100 TW
I had an idea recently. There are a lot of cheap 250W class geared hubs that can be found on used electric bikes cheap (with dead SLA batteries). They provide the EU-compliant 16-MPH in a 26inch tire when using 36V. If we use it at 24V, then it would provide 2/3rds the speed, or 11-ish MPH. Then, swap it into a 20-inch rim (down from 26-inch)...so 8-MPH? new length spokes from Danscomp would be about $20?
Ryobi and Rigid both have lithium 24V cordless drill packs, around 3-ish Ah, Milwaukee and DeWalt both have higher amp-output 28V lithium packs, available in 4-Ah. I know they are not long range, but if its for a kid?...
Generic 24V brushless controller for $25-ish? I believe each battery pack has its own LVC built in. Any glaring issue that would be likely to reveal itself?
(if I didn't mind going a little faster and spending $400 plus battery, Magic Pie has a 20-inch wheel with the controller built-into the hub). Random pic from the web:
