpg
Yikes, look at the chain!
IMG_20110302_072601.jpg

I left this morning having second thoughts about how tights the axle nuts were.

I accelerated easy. These tires add some weight! And the ride is so different. Nice cornering. I have them pumped up to 30 in the front, 40psi in the back. But I do have to get used to the weight again. Any my unsung hero, my front wheel, original to the bike, a Big Box rim is finally showing some wobble.

In other news, my ping charger is on the fritz. It goes off an on when charging. On when I squeeze it. And it's completely surrounded by heat sinks inside so I can't see anything. Could it be a FET? I'll take a little video, or just take it apart further to see. For the moment I'm lugging the meanwell/icharger around.

And moving offices this afternoon. Back to Chinatown. Mixed feelings. I'll get some more vid up one of these days. In the meantime I'm taking a bit of a break from ebike vids to finish up some other projects.

It's probably not a FET, more likely a bad solder joint or something like that. Generally you won't be able to wake FETs from the dead by doing anything mechanical to them.

nice to see you are brave enough to put the tires on now Greg you do know statistically we are more likely to see snow at Easter than Xmas

Your chain is rusty too!! ha ha would hate for it to snap on you what would you do then ?

Shame you aint posting any videos, I would post my commute but its so boring!! ha ha must get out and do something, I do have some pretty cool footage from the gadget show testing out a few ebikes must get that up.

Go over all the solder joints on the back of the charger, nice thin tip on the iron and not too much heat!

Out of client meeting early so I thought I'd ride around the hill grab some touristic footage for you. Secret service bike cops finally stopped me near house bldg. Half hour wait as they ran my numbers. Then we talked mountain bikes. Lol. Tires, suspension, etc. I asked what tagged me. Undercover guy said, "kinda everything, all black, ff helmet, camera, weaving around..." was recording, but got prob mostly audio....
