Has anyone taken a TongSheng and hooked up an aftermarket controller to it?

It's what I asked in the title, has anyone taken one of those and just bareboned it with something? Is it possible?
I can do a Bafang with a 16-fet controller, and that's the way I like it. :D
All I need is on/off and throttle. TongSheng motors seem like a good cross between BBS02 and HD.
Minus not probably enough finnage.
 
I can do it with a BBS motor. What I'm wondering is do the TZ motors have any kind of internal blocks to doing it like that.
 
Screw it, I'm gonna do it. With a Fuji road bike, and a 36v 30A battery or 2, and a 24 Fet Komodo.
Done deal. TSDZ8 or whatever.
Watch it be all messed up.
I'm not using their system if I don't have to.
I'm using that wire like I hooked for a 220v hookup, and a 24 fet Komodo I got and some kinda battery and a keyed throttle I know how to do. Halls are optional.
Gah, brakes on that thing..gotta have front disc brakes.
Well, might not can do it all right now.

I gotta have front disc brakes, and I think this has the older, thinner, threaded type forks. :(
 
The TSDZ2t is only 66 mm in diameter. Kind of small, in my opinion. I would think you'll cook it on anything more than 14-16 amps at 36V,

But it would be easy to attach the yellow, blue and green motor phases, and the hall sensors go to a flat 1x5 plug,

The minimum for a VESC to control anything is 3 phase wires. You also have halls, so that's nice.
VESCs and other RC controllers handle the high RPM these run at.

Regular bike controllers? not sure, RPM may be too high, that's an experiment which sometimes works. What sucks is nobody publishes max RPM on ebike controllers, whether it'll stutter on a dual reduction geared motor or not is a mystery

What exactly and specifically do you mean by that?

Are you looking for a "tongsheng motor" that is "like a bafang"?

Are you looking for a way to drive an unspecified tonghseng motor (you still haven't told us *which* TS motor) externally?

You need to be clear, and specific, and consistent, or we won't be able to help you find what you are looking for.


The thread I linked has a post in it that links specifically to a successful TSDZ2 conversion. It is the only thread I found in a few seconds of searching ES for TSDZ external controllers; I don't have time to do all the research for everyone since no one will do research for me. ;)

If you read around, there are also other discussions around here about the problems with doing it with various versions, mostly because of the torque sensor. Probably most of those are in the various TS (mostly TSDZ variant) threads.
 
im using osf, not an external controller but better than stock
ive tweaked it, rewrote a few things, battery amps are at 30, phase at 50
insane startup torque with pwm tweak

No, I wanna hook up a 24-fet Komodo to it.
32A 18-72V controller with extra Ceramique2 I put on it.
Voltage to be determined. 36-72v probably.
All I need is the phases and halls, and they look pretty straightforward from a pic..was it in this thread?

I burned up a BBS02 with a Voilamart controller and a 48v 30A battery.
It ripped for a little while though. :D
I think I asked for too much torque from it.
went for top speed throttle only in highest gear.
Put a 72v controller and battery on it for a little bit and sometimes the motor itself would just kinda "spin out"?
Looking at the design of the TongSheng it looks like a BBSHD rotor in a lighter and less heavy duty package.
 
I'd go for an external controller. That will remove heat from the case. Now you have a little more thermal overhead for pushing some more watts :)

( but make sure to add a temp sensor since you're pushing it! )

Komodo 24 MOSfet and probably a 52v 40A battery.

Ahh..caliper brakes. They're really good ones.
The frame says "Helios Tubing", you know anything about that?
Nice big triangle, but unsure what tires I can put on it and only has caliper rim brakes.
That I do not like. I like to be able to stop. It's nice and strong and light.
All I got is "top" and "Helios Tubing" and "Sport Series" or something like that.
Can't find much on the internet. Smaller threaded fork, like a '94 G.T.. if I can replace the fork with
something light and disc-brakey it's doable.
The brakes on it seem really nice, though. Maybe with some new cables n pads.
I used to have a blue Trek 400, and this on par with that or better, and probably newer.
That thing would glide with just pedaling.

It's that. Now, I have a Titanium handlebar and levers and cable and housing.
I could get by with front disc and rear caliper that's there, IMO.
 
Oh.. i was hoping your expedition into a fast mid drive would involve something with suspension :O

I think this bike is pretty good quality. With the right brake pads, it may can stop OK.

Ask a bike shop, i think the answer is no. If you have a 1 inch fork headtbue, you will have a hard time finding a fork of good quality

Well, I don't ride easy.
Hmm..I bet there's forks for it out there that take disc brakes.
Gah, "fully custom" as the fork description is not confidence inspiring. 🤣
Front disc on this thing is probably not happening.
The brakes are really tight, though, and the pads on there suck.
I bet with some decent pads it might be halfway alright.

not so fast with a 36v battery. Ya gotta be able to stop. Some goobus did something retarded today right in front of me.
Suddenly swung around from not the turn lane into the subdivision and turned around in the subdivision entrance.
No blinker. Not the 1st time I've seen that, but I saw this one coming. Last time was in gridlocked traffic and yet somebody did that.
Went over the handlebars on that one. They pulled out from gridlocked traffic and whipped it around out of the blue.
