Hey dsp5460,

Ok, so now that is done, ...are you talking about a Star E-Scooter? Like these?
https://www.google.com/search?q=Sta...ChMI2_ywuN6rxwIVTZeICh23ngot&biw=1440&bih=779

Do us a favor, post some pictures of what you have so we can take a look. To post pictures on this site click the Upload attachment tab at the bottom of this page, the click browse which will open a box from your computer so you can select the picture you want to post. You should keep the pictures under 500kb each so you can post them more easily.

:D

none of those match, it says New Star E-Scooter, then on the steering shaft it says FLYER, also i cant take any pics cuz im on my laptop and my phone isnt working.

Going to be hard to get help for it if you can't give more info and if no one here has seen the same thing to know what you mean.

Are there any indicator lights on the scooter or charger? What writing, if any, is on the charger? Can you get to the batteries inside the scooter? How many batteries does it have and what writing, if any, is on them? Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it (to check the batteries)?

Is it the kind of kick scooter you stand up to ride on? Or the kind where you'd always sit? Does it have bicycle pedals? How tall and wide are the tires? What kind of brakes does it have?

These are examples of info you can provide from the get go to help people here out.

The are 3 batteries, bigger than a regular alarm battery but i can get them at my local ADI store, it has a seat but you can stand, where u can stand or sit is how i get to the batterys by unscrewing the panel and 2 of the 4 screws for the seat,it has almost regular bike brakes,i can get to the battery the kind of charger is model: CH36-1.8S, input : AC90-130V/50-60Hz, output:0.1-1.8A , it says its for 36v lead-acid battery, it has 2 indicators - written under green light it says RUN, under the red light it says POWER, the end that goes in to the scooter is a 3 hole female. i have a multimeter but its in my dads truck and hes out right now at the casino, it has no bike pedals, no on and off switch but it does have and ignition with key, it doesnt turn over or anthing. The Exact Writing on the actual scooter is , Grip tape: New Star E scooter and then on steering shaft and under seat is FLYER. Also there is a design that is a flaming comet with and S inside it

All that is good info. Check the batteries first. It's a different scooter than yours but watch the first 3 minutes of the video below to get a general idea. First, he checks the combined battery voltage. Then at 2:00 in he checks each battery's voltage.

i checked each batterys voltage and they are all the same, its been on the charger since 12pm. (i took the chager off and tested them). i still dont know how to start it, or i did do it the right way but the motor could be bad, because all the connections are good.

What were the battery voltages? Any loose or broken wires or a fuse in there?

You can test the motor as explained below by momentarily connecting a battery to it to see if it'll turn.

Testing a brushed DC motor. (Typically marked MY1018, MY1020, etc. available on EBAY)

Mount the scooter in a safe sturdy position so that if/when the motor turns, nothing will be in contact with it or its chain, wheel or other moving parts. Then unplug or otherwise remove all connections to the motor, leaving just the two leads that enter the body of the motor, usually red and black. Connect a 12 volt battery carefully as follows. Red connects to the battery's positive terminal, black to the negative terminal. There will be a spark as the final connection is made, and the motor will instantly spin, so I connect the positive lead to the battery terminal firmly and then just brush the negative lead from the motor against the other battery terminal. I do this, because a dead short in the motor would burn up the wire leads if tightly connected, and damage or heat the battery. If the motor is good, it will spin, so again, make sure it is mounted in such a way that it will not harm anything. If the motor is rated for 36 volts, and you connect a 12 volt battery, it will go slower than its maximum speed. If it is rated for 12 volts, it will go at its maximum speed. If you connect the wires backwards, many scooter brushed motors will go in reverse.

the motor works, and the batterys arent chaging too well but me and my dad have narrowed the problem to the controller, we are going to order one and we are probly going to get batterys too.

heres some photos, because i still dont know how to start it....

If the batteries don't have enough voltage altogether, the controller may have a feature to keep it shut it down (see below). Could be that's why you can't start it. Make sure the batteries are ok before buying a new controller. A new scooter controller from eBay is cheap but why buy one if not necessary.

More About Controller's Functions

Controllers also serve to protect your battery, by shutting down when the battery voltage falls too low. Draining every last bit of energy from a battery seriously shortens its life, so this is a very good feature. ...

Some identification notes:

O.K., after seeing the pictures my best guess is that it is a Currie "Flyer" Scooter.

If you want to contact them and ask them about your scooter, check out this link.

Also, what makes you think you need a new controller?

:D

I would definitely be looking at batteries first, those SLA have a finite life.

Then checking connections, making sure power is going to the keyswitch etc.

Then last resort a new controller. Make sure it is a brushed controller, and realise you will have to change connectors and do a bit of wiring voodoo to get it running.

the volage is good and so are all the connections

First rule of trouble shooting is "Thou shalt check voltages" i.e. start with the easy things first.

What voltage are you seeing on the battery fully charged? >39V? Below 32V and you can expect it to cut off due to low voltage. Even then high voltage can be misleading as the voltage of old batteries can sag down under even small loads. So maybe test battery voltage with scooter on AND off.

The keyswitch, fuses, connectors can all be checked using the continuity tester on the multimeter. And check for voltages on the keyswitch, it is probably switching the battery pack voltage.

Throttle can then be tested to ensure it has 5V power coming in, and the throttle signal ranging from 1V closed to 4V fully open. (Assuming a hall type throttle, which may not be the case - a Razor throttle I took apart was just a switch)

Test the motor by disconnecting it and putting 12V into it directly. Polarity probably not important.

Then if that all checks out, you may have a faulty controller. Not the easiest job for a beginner, but not impossible.
