GT i-drive 2.0 Build

Hi there- Yes that one BMS battery charger, so when it completes charging and the led green goes red?

Nashbar bike online, I ordered one however they don't have medium size 19" frame and I cancelled the order. All they had available was Small size 16" frame I think. I am going get a Greyborg frame or Stealth Bomber instead. Meantime I am saving some funds right now.

Gotcha on green led as complete charge, and My hs3540 still sitting shelves, I am going sell it and I am getting 5403 instead.

Mine(600w) took 21days. And they did say between 14-21days... But then they packaged it so badly that spare fuses were smashed and charger being broken(dent on the side case). Oh on top of that, fan inside the charger was broken off inside!
I'm negotiating with them at moment on how can I prove this isn't my fault...they better send me new one before next year!

noticed some scratches on the replaceable gopro case lens cover:

so i bought some replacements, and that means i can mount the camera lower, closer to where the rubber meets the road..

quick test, using the youtube heatmap effect for the hell of it:

it may be cool for a second, but way too much for a longer vid..

fooling around in the dirt on mall at lunch time and the beast started stuttering and groaning... i've been waiting for this, so didn't pedaled back to work.

too many jumps...

it's the same sound as last time, when i tested and killed it, though not quite as hideous. i'm hoping it's just the hall loosened up, so i can glue her back in place. might as well do a couple motors at a time.

took metro home, drove back to retrieve bike and got some help pulling the hub motor apart...

glad i didn't try to ride it. as suspected, the halls were out, and the insides were disgusting! melted, shredded, caked black shrink tube bits along with the other resin-like crap.

gonna use some jb weld once i clean it up more, and might even test the motor with them only slide in to make sure they're good...

Brilliant! Your helper seems to be much more active than you, watch him go! it's a blur moving around, pushing things out of the way and making the rest easily accessible in the centre of the room! Don't think I could do better even if I tried, he is truly skilled!

On another note, good thing some glue will fix it, would suck not being able to do the fun stuff often...

Looks very hard on your back working like that. Need to set up some kind of vise or clamp to work in a safer posture. Made my back hurt to watch it.

Seems to me you have a motor tester. Hook that up and handhold a small strong magnet over the stator and make sure the halls fire before re-glueing them. Save you a reassembly cycle.

brilliant video greg and yes looks like the jumping has shook a hall, my son is the same age and he loves coming in to the garage with me...kids! hope you get it sorted, the windings look amazingly good considering the power you run.

Oh and here are those cracked seat tube pictures I mentioned, this comes from a combination of me having the saddle up quite high, being 200lbs and having 10lb of batteries on a beam rack, I have broken 2 seatposts as well :p we make cranes at my work so I figured that I should be in a good place to get it sorted, they are going to braise it for me on Monday, this may cost me no more than a couple of bags of doughnuts and a round of coffee for the guys! a lot cheaper than 500 bucks for a new bike though.

Ask your shop guys about using a doubler, a second piece of half section tubes, welded (brased) on top of the cracked piece. If you cut the ends of the doubler in an "S" shape, you spread the force up and down the tube instead of having all the force trying to chop the off the tube, in a straight line. Cutting the doubler at a 2 X 45 degree angles, like sharpening a pencil, is easier, and also spreads the weld, distributing the force. You end up with 2 "A" shapes looking at it sideways and 2 "U" shapes looking at it at 90 Degrees.
A couple of small diameter rods from the side of the down tube, up to the ends of the beam rack will also help.

lighter color is a second coat, added for good measure. sure hope this stuff is non-conductive!

could not believe the slop in the front axle. it was seriously loose. turns out it was bent too. tightened down, i saw no wobble tho.

i've been practicing my stoppies.. this axle is another big reason for a new mean DH bike...

go RC! You'll never have to worry about disgusting frock-motor guts again!
yeah, believe me i'm tempted. methinks i'd have a few other things to worry about tho....

i just started thinking i should maybe take it easy on the hubbie commuter bike, and build a torquey rc bike w/ insane suspension for stupid stuff...

Take your crank arms off and clean+lube both interfaces that meet the bottom bracket. It's very common to have such a creak when that interface gets dirty/dry.

Is all that dirt in the hub from melting wires? Or is that dirt from outside (I don't think you drilled your hub though)?

Do it! I'm spending this weekend moving my RC mid-drive from an old 4" travel Raleigh frame to a 6" travel Transition Dirtbag freeride frame. The fork is a 7" travel Marzocchi Drop-off and brakes are Hayes hydraulic. You should check out my build log when I get finished and post pictures. Of course I can't really do much insane stuff because it will be my commuter bike, but I feel confident that it'll be capable of it, should the need arise...

Ive bought this

for that exact reason... a high power hubbie commuter and a stupid power RC ofroad monster!!

No you will just have to worry about chain noise, sprocket wear, controllers blowing..and more controllers blowing, getting your trousers caught in the drive train, Greg is abusing his motors to the max here its no surprise he has shaken a hall loose, Greg I would stick with what you got, I havent seen one RC motor setup that I would take over a decent hub motor rig yet  even the great HAL on the podcast admits the RC motor is not an ideal solution and he should know, for stealth and commuting the Hub motor is the best choice, I mean RC motor drives are unreliable enough without throwing a harsh commuting DC winter in to the mix as well.

Very true! Knoxie, I gotta agree with his comment.

I have 550 miles of commuting in fairly hot weather and pouring rain all over this hilly city and I have never blown a controller. I have only gotten my pants caught in the chain once

If you honestly would rather have a boat-anchor frock bike instead of the Dogati or Recumpence's yellow trike, I question your ability to think rationally
