Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Yeah some of the crap they call reality TV is sickening. I rarely watch TV these days, there's maybe 2 or 3 shows I watch but I spend more time watching quality youtube stuff. But even on youtube when you look at the good quality stuff (ie not some kid running around with a flip cam) they still have like multiple people working, up to 10s of people on some of the better stuff. I reckon I could turn out something nice with the help of 3-4 people and a solid day of filming.

But my flick wont be 20 mins long, maybe 5-10 mins.

Re: gopros, I got this email last night from our favourite tyre supplier
$250 delivered with a 16gb card seems like good value for the silver. That's all you need. Get on it :)

Edit: New avatar from my gun screen shot 8)

Get the silver unless you need to do really slow motion stuff (low res 240fps)
And even if you think you need it you probably don't :p I bought the black because it had the extra slo mo feature and the capability to shoot in higher resolution again, but at less than 25fps it's not really that useful and I VERY rarely use the slo mo. Infact I've only done a few shots deliberately to see what it can do. In hindsight, I should have shot the clips of sokol coming off his bike in 120fps 720P so I could slow it down if I wanted.

Hey! Hold on.... Actually, your're right, that would be cool... and would help explain to my wife why I came home with so many scrapes & scratches! LOL.

We want triple didgets on the speedo. Too many fasts mang ;)

+2.5 (Hey I am bigger and fatter than most)

Jay, sounds like Sokol is in the dog house with the misses, got to bail him out man

OK here's the clip of Sokol biting the dust!
Something funky happened in the render that made it go all flashy like that. I didn't do it for effect, but with appropriate dramatic music it could probably look OK!
I tried rendering it again and it did it a second time as well, not sure what's going on there. Anyway, you get the drift.

That was a strange type of crash, done it myself on snow or greasy mud. What happened to your guns up avatar pic? I miss it already.

Yeah the stack was basically caused by running near slicks on a dirt track. Traction wasn't the best so too much flicking around under power and out comes the tail.

Bump for gun pic - I took it down after a PM from someone suggested it may be taken the wrong way outside of this thread. Everyone reading here knows that it was intended in an "action man" kind of sense but I guess for my 4400+ posts throughout the rest of the forum it could be taken the wrong way.
Maybe a boomerang would have been more appropriate for an Aussie :p

Hey Rick - maybe I over stated things a little... But yes, I was keen to see some footage also! :) As it turns out, Hyena didn't need much encouragement anyway! :)

I'm glad I could some provide entertainment... At my own expense! ;) That flickering is damn annoying though...

...just my way of keeping in character... When coming into proximity of the Batshit-Hyenator few mortals can stay upright!

Yeah, it was only a matter of time... I was running a half-worn Shwalbe Big Apple... Next to no grip on dusty dirt tracks with loads of dry leaves & twigs! No damage except for a few scratches & a bruised ego! ;)

You should see what happens when women are around

But yeah I dunno wtf is up with that clip. I used another piece of software to edit it as my main program buggers up the slow motion. But for some reason it hates that segment of footage. I'll have to try and edit it to a smaller block first (it was a 1.5gb file) and then re-edit in slo mo. It'll be a shame if I cant use it! Worst case I'll run it full speed, so no biggy.

I've decided I'll have to head back to that location with a rig on my bike that extends the camera out in front and shoots back at me. I'll ride along there ducking and weaving apparent bullets then draw my gun and show me firing backwards. Then I'll cut to that footage 8)
My spewcam(tm) would be ideal but I wasnt wearing a helmet in any of the other footage so that aint gonna work. Unless I edit in a section where I stop to collect a previously stashed bag and helmet. That could work...

quentin hyentino is pioneering a new methodology in the art of directing by never yelling 'cut' or 'action' :D

I heard about that new technique, Quentin Hyentino just films and lets the actors do what ever they want, then he peices it together later.

Lies, I called "action" atleast twice - here's video evidence :p
Besides, what's wrong with "OK, go" haha
This clip also has some other bloopers / behind the scenes type stuff and me being all director like. And unfortunately some of the shots that I can't use because the bloody camera got knocked and ended up shooting too low or otherwise missing the shot.

Man, cant' wait for the final production.

Same :D

Had lots of fun, but that video is clearly fake overdub :pancake:
lol @ 0:54.... It's amazing you managed to film anything using such 'skilled' actors

You guys would have been stars on home and away in the 80s.

I've been taking the fighter to work the last 2 days, still sans chain so super duper ghost pedalling around traffic
I'm still waiting on the grips and brakes to arrive for my new commuter bike so I can finish it off and get it on the road.
I got a call from the wife yesterday at 4:30pm saying I had a small package to collect at the post office. The grips were overdue and I figured this would be them so jumped straight up and lept on the bike. Our home PO is 30 minutes from work so I'd have to flick it out of 250w mode... ;)
I left work at 4:32 and made it there at 4:58. Pleeeeeenty of time. Heh. I still stopped for all the red lights etc but just gave it a squirt where safe to do so.

This is good data for me if if I want to look at using this motor or similar for my small upcoming madass e-moto build. Decent regen @ 22 amps and this increases with speed. I hadnt given it much thought before but I guess this is related to the KV of the motor because it has next to no regen down low (first thing I noticed) but pull up pretty well from higher speeds. Not displayed is the AH / WHR but I used 8ah for the 16km trip which was around 35 whr/km, ridden as a motorbike. So even with a 20ah battery I'll be able to safely make the return trip to work. Though I'm planning to run 24S so that will be even more watt hours. I think a 40km range will be reasonable and that will be plenty for my planned 32km return trip. And I'll normally recharge at work anyway.

Oh, and as it turns out it wasnt the grips I was waiting on at the PO, just a dumb box of lipo. haha.
Hurry up dammit, I need this bike ready to ride for the final leg of the gloworm cross country trip this time next week!

Faux-pedal skill level upgrade: chainless. Hahahahha. Priceless.

Man I've got it down to an art, you have no idea. I boost up behind lycras then coast past silently and a moderate cadence with no power.
I take off from the lights slowly with my legs moving quite quickly in slow gears, then pedalling more slowly and with more effort as I apparenlty shift into higher gears as my speed rises. I coast down hills and then start pedalling towards the bottom, then more rapidly as I go up the other side as my speed drops from the load of the hill. It's master trolling

I'm looking forward to getting my commuter going but I'll miss that surge of torque and the ability for my right wrist to suddenly cause massive wind noise :)
It takes me back to zero riding when I was in the US.
- The sound of birds tweeting
- *twist throttle*
- epic torque then nothing but blasting wind noise. hehe

That is interesting data! Those 2 screens tell a lot.

Here are the same 2 screens from my ride yesterday....5404 Bomber...so hopefully shows the difference if you go to 24S too.

Interesting remf!
Actually my average and max speed are almost spot on for yours from this mornings commute - 75.2 and 41.9. And I wasn't giving it to it nearly as much as yesterday afternoon. I guess I must have copped more traffic yesterday.

I take it your bomber isn't stock ? That seems like an aweful lot of regen current! And primary battery current too for that matter.
And if that's on 24S lipo you're really wringing every last drop out of the battery taking it down to 72.9v!

Yeah I switched to 200W mode when I got to town, cruising around at low speed for a while too. No it's not exactly stock...the controller's been worked on. I really gave it some on that ride yesterday, WOT on the Macadamia grove trails around here...then downhill at maximum speed regen only, no hydros to pull up for turns. These new packs are really good.

The e-madass sounds like a winner 8)

Remf, those are some impressive number with the 5404. I got the same motor but I am running about half the current for now. Looking at a 9kw peak setup once the 5405 arrives. Winter project with that, new controller, and 20s Lipo setup. Jay, ghost pedaling with no chain. Fuqn great!!!! You smell that stink? Thats you because you are the shit!

Rick
